The guy had played next to 4 guards this year, 3 of whom probably shouldn't be playing. Let's see what happens when Pugh gets back full time. Maybe someone can comment on this but the Pitt LT blocking Vernon looked like he was doing the same things Flowers was doing but no calls. !

Also, did it look like the Steeler secondary got away with a whole lot of questionable plays well behind 5 yards beyond the LOS.

Last, check out Big Bens record at home & this was close to a must win for them. At least a non conference loss

This game was a carbon copy of Minn and GB: 1st half no show. I wish the O would make at least a cameo in these games.

during the week. And I think the Dallas win at Minnesota took air out of the Giants sails trying to win the East. Eli's pick pretty much put the Giants in catch up mode all game.

I still think they beat Dallas next week. The Giants need this game more than they do and they are due for a clunker. The Giants will beat them and I see them finishing with the #5 seed at 10-6 or 11-5.

Let's hope JPP isn't hurt too badly.
Matt, you're among the most rational and informed of posters here. I agree with your 1st and 3rd paras, but your 2nd para echoes a post you made earlier in the week, either to the effect that the Giants' OL is analogous to where the OL was in 2011 or that the Dallas OL was due for a fail, in addition to saying that Dallas was certain to falter. Hate to say this, but Cowpukes have been a model of consistency. It's clunker may have come against the Vikes and a League best d. Hope is not a viable strategy.

I was fearful we might but the game was worse than I feared.
Much of that was the officiating. Flowers already has a sign on his back in their mind:FLAG ME WHENEVER! and OBJ is the badboy in the battle with JNorman, and the sign on his back is: NEVER THROW THE FLAG TO HELP THIS GUY!
And Yes they missed opportunities and made mistakes where they may have ended up winning anyway, but I just can't get past the hometown calls and thinking what if (the sideline OPI on OBJ set in he trend).

Said the NYG would lose by 10 at minimum in Pittsburgh.

We can't win 10 like this.
I think the roof caves in though down the stretch. This all seemed like smoke and mirrors all year because of the OL's poor play. Now that we're stepping up in class, those chickens are coming home to roost. Gun to my head, my guess is we squeak by the Lions for our only win down the stretch and we pray shit lines up for us at 9-7 to get a WC.

How about you take the pulse of a bag of dicks.

Go stick a fork in an electrical outlet you fucking cocksucker. I'm sorry I don't share the same opinion as you regarding this team. But I know football. You don't know shit. Literally everything you think you know about this team is wrong that you post here. Come back at me when you get a fucking clue.

The disappearing act during the win streak was very enjoyable. How are those great moves the Eagles made panning out for you?

Many felt this was a 9-7 team yet i did not expect no significant progress from Flowers.

Has age caught up to the QB or are we on the doorstep of a real problem? He has to be better than this. I think there is more in the tank yet his age doesn't guarantee anything.

The O Line, LB's were abused, Eli of course.
The defense was okay, needed a stop after Giants made it
14-7, they let them march down the filed for another TD,
that was essentially ballgame. I hope they can get to
10 wins.

Why the mods let The_Boss troll his way around here is a great fucking mystery. He's the worst iteration of troll, talks a ton of shit when the team is down, and takes his shit on the road when they win. Call him out on it, and starts in with the personal attacks.

Winning today would have been awesome, it didn't happen, we're 8-4, stop crying like a little pussy.
Play calling again
cznmike : 12/5/2016 6:16 am : link
The Giants are next to last in time of possession this year to only SF... 14 run plays vs. 41 pass plays. Time of possession in favor of Steelers by almost 9 minutes. The defense is good and held its own again. No team can win with defense on the field more than not.

#7 in passing plays versus run plays this year- historically, if you stop the run and make Eli beat you; when he's on he's on, when not... 2 interception game again; panic throws instead of taking a hit; only 2 sacks.
If you look at offensive line stats, the Giants are consistent with yardage to the left and up the middle, instead once again, we try to force the run to the right.
Sick to death of 3rd and short and incomplete 20+ yard attempts.

Giants averaged 4.0 yards per carry against Steelers. 4x3 = 12 yards = 1st down.
Giants 14 run plays for 4.0 average/ Steelers 30 run plays for 3.9 average.

Couple of REAL debatable penalties- how come we don't get the Cowboy's refs? OBJ was right in calling them out.

Dallas can be beat again this year. Pressure on Dick and continue the run stopping like the first game by keying on Z. Giants won't burn up the field with runs, but run consistently up the gut and to the left instead of relying solely on Eli to beat them. In the 1st game we passed the ball 28 times and ran the ball 24 times and WON.

Can you imagine 'IF' Eli puts touch on the ball on the first INT and gets the easy touchdown? We then score 21 points total...

Can you imagine 'IF' on the fourth and short on the seven yard line, Tye doesn't drop the easy touchdown? Final score is now 28. Four points higher then Pittsburgh.

Can you imagine 'IF' on the Pitt TD scramble play halfway through the second quarter JJ pushes Brown out of the endzone before he has a chance to land in bounds? Would probably take four points off the board, making it 20 points for Pitt.

As shitty as we played, we actually, in a messed up, "if's and buts way, could have won this game. Sad thought process but it's oddly true.
How would that first INTS have been an easy TD? Donnell was already falling backward with the ball in the air and the DB was right behind him. G-d forbid he would actually make a catch in complete control of his body. If that got over Timmons head, there is an excellent chance it went incomplete and we would all be cursing Donnell right now.

Richburg and Pugh are in the better 3rd, maybe top 25% at their position. Flowers - man, I'd love to know what McAdoo and the OL Coaches think about him.

Keep in mind, the two players Giants were rumored to have coveted are starting and playing well for the Titans.
I still maintain he was never drafted with LT in mind. Nothing they said or did after the draft belies that. It wasn't until Beatty got hurt that he was moved over and the comments came out that they were going to move him there eventually.

not surprised at the result. The Giants OL can't handle a decent DL especially in the middle. Jerry and Richburg were routinely manhandled. Eli (though not great himself)said he was not able to get to his "2nd and third options"

* The Eli pick at 5-0 was a killer, but I still don't think they win if he hits the TD. The offense just can't sustain drives.
* The defense was valiant, but on the field WAAAAY too long.
* Eli Apple is the real deal. As is Vernon. What a difference since his wrist healed and he can use 2 hands. Loved the way he hammered Big Ben to the turf.
* Seems that Flowers is going to get a cheap penalty every week now. That Safety was bullshit. HARRISON was holding, had 2 fists full of Flowers shirt.
* Perhaps the 2 best WRs in the game played yesterday. One made some pretty plays and was a pro, the other acted like an immature jerk from the 3rd grade. Can you guess which was which? I'm tired of Beckham's shit. He had one legit gripe, the late hit. The rest is bullshit and has to stop. I was happy to see McAdoo pull him aside after the stupid chucking of the ball at the Steelers bench, which could have cost a 15 yd PF.
* does anyone else think that Jennings looks really slow? He's game, but it seemed like there were plays to be made if he were a step quicker. I think Perkins needs to be featured more.
* I think Hart looked good, and Newhouse looks better inside. He's stronger physically than Jerry, maybe he moves to RG when Pugh returns. Hart also seems to have become Beckham's baby sitter, pulling him away and calming him down from his stupid rants.

Well, the "Suck it up Buttercup" crowd can all sing Kumbaya together waiting for this shit ass offense to flower. Becaue, I don't think it's happening this year. We have better pieces this year with the same OL yet are far, FAR WORSE on offense. Not one game over 28 points through 12 games, EVEN against the winless Browns. We can't even win T.O.P. against a WINLESS TEAM. Maybe you are OK with that, but if you look at the largest change on offense, it's COACHING. Go ahead and sing Kumbaya. I find it disturbing, and it sure doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies moving forward in the last years of Eli's prime.

But we would still have the ball, and have a third down play.....that interception was huge.....would you rather have a 7-5 game with momentum, or the 0-11 game that we had, at the time?
Yesterday was a tough one - no doubt...
Drewcon40 : 12/5/2016 10:18 am : link
...but bigger picture (at least my point of view). I tried to look at the expectations of this team in the summer and then as the season approached. Obviously with injuries (to the entire league - not just G-Men) and the way a season progresses, the team goals and expectations adjust. Following 2015, I never thought we can fix the team in one off season.

You never throw away a team with 8 wins at November's end but we ran into a tough game. Can it be like 2007 (Viking - Eli skittish game) or 2011 (Redskins game) where it is just a hiccup? We will see. Maybe this is just a blip for the 2016 Championship DVD?

Personally, this season has surpassed my expectations, I am not giving up on this year but I think 2017 is going to be a good year for us. There are A LOT of positives. Even with how bad we looked. We have a December 11 game against Dallas that still has meaning. Is the division a bit of a reach? Sure but we have big games in December. I feel great about that. Sorry about my pom poms.

Yep. The defense will keep the Giants in games. They have an excellent shot at a WC, and a lot of teams in the hunt still have plenty of tough games remaining.

It's amazing to me how some fans react in lieu of the recent 07 and 11 runs. People forget those teams had some pretty bad losses down the home stretch. A lot worse than yesterday's loss.

I think Perkins ALSO looks slow. To me, not an explosive back - yes, has speed once he gets rolling, clearly has great vision in space - but the instant he gets the ball, I don't see that quickness that the great backs have. Bradshaw had it. Tiki had it. Jacobs even had it. Perkins first steps always lack explosion, IMO. Still - think he should be #1.

agree but the steelers knew how to attack this D, go after the LB's with screens and use the TE. Bell killed us all day along with green, Kennard lets green go deep behind him early in the game on a blitz play, exactly who did he think was picking him up?

Yep. Just about every D has a weakness, for the Giants it's LB.Pittsburgh took advantage of it.

I still thought the D had a solid game though. They were just on the field too long. The offense can't sustain anything.

He bit on the short route, and Green turned up field. It happens.

On the Collins play, it developed like a screen. Collins tried to jump it and make a play because the LBs couldn't do shit all game long vs the screen.

The defense played well enough to win overall but the LBs really got exposed. Missed tackles, couldn't get off blocks on screens, couldn't cover the middle of the field vs TEs.
We lost a winnable game.

Yes, Eli in a critical situation, the D on 3rd downs, Mc on not trying to even establish a running game and let the OL push forward(yes I know our OL sucks but the more we threw the more THaley knew we werent going to run), Jenkins for not undercutting AB at the e-z to get him o-o-b, the ST for allowing many long runbacks. IOW: A team cluster.
And, IMHO, the refs were a gift that kept on giving, Pitt, almost every favorable call.
N.O. and SD did not help us, Az did.
Will have to beat Detroit, and at least Wash if not Philly also for what may be a battle for a WC.
Lets hope JPP can play Sunday night, for starters.
Someone, please explain to moi,

what is a winnable game? Aren't they all?
They're averaging 13 PPG in 3 road losses.

At least all of the important people on the offense (McAdoo, Eli, Odell) recognize that they're the problem , not the defense. And the defense wasn't great, but it gave them a chance to win against a great offense on the road... that's really all you can ask for.

- The head coach really needs to examine his performance, since this offense is his baby.
- The QB sucked the life out of the team with that INT. It was the biggest play of the game. Eli was bad overall and they aren't talented enough as a team to overcome that.
- Ereck Flowers needs to be benched.
- The entire offensive line is under-performing, including Weston Richburg. I wonder if the issue is the o-line coach?
- I thought Spags should have been more aggressive in dialing up blitzes.
- Their inability to cover TEs is just a joke at this point. This along with their inability to cover RBs and their struggles against screen passes are ALL related to lack of LB talent.
- They actually did a good job of stopping Bell from running. More than half of his rushing yards came on their final 2 drives when the game was no longer in doubt.
- There's a reason why Larry Donnell and Leon Hall were inactive for so long. I'm not blaming them for everything obviously, but bad things happen when they're on the field. I still have no idea what Hall was doing on the Antonio Brown TD. Jenkins covered that as well as he possibly could.
- The cornerbacks played well. That was a great pick by Eli Apple.
Also add...

They offense had the ball inside Pittsburgh's 35 yard line SIX times and only scored 14 points.
The Giants have played terrible offensive football for at least
mikeinbloomfield : 12/5/2016 1:01 pm : link
a month, but it hasn't mattered because they were playing against teams not good enough to score against the Giants' defense. This game was winnable, but the Giants offense is just not good enough to make up for mistakes.

Here's what I think is going on: The Giants don't trust their O Line to pass protect (for probably good reason). Eli has avoided sacks so far, but only because the majority of his attempts are within 5 or 6 yards of the line of scrimmage. Teams have figured this out.

Look at the number of uncontested completions Eli had yesterday. One? Two? Its maddening. The run game isn't holding this offense back, it is the pass options Eli has because the offensive line is so bad. All a defense has to do is play two safeties back, play zone, and let their linebackers break up one 3rd down pass per drive. Giants punt.

where they were picked in the draft...Reese gambled and lost.

either that, or Flaherty and Solari just aren't as good as advertised.

I agree 100%.

Hold up. Are you two putting Pugh and Richburg in the swing and miss column for Reese? Maybe I'm misunderstanding.

Collins bit on the screen to the WR, and wanted to supply support. Ben faked it, then turned and went to Green who ran right past Collins......
