but I'm less optimistic about this team's chances to make postseason noise. The pass rush piece could be there, but I just don't see a credible 2nd receiver that can beat playoff defenses. We had 3 guys in 2011.
RE: Ereck Flowers is to LT what Ian Allen is to RT
Flowers makes me long for the days of Luke Petitgout
He's not improving much if any. He's actually pretty good when he moves his feet but that's vanishingly rare. Stand and reaching is just asking for whiffs and penalties.
The offense has been broken all year. It was broken last week against the worst defense in the league, it was broken today against a pretty mediocre Steelers defense and there's really no reason to think it won't be broken next week either.
Defense wasn't great but really, this loss is on the offense.
We are still up 2 games on the playoffs with 4 to go, and the next 2 are at home. Plus one of our games is against Philly who seems to have packed it in.
We control our own playoff destiny. We just need to get our offense on track
But do I miss Rueben Randell. Cruz just doesn't have it. Shep is a slot WR. We need a WR opposite OBJ, a TE, possibly another RB, and help all around the OLine.

Not an excuse but I think it's hard for him to improve when the entire line is a shit show and out LG has been a revolving door the last three or so games. I agree it's frustrating and my patience is waning also, but this is what it is for this year.
IF we are able to upgrade the OLine (significantly) and the TE position in this upcoming offseason, we will be contenders.
Flowers is horrific. Eli wants no part of taking a hit behind this OLine, and the running game sucks, too. Defense is good, but they can't do everything and do it every single week.
They don't play against each other. I hate when they bring that up. Aikman was really bad today and I usually think he's fair, but man that was a terribly called game.
The offensive line worries me less than the skill guys

Ben is a better QB than Eli. It's okay to accept it at this point.

Hard to say that when the Giants played a terrible game on offense too.

We miss his size. We have to many short receivers.
They played their hearts out and did their best to keep the offense in the game. But the offense, ugh. And yeah, Eli was a part of the problem. I'm a big Eli guy but I have to admit, he's looked off for a while.
Hasn't Victor Cruz been targeted 2 times in the last 3 games?
I'd rather have lost this game than one to a NFC opponent and it was highly unlikely we were going to run the table. Even if we can go 3-1 the rest of the way, this will be a successful season at 11-5 . At least that's how I'm trying to look at it.

I wonder if he's playing through an injury - which I've suspected about Richburg as well.
Cruz is JAG at this point sadly.
As per usual, I have the pulse of this team like no other
Said the NYG would lose by 10 at minimum in Pittsburgh.
We can't win 10 like this.
I think the roof caves in though down the stretch. This all seemed like smoke and mirrors all year because of the OL's poor play. Now that we're stepping up in class, those chickens are coming home to roost. Gun to my head, my guess is we squeak by the Lions for our only win down the stretch and we pray shit lines up for us at 9-7 to get a WC.

This is correct. This game was the one to lose, if we had to lose one. Of all 5 this was the least important, and likely the hardest one.
biggest problem is the OL. Our tackles can't handle speed rushers. Flowers looks like a slightly better version of James Brewer. RIchburg gets no push. He's frequently pushed back.
No running game, and constantly throwing against six and seven DBs puts pressure on Eli. This is part of the reason nobody but OBJ is ever open. But Eli has missed a lot of throws, and it looks like he has lost some arm strength.
We have no breakaway RB. Perkins is a "make you miss" RB, but won't run away from anyone.
We have no TE who can threaten the seam. Tye is a very good move the chains TE, but doesn't have the speed to get up the middle. Not sure about Adams.

There is no situation that Ruben Randle can fix.
I feel the same with Donnell. I felt uneasy the moment I saw him in the game, and then, boom.
during the week. And I think the Dallas win at Minnesota took air out of the Giants sails trying to win the East. Eli's pick pretty much put the Giants in catch up mode all game.
I still think they beat Dallas next week. The Giants need this game more than they do and they are due for a clunker. The Giants will beat them and I see them finishing with the #5 seed at 10-6 or 11-5.
It's the same performance we see in our wins so I'm not sure why there's so much shock or blame shift to the play calling.
Me too

What's your take on the offense? Pass Pro look ok to me today, Eli sucked...They can't get anyone open.

You obviously know zero about reading coverage qb guru

then on the most critical pass, it's to either Will Tye or Roger Lewis Jr.

lol...yeah that's why you're on the couch same as I am, and not in the field. Please enlighten us.

Gave up how many yards by not getting up field?
More yapping after every incompletion thrown his way.

Eli clearly does not trust his offensive line, and to some degree, the playcalling.
The Giants offense has absolutely no identity other than force feeding the ball to OBJ. McAdoo seems like he is in over his head.
I know you are who your record says you are, but the Giants need to be one of the worst 8-4 teams I have ever seen

We also desperately need a coverage LB.

Let's hope JPP isn't hurt too badly.
