i thought the non call on OBJ where his arm was held in endzone was a HORRIBLE no call. we ended up turning it over on downs...but that one was REALLY bad. they call that we are on the one 1st n goal and could have changed it
1. blatant holding of 54 on several plays...including on a 30 yarder to Green
2. the hold on Flowers for 2 was as ticky tack as it gets, and my displeasure for Flowers is pretty damn high
3. 13 mugged on essentially every play
4. Tye obliterated and flag randomly picked up
5. Eli driven into the ground after the whistle...whatever
in any event, these all suck. but the offense is a trainwreck.
Pitt is the most fortunate franchise in pro sports. To their credit the Steelers know how to win and take advantage but they are so fucking lucky it's sickening to me. Year after year.
Only the Steelers would need a bad buffalo bills team to win a final game against a superior opponent and actually get that win. That's the Steelers.
But the Giant offensive game plan, IF YOU WANT TO CALL IT THAT, was even worse. Last week not a single pass to Sheppard. This week not a single pass to Cruz. They didn't even try. It's like they go into a game and say this is the guy we are going to throw it to come hell or high water. I'm not so sure McAdoo was the guy Coro this job.

Look the game is a game of momentum too. That PI against Odell was a terrible call. It probably should have been a no call, but I don't know how you say it was Odell where you literally have to move the guy from you to continue your route. He cleared the CB that was illegally holding him. At worst it's a no call. Killed Momentum.
Giants get out of there own endzone and we get flagged for a hold which was another brutal call. Flipped momentum.
I couldn't count the times Pittsburgh was holding on offense and Ben completes a pass when he would have been sacked if Vernon wasn't getting mugged. Could have changed momentum.
Couldn't get any momentum our way because officiating was brutal. Sometimes that helps spark teams.
but how can you be allowed to plead your case enough for them to pick up the flag...that means next week, we should obliterate any receiver as long as it's chest high
but to flex like a buffoon and taunt the other side after you just got away with some bullshit? What do you think Mitchell is going to do if put in the same situation again? But yeah "player safety," etc.
impact games, I don't know how they overlook the obvious changes bad calls have. Prior to the safety, they flag Odell for PI (think about this for a minute -Odell committed more PI penalties yesterday than he drew despite being constantly mugged!). Then the next play, we convert a 3rd down past the 20 and instead of having a new set of downs to drive, we are down 2 points - on an absolutely brutal call. Papa and Banks spent several minutes trying to figure out both calls.
Then, when we are down 14-0 and driving for a potential TD, they miss a blatant grab of Beckham's arm that would've put the ball at the 1 and then on 4th and 1, they allowed the receiver to be mugged.
For Eli to be demonstrative several times looking for flags shows just how poor things were. There were several plays where our receivers were grabbed and interfered with that caused incompletions.
I have no idea if we'd have won that game, but to spot the Steelers and opening score and give them the ball back, and then prevent a TD with bad calls later on, that's a 9 point swing at a minimum. It has a direct impact on the game.
Worse yet, Flowers and Beckham have reputations leading to calls slanted against them which is increasingly an issue. Flowers draws at least one flag a game that is unwarranted.
The interference on OBJ that is not called is getting brutal to watch.
But tell me I am not alone that we all didn't see Flowers hold on each series? He really looks bad on so many drop-backs. Giants need to really think through what the Long term approach is going to be with him.
Back to the officiating...the blatant holds on Vernon I thought were egregious too. I counted around 4 that were obvious.
"Looks like it will be a Giants first down here. Wait - the call is for OFFENSIVE PI. I can't believe it". And then you hear Banks in the background moan "What?"
this the same crew that threw a flag on richbirg for flexing and threw nothing on mitchdll for the exact same thing
This is a great point on context. I was really annoyed that Pitt was taking shots at Odell, Tye, even Eli and not one OL was doing anything to get involved, particularly Richburg (Jerry did some talking).
Then I realized after the game that this is the crew that chucked Richburg for some BS against the Redskins.
They hit the Giants WRs early every other play and people (Aikman) wonder why the Giants couldn't move the ball offensively.

Heaven forbid someone tries to be objective.
That wasn't a hold.
The game wasn't competitive because of the shitty officiating. I really don't bitch about officiating ever, but today was so fucking bad.

We had 2 TDs today.

Whomever was the person that said "you could call holding on every play in the NFL" was clearly using Flowers as his example...
It is bizarre.

Not saying OBJ should have been called at all, but the shirt pull was obvious and in desperation...
