So, why does the offense suck?

rocco8112 : 12/4/2016 7:37 pm
Because boy does it stink and I am not going to get fooled again thinking this is the week it all comes together.

Can anything be done to fix it this year? Shame, since the D comes to play every week.

What is the major problem?

No OL. No running game. No TE. No #2 WR...
GloryDayz : 12/4/2016 7:39 pm : link
And Eli having a bad year.

Oh and Jennings sucks.
I am confused at why they didn't stick with the run more.

Horrendous O line
BlueHurricane : 12/4/2016 7:39 pm : link
No TE, No FB, and a skittish QB.

Add to that a guy who took the O cord job who was horrific in Tampa Bay. Not exactly a recipe for success.

Wish the reporters had some fucking balls and grilled the HC on the pathetic offense he currently has
Shit OL

Holding back entire team. Sadly, this is precisely what I said in the spring.

Probably true. I look at other teams who have 2 impact TEs. And the Giants have a puffed up fullback starting at TE.

Thats too... but how do you design plays when there's something to screw up every solution you can think of.

At this point, Perkins should get the majority of the carries...
GloryDayz : 12/4/2016 7:49 pm : link
Eli has become so accustomed to feeling pressure and ducking, there's no additional threat for injury from a drop off in protection from the RB
The only way to fix the offense is better players.
joe48 : 12/4/2016 7:56 pm : link
We need better OL, TE, big WR, and RB, That only happens maybe next year.
If you have been waiting for the offense
joeinpa : 12/4/2016 7:57 pm : link
To get better it is difficult to explain why it sucks. I have marveled
At fans who watch the same games I do and continue the offense has untapped potential.

The Browns and Steelers have lousy defenses, yet dominated the Giants.

There is a good likely hood this team does not win 2 of its last 5 to qualify for the playoffs

This is not a Super Bowl team. So many mistakes, no balance. I love many of the players added this season, but we have been saying they are a year away. The draft class and the FA pick ups are proving to be very good. We need another offseason. Add a FB, TE, RG, another pass rusher and I think this team takes another step.
I think the offense has
gidiefor : Mod : 12/4/2016 8:04 pm : link
great, good, and adequate skill players at WR, adequate at TE, adequate at RB -- the problem is the Offensive line - and for the kind of game they play they need a real FB.

When ELi has to dive to the ground instead of take a sack -- and gets hurried a lot -- it's a real problem
Jennings up the middle for 1 yard, a lousy pass on 2nd down,
GeorgeFox : 12/4/2016 8:07 pm : link
and now it is 3rd and 9 and Eli throws a either a 7 yrd pass or a 70 yard pass that is not caught.

...and we are not calling plays that help the O-line, that help Eli...or that help us to move the chains. When you need 8 yards and most of the routes are over 20 yards down field then there is one guy running well short of the sticks... it is a huge problem.
it's not a horrendous OLine
bc4life : 12/4/2016 8:10 pm : link
Pugh being out hurts and Flowers amy in the wrong spot. And, they based the season's plan on having a HB/FB who is a punishing blocker - but he's on IR.

But, yeah - they are not an effective running team
Crappy OL w
LauderdaleMatty : 12/4/2016 8:11 pm : link
Little depth

But the biggest issue is the HC/OC.

I was thinking of starting a specific thread. What makes this guy so great. He was hired w no OC experience. Installed a bit of he WCO. Now maybe that's supposed to be impressive but it's not like this is 30 years ago. How the fuck is it impressive to put in 3 step drops and a short passing game?

They fired TC and now it's his whole ball of wax and I d seen nothing to make me believe he is all that innovative or great.

On top of it he has most likely much less say than TC did in player personnel and he certainly has nothing to do with the defense. What does he do? His play calling is nothing to brag about. Next year will be interesting because this years offense is horrid and I the D while very good is not nearly good enough to carry the team like Denver did last year.

I really didn't get his hire as HC and to be honest just don't see what's is so special about this guy

Manning said it himself, not having a fullback is keeping them from getting in other formations.
it all starts up front
Mark from Jersey : 12/4/2016 8:20 pm : link
the OL is the worst I can remember. Run game suffers, passing game suffers, Eli suffers.

We desperately need OL & TE help next year.
Using the same formation over and over is off
JesseS : 12/4/2016 8:20 pm : link
Either it's because of coaching - or it is their best personnel and our GM didn't build the team correctly. Don't all teams want their best personnel on the field at all times but still use different formations?
Eli doesn't trust his O-line, and rightfully
SHO'NUFF : 12/4/2016 8:21 pm : link
doesn't want to get destroyed, so he plays skittish like and makes bad passes.
I mean
rocco8112 : 12/4/2016 8:27 pm : link
I do not think there is untapped potential for a powerhouse, but I do think there should be some level of competence.

If this was a league average offense this team would really be making some noise. Funny thing is, said the same thing last year but about the defense.

Until Pugh went down, our line was better
CT Charlie : 12/4/2016 8:35 pm : link
than it was last year, and the other players on offense are the same or better, too.

The only difference must be preparation, in-game play calling, and adjustments, so I think the problem lies with the man calling the plays. McAdoo is just too busy to do his best.

There are fullbacks out there maybe not great ones but why not add one of its so integral?
To me
rocco8112 : 12/4/2016 8:48 pm : link
the Giants have below average NFL talent at RB and TE.

Perkins looked good on some plays and Jennings did score. But Jennings is so limited he never breaks tackles. Tye is giving effort and has minimal mental fuckups unlike Donnell, but Tye is not good. These players scare no one. This allows teams to take away Beckham deep and that is all she wrote.

On the Steeler side, their TE lit it up. Bell had a huge fumble but is so dynamic and there guys were coming down with contested catches while Beckham and Tye couldn't today.

I'm wondering how Will Johnson would have helped this team this year?
Simms11 : 12/4/2016 8:51 pm : link
I'm also wondering if they considered him as more of a FB or a TE?

I also think the Oline is a player away from being pretty good. Flowers, IMO, is playing out of position and should either be at RT or RG. Hart could also play either position and so the right side should be fairly solid. Center is good, not great, but I think better Guards could help him as well. Pugh is a pretty good Guard too. That leaves LT To fill and they could have done that this year with one of the Free Agents they brought in. It's got to be a prime focus next year.

TEs are average at best. Eli needs a go to TE. Somebody that can get open down the seam or someone he can get the ball to quickly on 3rd down. It would be a huge addition to the offense. Can Adams be that guy? Can Johnson be that guy? Either way we need to be better at the position.

RBs will look different next year IMO. Perkins is a keeper, in my book. I can see Vereen back, as well. Jennings has to go. He's a steady performer and good leader, but he's not a guy that can carry the load for this team and is much slower. We need to get ourselves someone that can move the sticks or a home run hitter perhaps.

WR needs help at the #2....Shepard is a very good slot receiver, but is not a #2 and neither is Cruz. Cruz was a nice story, but I think he's done here. We need a guy with some height and ability to get open.

Lastly, as much as I like Eli, he's played poorly at times this year. He's missing open receivers and not making the passes he used to make. Is he done? I'm not so sure, but we need to improve the cast immensely around him to give him at least an opportunity to succeed.

Should help.
Oh Duh its the Offensive line thank you Captain Obvious ...
Bluesbreaker : 12/4/2016 9:06 pm : link
Playmakers ??? Really who ?
OBJ is One ok ...............................
Cruz ?? Not even Close even his good plays are highly
contested or broken plays and are far and few between.
Shepard well he has done Ok as a Rookie but he strikes fear
in No One ..... Off the bench ? Harris ? You expect him to
be top gunner on punts and Kickoffs and the returner and
be effective as a WR .. How about TE Tye he's good for a catchor two but he is not a seam route runner I like that he does give the effort
to get the most out of his time but he is average at best .
Larry D nothing good happens when he is near a football .
Adams who knows I like his size but he is still a raw Rook
Jennings he has zero wiggle he is getting up in age and he
needs a big opening to get to the 2nd level and when he does he has no elusiveness to break a big play .
Perkins has the potential but thats contingent on the
offensive line .
Eli has not looked great this year he has his moments but
he plays not to get his and rarely can he step into
throws . He is not built for the short passing game
he does not have the touch that a Brady or a Big Ben has
Its the weakest part of his game yet he is forced into
it because he either doesn't have the time or there
is a dirty pocket to throw from .
We have the worst tight ends in the league
Les in TO : 12/4/2016 9:08 pm : link
Below average running play and no consistent receiving threat to take the pressure off beckham. Inconsistent line play. Add in a QB who cannot pull the ball down and run when his receivers are covered even though there are running lanes. And that is why we are an average offense.
It's not just the players
trueblueinpw : 12/4/2016 9:28 pm : link
We played the league's worst defense last week and the offense sucked there too. We don't have a great offensive line, check, but who in this league does have a great offensive line? No TE, check, out TEs are pretty weak sauce indeed. But no team in the league is stocked at every position, that's the nature of the NFL.

So yes, there are holes at important spots on the offense, but some of what's wrong is that our game plans aren't good. Look at what the Steelers DB was saying about the Giants WRs tipping plays. Listen to what Banks and Cross and Papa have been saying since week 4 about the same 11 personnel sets for every play of the game. Why has Cruz played outside all season and never in the slot? Why no bunch formations from the slot with rubs like NE and most other teams in the league run constantly? Why no heavy sets with an additional Olineman to run or Perk and Jennings in the same backfield?

The league has figured out McAdoo and he has yet to adjust. It's not just the players.

doesn't know wtf a real offensive lineman is.

That is why this offense sucks and why he must be fired.
