but the thing that bothers me which has been much more evident this season versus last season is that he tries so hard to make plays that he constantly gives up yards on forward progress because he goes backwards so often to try to break one and this had cost him yards and first downs all year and it's got to stop!

The one play he gave up yards on is blown dead 9 out of 10 times. He was pushed back 5 yards, not sure how they still let the play go on.
Stop worrying about the PI calls, try to fight through contact and make a play.
I think he's frustrated and it's effecting him. Yes the refs missed a few calls, but they missed them because the contact wasn't so blatant (there is PI & holding almost on every play), and if he keeps his concentration he's athletic enough & and has the hands to make the catch. He needs to learn to play through it and the calls will follow.
the refs seems to think Beckham's athletic enough to play through contact and allow Ds to get away with being far more physical than normal. They basically expect Beckham to catch the ball with 1 hand since they seem OK with allowing the D to grab and hold his other hand routinely.
relax...and apparently it's ok to rape OBJ on nearly every pass play with no flag.
The weird thing is why did the cameras go to OBJ on the Giants sidelines after a Steelers TD?
Right or wrong, his doing or not, he's getting the wrong kind of attention.
Ironically, all the things people said about Big Ben not being able to handle the media in NY ( in Eli vs Ben discussions) seems to be having the same effect on OBJ

And when he breaks those for big gains your upset also. Holy fuck now we're getting annoyed when players try and make plays.
I knew someone would be the idiot and complain about that.
These kids these days just aren't the same types of players we all grew up watching. It's a different attitude then yeas gone by, Starhan even said it before the game. Odell and all these youngsters are ultra competitive in a positive way. They feed off each other almost. Strahan showed before the game Odell was at Browns house the night before making selfie videos and shit. its weird to me but it's the world we live in now. Has nothing to do with not being ultra competitive.

Because the media's trying to create a story that isn't there. Odell and Brown are good friends and train together in the offseason, who gives a fuck about the rest?
Beckham's put up better numbers in his first X games of his career than every other WR in history. How is he unable to handle the pressure of NY?
My son where's a #13 jersey.. I was yelling so loud my voice is gone.. Just didn't sit right with after the Brown TD.. it's like he's getting too sucked up into the hype. I didn't word it right, I do know his main objective is to win and he does play his heart out.
These guys play a sport where one hit can be the end of it all.. they try to have a little fun. OBJ goes against the elite WR's in this league and he feels he needs to outperform them. His reaction, which I knew half this board would mis-interpret, was not "awesome, I'm happy for my friend"... it was "wow.. what a play. I need to do better"
How anyone could ever question what this guy is about at this point blows my mind. He has borderline meltdowns when we lose football games. When we won 6 straight, he was a saint. ALL he cares about is winning.
posters refer to players who played 3 decades ago when comparing the game to then and now.
the game of football is completely different then those years, there is no comparison of the two, those days are over. get over it.
The world is completely different thanks to cell phones, the internet and social media. It's apples to oranges. It's not like Beckham is throwing plays or wants to lose.
the losing yardage at a most inopportune time, that was a huge play at the time. He has to be more "game aware " and do what's best for the situation.
He was being 'game aware' and that's why he was trying to make a big play there. It's also a play that's blown dead and marked with forward progress 9 out of 10 times.
You have two threads that I see just at a glance...
My son where's a #13 jersey.. I was yelling so loud my voice is gone.. Just didn't sit right with after the Brown TD.. it's like he's getting too sucked up into the hype. I didn't word it right, I do know his main objective is to win and he does play his heart out.
Is friends with Brown, hangs out with him the night before the game, trade's jerseys with him, etc. not one of those things would make me less of him for a second. The whole smiling after the TD thing didn't sit well with me. I can tell you nobody in my living room was smiling. He also complains a lot to the refs and you can tell they hate his guts. The back judge in the endzone was talking back to him, which you rarely, if ever, see in the NFL.

I think that there's a camera on OBJ pretty much all the time. A producer in the truck noticed him smiling and hit that feed. It's not like Brown scored and then someone said, "I wonder how Odell's reacting."
sorry i like guys like Mark Bavaro

that didn't give a flyin' f' about media coverage
It would be better if you realized that you can like players that aren't clones of one another. Bavaro's my favorite TE of alltime and have no fucking clue how that impacts how I view Beckham.

Maybe a DB on the Giants sidelines can applaud when OBJ gets defended well. After all, it was worth a smile from OBJ when Brown beat the Giants defense.

Handling the media has nothing to do with his play on the field. He can be great on the field, but at the same time do a bad job handling the media.
Obviously I'm in no position to know first hand, but from everything you see & hear, best way to deal with the media is talk yet say nothing, and not give them anything to write about besides your play. Since the Panthers game & the Norman thing, OBJ has given them plenty, from temper tantrums, to crying on the sidelines, the kicking net thing, constantly complaining to the refs. He's often right about being held or interfered with, but I think he can go about it a different way. I dont think it helps him get the calls, if he's flailing his arms at the refs a few times a game.
where OBJ and Antonio Brown were hanging out together the previous night and then had a long conversation pregame.
A player can be happy for their friends when they make an amazing play even if they are playing against them. To argue otherwise is to think like a fan and not like many of these players, who are happy for their friends on other teams.
Seriously, some of you jackholes are incapable of actually understanding a situation beyond your own little myopic world and views. Sad, really.

The most recent example was some idiot posting about OO exchanging jerseys with a former UCLA teammate after the game, questioning his competitive drive.
He plays to win because success guarantees him more "me" time, we just happen to be the beneficiaries of that at the moment.
He's young, maybe some off season training with Jerry Rice might teach him how to act. Christ, Randy Moss could give him behavior lessons. Let's hope he grows up soon, it'd be nice to say we had the greatest WR of all time on the Giants.

As giant#1 pointed out the media is trying to create a story, but OBJ is giving them the material.
I have absolutely no problem with OBJ smiling or being happy for his friend. But my point is, he's making himself a target... thats all
aren't arguably the best WRs of all time, so, there's that.
Moss was used to emphasize a point.
Rice had the best work ethic of any athlete I've ever heard of, when did you ever see Jerry Rice letting a bad call distract him from playing his best on every down?
Please try to pay attention, otherwise, next year in my own revisionist history I will have you labeled as lacking reading comprehension.

In terms of cutting back and losing yards. He's trying to make plays down big at the end of the game. It's not something he routinely does.
