NFL refs are ruining the game.

yatqb : 12/4/2016 8:19 pm
I don't think that there's an conscious bias from most if not all of them. But calls have become so subjective that games are routinely adversely affected by the refs.

We got our asses handed to us today, and that's not debatable imo. Nonetheless, the refs made a ton of calls and non-calls that influenced results dramatically.

And this is just one game; it seems to me that this happens in more games than not. Weirdly enough, reffing in college seems to me far more competent and neutral than in the NFL. Hard to understand why the NFL would tolerate this incompetence, but this is the same league that covered up the concussion issue, so why would they fuck with the golden goose. Unless fans like us begin to get sicker and sicker of this and stop attending and watching nothing will change, which may be happening although gradually. But I'm pessimistic that we'll see changes any time soon.
From what I've heard

the NFL is planning to add one more official next season.
So, we can look for even more bad calls. :)
The game has become unwatchable.

IMO, it's the #1 reason for the declining ratings. Personally, I couldn't care less about CK kneeling during the anthem, but the hypocrisy of the NFL when it comes to concussions and then watching them pick up that flag on the Tye hit certainly turns me off.

Though it wasn't a major factor in todays game, the long delays that we've seen throughout the year as refs 'discuss' a flag are the worst. It's not like those discussions are even leading to correct calls.
I hear what you are saying
blueblood'11 : 12/4/2016 8:23 pm : link
But the bottom line is this offense is so ill conceived It's ridiculous.

Same here and today for the first time I walked away in the second half to take a shower. A few years back i would have been glued to every second. I just can't emotionally invest in something that is so poorly officiated and poorly played. I miss my old NFL
It's really frustrating at this point...

Flowers gets called for the hold that leads to the safety, which it most likely was a hold, I didn't get a good look from where I was seated. But on the following drive by the steelers, on the big play to green for like 40 yards, I could see plain as day #78 holding the shit out of Vernon giving ben all day to make the play to green. I mean, if you're going to call an arguable hold for a safety then you have to call that one on the following drive.

I also hated that they picked up the flag on the personal foul on Tye late in the fourth after the DB argued his case. It just came off as unorganized/unprofessional. There really is no rhyme or reason to their process. Maddening.
There are bad calls on both sides

I'm not so sure it's the refs....it is also the rules. the game is so complicated now...they simply can't see everything.

Will this kid EVER get himself un-fucked from the Refs??

Does the Giants front office send in tapes of how he is treated by the refs? If he was a choir boy in his 1st year MAYBE he would receive (a bit of) superstar treatment but not now!!
Refs have a job to do WITHOUT BIAS!!! (but we see WEEK IN & WEEK OUT THAT NOT THE CASE!!) You can't tell me if ODB received even half the PI Calls he's due it wouldn't have an impact on our games. Especially todays game!

I'm pretty close to being done with this game as it currentlt stands and it's 90% due to the officiating. I was nevera big college ball fan but MAN am I now!!

F the Refs & Well pretty much same for the NFL!!!

a league of Tom Donahues?
That aside, you'd think that in the name of "player safety", they'd have left that flag on the field, or at least league wide be consistent with what is/ isn't a vulnerable player.
First Blandino has to go, then hire FT refs, standardise calls like a catch, and let plays play out and not blow whistles so quickly.
Refs are terrible, I blame Blandino
trueblueinpw : 12/4/2016 8:59 pm : link
Always write on the refs suck threads that the problem starts at the top. Goddell put Blandino in charge of refs knowing full well that Dean has never reffed a football game at any level. Blandino doesn't understand the game and he doesn't understand the job. To boot, Blandino is professionally incompetant, a few weeks ago he was Tweeting during a game still in progress that one of his officials blew a call. What do you suppose that does to his officials? Dude is fucking moron, probably makes millions too. What a fucked world.

Everytime you see anyone score or make a big play defense
or offense the first thing they do is look for a flag .
Fuck the Steelers and there cheap shot on Tye the Ref had
the nerve to pick up the flag . OBJ complained and they
already had there minds made up that he was not going

GeorgeAdams33 : 12/4/2016 9:46 pm : link
.....and even that is becoming tedious. I can't take much more. The refs have been horrible for many many years and it's all just getting worse. When I can't enjoy the game it's not worth watching. It used to be so much fun to watch, but when you cannot celebrate a good play spontaneously because you have to wait and contain yourself until you're sure there's no flag on the play the game has lost it's luster. Might as well just record the games now and only watch them afterwards if we win. I just can't take watching the refs penalize the team into submission where it just continually knocks the air out of them and deflates their hopes of having a fairly called game come down to the best team winning. Fuck Goodelle.

Let's blame the refs. They're the problem.

What a load of shit.

Every game you can dissect the missed calls by a ref. Cry about a similar play that wasnt callled. Cry about missed calls on the other side. You can cry that river about any NFL game. You can do the same in any NBA game. It just makes you sound like a chump.

Refs aren't the problem. It's a tough game to call. They miss some calls? It doesn't mean they're the reason for your problem with the game.

Refs aren't the problem? The Steelers OL held with impunity today and escaped pretty much scot free. If they had to play on level ground, the DL would have eaten Roethlisberger alive.

Don't let your anti-Beckham bias blind you as it usually does.

the only bias I have ever detected is in favor of the Cowboys. But that is probably unintentional bias. In other words, everyone associated with the NFL knows the Cowboys are the NFL's biggest draw so calls tend to go in their favor when they are a good team.

Good comeback - given what you're capable of I'm surprise you didn't throw in a 'your mama' joke.

You spent hours typing in long winded replies about how Beckham deserved the penalties he was getting back when he was all over the news, and giving the refs a pass. You talked about how he could have mortally wounded Josh Norman.

Now I'll give you a chance to man up and apologize, or I'll do some digging and make you look like the fucking idiot.
And hey - the only one on this thread that misinterpreted
jcn56 : 12/5/2016 1:00 am : link

That was lost on you, though not surprising.
Yes...."hours"
KWALL2 : 12/5/2016 1:32 am : link
That's what I spent on my replies on the subject.

Like many, I didn't agree with his reaction to what happened that day with Norman (or with the Billls when he punched the guy in the head). That's an anti-Beckham take, right?

Norman is right. Beckham is a little bitch.

I have never seen a bigger embarrassment during a game. He lined up the guy and launched himself into the guys head on a couple of plays. Just cheap shots. He punched him in the head probably 10+ times. Put his hand under his mask and into his mouth.

Giants should have pulled him.

Btw, it's a fucking joke if you think he cares more. That's ridiculous. He acted like a bitch because he dropped a sure td.

Beckham is one of the biggest assholes in the NFL. He will have a huge target on his chest. Nobody should respect the guy.
That's what you have?
KWALL2 : 12/5/2016 9:24 am : link
What he did in that game (and the Buffalo game) was inexcusable. They should have immediately benched him. There's no defense for it.

This sure as hell doesn't make me anti-Beckham.
Are they any..
FatMan in Charlotte : 12/5/2016 9:28 am : link
examples of players getting benched for aggressive plays? Was Joey Porter ever benched? Brian Dawkins? Burfict? Norman?

What about showboating WR's like TO? Benched for stomping on the Star?

I'm sure there is some sort of precedent here that shows how not benching Beckham goes against every coaching fiber in the world?

I'd probably ask if Cutler was ever benched for not caring, but that might strike a nerve and is off topic anyway...

I picked the best one - you did a LOT of typing those few days. I'm not kidding when I said hours.

Someone picked at a nerve again when the refs were brought up - incidentally, with the disclaimer that it doesn't excuse the loss in any way, which was well deserved. The refs fucked us multiple times - Eli complained about it, which he never does, and the radio broadcast crew did as well.

But hey, if you've got a guy you think is a fucking asshole who deserves no respect, then you're not going to think the refs fucked him are you?
An "aggressive play"?
KWALL2 : 12/5/2016 9:38 am : link
That's all it was?

Jcn. You don't agree with my take on what he did!? Great but your full of shit if your point is I'm carrying some problem for the guy since that time. You're also full of shit if you wouldn't have a problem if a guy with a.different uniform did the same thing.
OK..
FatMan in Charlotte : 12/5/2016 9:43 am : link
I'm sure there are numerous examples of players getting benched during a game where they have a dirty play (if aggressive is a word you disagree with).

You can probably name several immediately....
What I can't come up with
KWALL2 : 12/5/2016 9:55 am : link
Is ever seeing another player take that kind of cheap shot. Benched? He should have instantly been thrown out of the game for it with a suspension added to it.

You don't ageee with that? Fine. I don't care.

But thinking that was a major problem does not mean I have an anti-Beckham anything. And it sure doesn't have anything to do with thinking fans crying about refs is the type of thing losers cry about.

FatMan in Charlotte : 12/5/2016 9:59 am : link
Hell, a few weeks later, a Steelers OL did the same exact thing to a Bronco defender(and was flagged and not thrown out or benched)

And in the playoffs, the Benglas took cheap shots which ultimately cost them the game.

That's really the critical point.

When someone pops in to say that the offense did this or we missed those plays or whatever, they simply do not get the thread topic. Their posts are completely irrelevant and should be dismissed out of hand.

People suck at multi-tasking. You can acknowledge that the main reason we lost was our play, acknowledge that the refs did not cost us the game (although IMO that's a vapid statement and unproveable hot air because no one knows what call may or may not be so crucial that it meaningfully impacts any game), while still noting the poor job and potentially biased performance of officials.

It's no different than winning a game and acknowledging that we won while still noting that a given player did not perform well.

Late in the first quarter of their last meeting with the Steelers, in Pittsburgh on Dec. 20, safety David Bruton was bulldozed by a late helmet-to-helmet hit from Steelers center Cody Wallace.

“That’s just what they do,” Bruton said afterward. “They’re dirty, and he left his feet trying to take me out. So, I just know if we have to play them again, it’s not going to go well. We’re definitely going to make sure that he’s going to feel it.”

The hit cost Wallace a 15-yard penalty and a $23,152 fine, a punishment the Broncos say failed to match the crime.

I would have contacted league officials that this really
is not why we play the game yet I won't call it a
conspiracy but the Refs from the get go were going to make
a point about OBJ and the Flags came early . The steelers
knew from the get go that they could get away with anything
and this crew was making a statement to the Giants team
because of the debacle with Norman and Odell 'The very
same crew that should have made a statement on the very
first play when Norman slammed Odell and they turned a cheek.
Prior to that scumbag Jeff Fischer had a bounty on OBJ
head with numerous attempts to injure him yet these
suck hole Refs did nothing and yes they are ruining
the game . They have gone from bad to worse and are
impacting wins and losses .
