Say what you want about his offense being too complex, but at least when it was clicking it was unstoppable.
I always thought he got a bad rap with fans, especially for a coordinator that oversaw one of the best offenses in the league on a consistent basis.
This isn't a bash Mcadoo thread, Just thinking lately that maybe Gilbride shouldn't have been driven out of town.

totally disagree, the issue is the O-line it has been all year. No run game, poor TE play, poor pass protection has Eli chucking and ducking at times, give him some support and he can still carve teams up, he just has very little besides Beckham.
There are only so many resources and changes you can make to an NFL team in an offseason. This past one was to fix a historically bad defense, and that happened. The Giants hoped that the offense would pick up with some of the production we saw in the first 2 years with McAdoo, and that hasn't happened. And why is that? Well, the past few years, with a bad defense, they had to score just to stay in games and they were forced to open up the offense.
As a coach, McAdoo's job is to win games, it doesn't matter how, just win. Early in the season we saw a few things. The defense was better than we thought. And the offensive line was worse than we thought. They came into the preseason with 2 Fullbacks on the roster and lost them both to injury. They came in with 3 TEs, and 2 of them aren't good blockers and 1 is a rookie. When you look at the offensive line, they aren't good enough to sustain blocks a long time without Eli getting pressure or someone getting a holding penalty, or in the case of Flowers, both.
So McAdoo stripped it all down, they are running the most simplistic offense in the NFL, only a handful of routes and pretty much a variation on a shotgun draw. That's it. And if it's bad competition or whatever, they are 8-4. They are stepping up in weight class now and they will need to do more. They fell on their face yesterday in Pittsburgh.
I had mentioned before the season that I thought this was an 8-8 team, but with a few breaks could be 9-7 or 10-6 and be in the Wild Card hunt and have a punchers chance if they make the playoffs. Next year they will be able to address the offense in the off-season and I think they will be a Super Bowl threat for a couple more years before Eli hangs them up. This is a flawed team that is playing at the top end of what they are capable of. I still think they beat Dallas on Sunday and will find a way to win at least 1 more game and get to 10-6 and make the playoffs. Everything else is gravy and next year get in re-enforcements on the OL and at TE and RB.
- QB and receivers are not on the same page
Who knows when we'll recover.
Who knows when we'll recover.
Yeah, but they drafted Wilson and Randle and added a whole three linemen over the next three years.
Who knows when we'll recover.
Probably never. I'm not sure I'll ever watch again. All hope is lost.

But the fact KG REPEATEDLY warned the Giants front office that the OLine was going to sh#t, to no avail, and then eventually we kick him and TC out the door, Gettleman.....
Seems like all the "football guys" were shown the door and bunch of people who have no idea what they're doing are still here. Say what you will about TC/KG, their scheme is so much better than the one we're using now, it's not even debatable.

With the large drop off in offensive production from last year to this year, you also have to wonder exactly how much was McAdoo's offense last year, and how much was still Coughlin's offense infused? I mean, it's all of the same personnel... So what's changed?
Coughlin's offense was always predicated on the deep ball, something we did much better last year.
RE: FB. Remember - McAdoo didn't want another FB. There are/were FBs sitting on their ass that could help us. McAdoo didn't want one. He should look at his butt buddy McCarthy and see how he's used Kuhn and now Ripkowski. Does BM even have an understanding of his own scheme?
I admit, I've never been a fan of McAdoo - he has a serious R@y H@ndley vibe.
Subpar LT play. Subpar C play. Subpar G play. Subpar RB play. Subpar TE play. Subpar #2 and slot WR play.
That's 7 out of the 11 positions on the offensive side of the ball where we are regularly getting subpar play. And the other OL positions are servicable at best. It's Eli and Beckham, a little Shepard, and that's it.
McAdoo hinted in his presser yesterday that we are that we are at this point. I don't think he's doing them any favors with running nearly every play out of the same formation but it doesn't change the fact that this is the offensive version of 2015's defense.
Many positions need an overhaul. Flowers must be moved to RT. We have to hope Richburg is playing hurt but it makes no sense how bad he has been. And Pugh needs to stay healthy.
We need to find a legit LT, G, TE, RB, and #2 WR to move Shepard into the slot. These are starting positions. Not depth that we need. Another busy offseason for Reese. In the meantime, let's just hope the D is good enough to get 2 more wins to get us in the playoffs. I think they are.
We needed an OC ready to take a next creative step within the Green Bay BM tree and further away from TC.
The one major change from last year is the elevation of Sullivan - what I believe is subtraction by addition.
BM however ultimately takes responsibility for this.
I do not like him, moving forward. Didn't want him as OC, didn't want him as HC. Even less impressed now than I was then. I see him as a Mike Mularkey-type - gets a brief taste of being a Head Coach and eventually goes back to being a position coach.
I'd be surprised if anyone was even excited about hiring him as an OC after what he's put on tape.
We also caught a bad break when Joe Philbin turned us down, although we should've offered him the OC job instead of the OLine Coach job. He's no great shakes but at least he knows what we're doing.
We let this OL get old....our resources over the years should have been used to rebuild the line.....and to an extent, they were....but done poorly....Boothe a good backup, was used as a stop gap starter.....free agents like Baas and Schwartz couldn't stay on the field......we drafted Chris Snee in 2004.....we didn't draft another starter, until Beatty in 2009....that means, that in a span of 8 seasons, we only drafted one starting OLman....how is that not neglecting the OL? and then in desperation we draft a starting lineman from 2013 to 2015.....but you can't just throw guys together and expect instant gratification....in some cases, it may take years for a line to develop....and how have those three performed? Flowers has not played as we hoped, and may be playing out of position.....Pugh is solid, but nothing special.....and Richburg, for whatever reason, has taken a step back....and the right side, is what it is....
Because the OL has been ignored for years, and because of bad decisions in free agency, and draft picks not having the results we expected, this line is what it is.....and Eli is the beneficiary of it, in a negative way.....
This team can't run the ball....it can't consistently convert third and short....because of this, Eli has lost an important element of this offense....the play action pass....defenses give it no respect because we haven't the ability to run the ball....we haven't had that ability for many seasons....can you imagine if Eli came to the line, looked over the defense and had the option to run or pass? He doesn't have that option anymore.....
You almost have to cry as you laugh about the posters who say Reese has taken care of the OL.....he hasn't, and Eli is paying for it.....
But the fact KG REPEATEDLY warned the Giants front office that the OLine was going to sh#t, to no avail, and then eventually we kick him and TC out the door, Gettleman.....

Stop pretending you are an insider. Neither you, nor most people here would know how personnel is procured in a vacuum. Is it a fact that KG warned the FO about the OL, or is it more of you just pulling shit out of your ass?
This sums it up. What you miss is the OL we had for the first half of Eli's career.
