NFT: WiFi Network guru: question

mrvax : 12/5/2016 6:51 pm
I have a wifi connection from my cable company to my laptop. I obtained it by opening a web page once connected and entered my user name and password. Fine. All good.

Bought my 1st smart TV with wifi. How do I connect to that same hotspot being that I have no browser to enter user & password?

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Use the tv remote...

to enter the settings. It will be in here under network settings or something.
Thanks Chris

It could connect to hotspots but not directly to cable tv wifi. Solution: I made my W7 laptop into a hotspot provider as per linked article.

Our phones charge $ for hotspot usage.

I'm confused. So you are using your laptop as a hotspot for the TV to connect to? Not real secure and probably pretty unstable.
That doesn't sound right...

It should connect directly to your wireless router network.
One likely difference in getting the TV to connect...

... is that you might have to type in the SSID (i.e. the name) of your wireless network explicitly, because many "smart" TVs are actually pretty dumb where wifi is concerned. It can be a pain, because your remote doesn't have a an alpha keyboard. The good news is, you'll probably only have to do it once.

Do you have your own wifi router?
You should t have needed to open your routers page in order to connect

your computer. Your wifi (router) should have its own id and password (on a sticker on the bottom of the router)

I have no idea how YOU connected your computer but it sure doesn't sound right.
I have no router

I connect my 4G phone to the internet. Unlimited plan...for the phone only. Using EasyTeather to connect to my laptop.

See. the smart TV could connect to my phone's hotspot but usage is limited or will cost $ if exceeded.

Now my laptop provides a hotspot (password protected) for my TV. Works well so far...
