Where do you improve this team

Rjanyg : 12/5/2016 10:52 pm
Ok we are 8-4, probably better than most of us thought we would be through 12 games. We have 4 games to go and a shot at the post season, but let's be honest: Is this a Super Bowl team? Do we have the pieces necessary to win it all? IMO we would have to be extremely lucky and play much better to have any real chance.

It seems that most of our problems have to do with the offense. Left Tackle, Right Guard, Tight End, Fullback, Wide Receiver.....these seem to be the positions that most would say we need help at.

Rank the positions in order of priority. Between FA and the draft I would like to see us add a FA RG and draft OJ Howard in the 1st round. Will Johnson will be back next year at FB. I think Flowers is still young but will improve. A WR could be either drafted or we could bring in a Free Agent.

I like our team and feel we have a good shot at the play offs this year and really like the young player from the 2016 draft and the Free agent class that was brought in.

How about the OL, TE, coaches.

How about them
We need some inspiration and motivation along with improvement.
BBI needs an upgrade

I think we can find some quality fans to bring in here and most of the folks in the game thread should be let go. I bet you'll find them still teamless this time next year.
2OL, a TE,

a WR,a fast LB(or2), and a pass rushing DT(or 2).
I'll be really happy if we get veteran OL and drafted one LT in the first,or a G in the 2nd, and the passrushing DT this offseason.

Yep. Last offseason they needed to fix the defense big time and they did that. This year they need to fix the offense.
There are two choices
David in LA : 12/6/2016 2:29 am : link
reinforce the OL. The hopeful result would be more time for Eli to get most out of the targets he has now. The other choice is to look for a playmaker. Whether it's a stud RB or WR, we are an offense in thirst of getting another weapon outside of OBJ.
Don't forget

A pass rusher and a Mike (probably no sheppard or Robinson)
Well, if im Jerry Reese
AnyoneButPhilly : 12/6/2016 6:17 am : link
I completely ignore the linebacker position and probably reach for a tight end or running back in the first round and then reach for an offensive lineman in the second round

This in a nutshell.
The team needs someone else calling plays.
jsuds : 12/6/2016 6:40 am : link
The Giants O has played with zero rhythm except for the opening drive against the Bengals. So they can get on a roll, but IMO the play calling is preventing that from happening. As HC there are a LOT of other responsibilities for BM. The players on O have for the most part not changed, except on paper they should be better than last year yet we're still waiting for that to jump off the page. I posit it is because our HC/Playcaller is not able to focus on playcalling like he could last year; the other things he is juggling are interfering so he can't get his offense in a rhythm. Perhaps if he steps back and gives someone else a shot that issue could be corrected.

Yes I have thought this as well. Why can't this team get away from the spread/draw? I like high percentage passes on 1st down so you have 2 downs to move the chains or take a shot. Creativity and execution both need to improve IMO.
This past off-season, the focus was strongly on d.
Ira : 12/6/2016 8:08 am : link
In 2017, we should sign or replace our defensive free agents, but use an extra resources to upgrade the offense. Assuming Flowers doesn't improve significantly, our biggest need is left tackle.
Not only a OT we also need a Center
NJLCO : 12/6/2016 8:13 am : link
I know our LT has been taking the heat which is well deserved but we also have a concern at Center. He is getting his ass kicked week in and out. Undersized and I still say his pedigree is not that strong
they need
japanhead : 12/6/2016 10:04 am : link
2 OL, WR, TE, FB, RB. i'd hope for an LB or two as well, but reese is incapable of drafting any so one can only hope an antonio pierce, kawika mitchell, or michael boley type becomes available in FA. on the OL, it's a shame flowers and richburg look like crap and that pugh can't stay on the field. on paper those are their three best OL. in games, notsomuch. that is concerning.
Left Tackle
Bluesbreaker : 12/6/2016 10:46 am : link
and a Guard withing the first 3 pics .
the 3rd pic I would go with a RB TE LB WR who ever is the
BPA at any of those positions .
unless a another O-line DT or DE pops up with better value
the focus must be on the Offense and or replacing a LB
Perkins is the RB of the future
GeorgeAdams33 : 12/6/2016 10:51 am : link
The future could be now, but we don't need to draft a RB as he is probably more talented than any RB we've had since Tiki. He should make a huge jump in year two with his first offseason in our program & first full training camp.

Johnson & Whitlock are coming back.

Adams (see Perkins)...

I would love to sign WR-Terrelle Pryor during the FA period.

The offensive line must FINALLY receive the bulk of the major resources. We should sign the best LT we can get or trade for him.

Same with a vet TE. Eli just deserves to have a guy whom he can count on.

Draft priorities: 1st-OT/G, 2nd-C/G, 3rd-G/C, 4th-TE, 5th-TE/HB, 6th-K, 7th-QB
Same as every year
Giants2012 : 12/6/2016 10:57 am : link
yet it doesn't matter. They don't build the OL.

Why WR?
Spider 67 : 12/6/2016 12:20 pm : link
The last thing this team needs is a WR. They got OBJ, that's all they need. They need OL help including TE's. 3 WR's is nice at times, but WR's don't block like TE's & fullbacks. They need better clock management which comes with the run game and keeps the D off the field. A good run game sets up 3rd & shorts and sets up the occasional 1st & 2nd down passes as teams will need to stay in for the run. 3 WR's out there for all 1st downs is no strategy. Which brings me to better play calling and coaching.

the team needs a legit
japanhead : 12/6/2016 4:34 pm : link
number 2 WR. cruz is not that guy, harris is not that guy, and shepard is a slot guy. in 2007 the giants had burress, toomer, and steve smith. in 2011 they had nicks, manningham, and cruz. they desperately need a no. 2 WR.
A tackle to supplant flowers or at least compete with him and
Patrick77 : 12/6/2016 5:17 pm : link
Hart. A high draft pick could be the guy, but a vet would likely be preferrred at this point.

Then a wide receiver, preferably a larger target. This is likely going to have to be a veteran.

Then a tight end who can block and catch. He doesn't have to be huge, fast, quick or anything special. This guy would preferably be a veteran. Basically what we had in Daniel Fells.

Another defensive end who can rush the passer. We have litttle depth at that position and this guy could keep guys fresh. Hopefully a draft pick can solve this.

Another safety and linebacker to compete and put guys like
Sheppard, Hall, and Herzlich off the roster. Behre and Thompson can't be relied upon so far unfortunately. This hopefully can be found in the draft.

After that if the rest of the team is kept or at least comparable players are brought in to replace the lost ones I think this team is very good next year barring injuries. The offensive line has some depth, the running backs aren't bad when all are healthy, we might have two keepers at TE and 2 options next year at fullback. On defense another pass rusher puts it over the top so long as there isn't a fall in play from the other positions.

This team when 100% healthy has depth at a lot of key positions and some big time players at others. The problem I see is there are a few places like TE, OL, and even WR where another player capable of just being an average starter at key moments is needed.

I think the Giants will re-sign JPP and Hankins.

I'd like to see the Giants target a FA OL, TE and WR.

I would go after G TJ Lang of the Packers, TE Vance McDonald of the 49ers. and WR Michael Floyd of the Cardinals.

In the draft, I'd like to see an OL, LB, RB targeted early.
