NFT: Christmas decorations

Route 9 : 12/5/2016 11:56 pm
I'm noticing it's less and less than the year before. It just me? Seems like 20 or 25 years ago my neighborhood was a Christmas village. Everyone went bonkers gor christmas with their decorative houses. Now it's one or two houses bother on the whole block. Noticed it too by a bunch of other houses by my work.

What about YOU?
My neighborhood is pretty well lit up...

I guess the war on Christmas hasn't reached my neighborhood on Long Island. I do a little less ladder work than when we first bought the house but still have lights on the tree in the front of the house and this year put some really nice LEDs on one of trees in our back yard. The wife loves the tree in the back yard - says its probably the best thing I've done all year besides "relocating" those squirrels.

Merry Christmas!
Why celebrate at your home when you hear Christmas music

and see Santas and all things Christmas everywhere for a month before the actual date? Putting up lights is anti-climactic and rather superfluous.

Just my guess. and probably based on my preference to hear Christmas music on Christmas rather than on Thanksgiving.
My neighborhood...

My neighborhood is all lit up

And most was done Thanksgiving weekend. It was like one of those old movies, the whole neighborhood out decorating all at once on Saturday afternoon.
Really got me in the Christmas spirit.

Yeah, I guess so. I got nothing here. Mostly old people went crazy. I'm actually pissed off at my neighbors because they got like 10 people in the house and even new borns. Meh. nothing special.
My neighborhood has people bussed in from all around NYC
jcn56 : 12/6/2016 7:43 am : link
it has gone from nice holiday spirit to severely annoying traffic gridlock. Tour buses filled with grinning idiots standing in the middle of the street, street vendors without permits that materialize out of nowhere.

Humbug, get off my damn lawn...

What really annoys me is that 99% of the decorations weren't put up by the homeowners, but by a service they paid for. And many of them take donations (whose 'proceeds' go to charity), which they use to defray the cost of those installations. Just grating.
Did my house on Monday after Thanksgiving when the weather was warm.

My neighborhood is really nicely lit up. One neighbor has a 60 foot spruce lit every year and you can see it from all over the area. It's bigger than the Rockefeller Center tree. I hate putting the damn lights up, but I love the finished product. I go solid white lights and solid red lights on every other shrub/tree with a red flood light in the front door, with white candles in each window. It looks awesome, if I do say so myself.
Takes time & money.

Not as much of those things as their once was.
My neighborhood
pjcas18 : 12/6/2016 10:28 am : link
has lights on almost every house. I hate those newer projection spotlights, those are hideous.

My house I have down to a science. the bad thing is I replace all my front yard shrubs with new shrubs and now can't hang lights on the shrubs they're too small, so it looks a little plain.
My town is lit up as always....

...although my desire to spend hours outside in the cold putting up lights decreases each year. :)

The funny thing is, the old-timers tell me (we've been in our house for 10 years) that up until about 20 or so years ago my neighborhood was predominantly Jewish, and my street used to be known as "Bagel Bend," so there were very few lights; with each passing year the number of houses with lights creeps up slightly. There goes the neighborhood?
I generally don't like the projection lights either
lawguy9801 : 12/6/2016 10:42 am : link
But this year I added a snow fall projecting light - basically, small disco ball on its side. Together with my lights, I really like the effect.
Definitely down big time this uear

It's pretty crazy actually.
