Triple doubles and 6 straight wins. That's the key part compared to him going bonkers when KD broke his foot. Not sure how he doesn't win MVP if OKC is top 4-5 seed and he's averaging a triple double.
Oscar's 30.8p 11.4a 12.5r season (44.3 mpg) was in a high pace era with crappier defense. His Royals team played at a 124.9 possession pace.
Russell's 31.0p 11.3a 10.9r (35.7 mpg) season is being played on a 99 possession pace team. Even if you dont adjust for mpg, truing up Russell's stats to account for the pace difference would put Russell on a 39.1 - 14.3 - 13.8 pace.
Westbrook would pass wilt chamberlain as 4th in career triple doubles....
....this season...
Seems impossible to catch Oscar who has 181 career TDs (Westbrook is at 48) but MJ is a more realistic goal (138). Not likely, but cracking 100 in the next few seasons isn't unattainable.
anyone see who started at PG for the lakers last night?
Brandon Ingram. Do oyu know who the starting PG in Philly is when he returns? Thats right, Ben Simmons.
The game has changed, big time in just the last year or 2.
For all the "get off my lawn" NBA fans who have been shitting on the league for transitioning to a small ball game, just give it 5-10 years.
It's going to be a big mans league. Just look at all the top guys under the age of 25. Davis, Embiid, KAT, Porzingis, Giannis, Simmons, Ingram, Gobert, Turner, Drummond. There are so many bigs that play like guards, they are able to handle and shoot (not Drummond or Gobert). Even if you look at the non-stars, guys like Saric, Chriss and bender are all well rounded, athletic guys that are 6'10" +. The emphasis on the 3 ball won't diminish but there are going to be many more elements that will take over (e.g. running an offense out of the post).
athlete I've ever seen in the sport of basketball. He's had 3 knee surgeries, yet he's insanely fast, has insane standing and running vertical leaping ability, and seems never to get tired. He really is a freak of nature.
Greek Freak is also a ridiculous athlete. He seemingly can go from the 3 point line to the rim in 2 steps on a fast break.

I'm starting to wish they would push the 3 point line back and eliminate the corner 3. The midrange game is a thing of the past, and guys that excel in the low post like a Brook Lopez, Jahlil Okafor, or Greg Monroe have little value anymore because everyone just wants guys that can hit the 3. It gets a little boring just watching teams chuck up 30 3 pointers every game.
is an insane athlete and exciting to watch. However, it's worth noting that his rebounding numbers are in part by team design, and in part by stat-padding. The Thunder would rather have him get the defensive rebound instead of having a big man get it and throw an outlet pass. So Russ will collect a lot of uncontested rebounds that guards typically don't get. The cost to this is how often Russ leaves his defensive assignment leading to wide open 3s if there is an offensive rebound.

I don't doubt this at all. But there may be few guys in NBA history I'd want over Russ running the break in transition. Nearly guaranteed points for OKC in full blown transition.

It truly is an amazing accomplishment. He is the most relentless athlete I've ever seen on the court. There are no gears to his game, he is always going 100% on offense.
I wish he dropped the rebound-stat chasing and focused more on actual defense though. He's become terrible on D, despite having all the tools to be All-NBA on that end.
Awesome player, mind-blowing stats. But there are a ton of amazing in-their-prime HOFers in the NBA including a handful who are probably better players than the guy who's averaging a triple double with 30pts.
I dont like the development of the game into being a 3 point affair (I dont blame the coaches for realizing the best way to win). I just prefer watching PnR and low post scoring.
LeBron, Durant, and Curry are the 3 best players in the league.
Kawhi is the runner-up MVP and playing at a beastmode level. CP3 is playing some of the best ball of his career, playing like an animal on defense and running the show on O like always.
Davis is a freak. Giannis is coming full steam ahead.
Westbrook might be MVP, but his "triple crown" numbers overrate his impact. His D has regressed due to his stat chasing.

How much of a defensive impact do you expect a guy who is about to break the NBA usage record (not to mention the speed and energy he uses on the court and on the glass)?
Magic Johnson was a horrible defender but considered top 5 all time.
In no world will harden ever be better than Westbrook. Ever.
Westbrook is easily top 5 in the league.
You'd think the Thunder are on a 6 game losing streak the way he's been "stat chasing".
RE: Westbrook is also the only guard in the top 50
He is probably the only guard who crashes the boards most of the time instead of getting back on defense. Now, it's a testament to his athletic ability that it's even possible for him to get the rebounds, but he is playing the guard position differently from most.

Seemingly, every year we hear people say that CP3 is playing the best all of his career. He doesn't have the postseason success (in a team sport), but man if he isn't such an underappreciated all-time point guard. His game is as well-rounded as you could ever want for someone his size.
Are 6th in defensive efficiency his season. #1 since the start of their winning streak. But oh boy is Westbrook holding that team back.
Meanwhile Houston is 26th on the season...
Adams, roberson, and oladipo are all nba quality defenders though.
So are Ariza, Beverly and Capella.
No doubt those guys are quality defenders. But the impact a PG has on defense doesn't conpare to the impact bigs have. Clearly he isn't detrimental enough on defense to prevent OKC from putting out one of the NBAs best defenses night in and night out.
Come playoff time OKC will just stick Westbrook on the less utilized guard on defense. Like Reddick on LA Or Beverley in Houston. I certainly trust Westbrook more than either steph curry or harden on defense when it counts.

Wouldn't be opposed to this.

How good is the nba when guys like butler, lillard, derozan aren't even in the mention for top 5 in the league.
Damian lillard might be the most underappreciated superstar I've seen in awhile.
