Jennings Odd Man Out Now

NJLCO : 12/6/2016 8:08 am
With the chance that Vereen is back this week my hope is that Jennings is odd man out and not Perkins. I believe Perkins needs more carries and has earned that opportunity. Vereen and Perkins should be our go to 1/2 backs.
Huh??
FatMan in Charlotte : 12/6/2016 8:11 am : link
Neither is the odd man out. Vereen is the 3rd down back and option on passing downs.
Neither Jennings or Perkins is playing well.
area junc : 12/6/2016 8:13 am : link
When I went back and studied the game, I was surprised at how much yardage the RBs left on the field.

If you can stomach it - go back and look at the Giants 1st offensive play of the game. I have no idea what Jennings is doing. Big daylight to his right but he manages to somehow get tackled by the NT for a 3 yard gain. The play is blocked for 10+.

Later in the 1st quarter - nice little trap play blocked for 5+ yards. Except Perkins doesn't hit the hole, dances and gets stuffed for no gain. The next play? Flowers holds 4 yards deep in the EZ for a safety. If Perkins had simply taken the yardage available the previous play, no safety.

The OL is getting killed but really, the run blocking was OK and everyone other than Flowers was OK in pass pro. It was the WRs missing blocks and the RBs missing holes that killed us. IMO.
Jennings has no elusiveness and almost always is tackled

by the first man. He's not bad, but a low-ceiling guy that's not going to make explosive plays.
Jennings is ok
Jeff : 12/6/2016 8:20 am : link
but we need to find an RB that is more explosive. I am not sure that is Perkins but I would like to find out by giving him more plays.
I am so... SO jealous...
Johnny5 : 12/6/2016 8:31 am : link
... every time I watch Le'Veon Bell. That is a real RB.

DAMMIT. I can't believe we have NO running game.... AGAIN.
To be fair,
GiantFilthy : 12/6/2016 8:32 am : link
fans of half the teams in the league are jealous when they watch Bell.
Vereen will get his old role back
UConn4523 : 12/6/2016 8:32 am : link
which is 3rd down RB or as a 3rd or 4th WR. Occasionally he will get an early down carry.

As far as odd man out, it will eat into both workloads.

Johnson on AZ is something else, too.
At least
GiantsRage2007 : 12/6/2016 8:44 am : link
Perkins makes a few people miss. The next tackle Jennings breaks or avoids will be his first.

Perkins might not be great but it's nice seeing some elusiveness.

To me Jennings is JAG

Vareen is great catching passes out of the backfield.

I'm all for Perkins + Vareen and less Jennings.
Jennings does a lot of things..
FatMan in Charlotte : 12/6/2016 8:46 am : link
well that fans never see. There is a reason Sunday was the first loss this year with Jennings as the starting RB, and that reason surely isn't the astuteness of fans.

Hell, in this thread alone, you have the faux insider giving his "study notes" on the game.
Boy Chord I like Johnson too.
area junc : 12/6/2016 8:51 am : link
Want to get sick? Look at the 2015 3rd round again. We take 34 DE Odighizuwa. Pass on RB David Johnson and 43 pass rushing DE Danielle Hunter.

Then, the very next year, we are hot after Leonard Floyd who has a similar skillset to Hunter. Go figure.
Shouldnt be a bashing thread on Jennings as he
Jimmy Googs : 12/6/2016 8:57 am : link
does what is expected of him and provides a lot of comfort probably to Eli.

But I don't think its bad to look onto maybe a more productive mix of Perkins and Vereen when he is able. Both clearly have more speed and wiggle, and Perkins looks to have his confidence in pass protection lately as well so the depth chart should be adjusted.

I think many on the site were hoping/predicting the rookie would start taking the lead by end of the season anyway.

We'll see if McAdoo agrees...
Vereen as #1?
lugnut : 12/6/2016 9:39 am : link
IIRC, the few times Vereen was given simple handoffs he did fine. He looked at least as good as Jennings and Darkwa (Perkins hadn't seen the field yet). If we're looking for a "bell cow" or at least a primary back, can it really not be Vereen? I bet he'd dig it and be hungry for it -- he's a gamer. As it stands now, having him back and in is just more telegraphing of our plays. Vereen is in on 3rd -- oh, yeah, they're going to throw it to him out of the backfield.

100% agree. My seats were in the upper deck so we could see the play develop. My gf, the guy next to me and myself were commenting on this all day. It was incredibly frustrating.

yes that first play - Jennings ran right into the tacklers. if he had any vision he would have seen the space. Perkins/vereen show life... but yes Bell, Elliot - they're special.
Watching Bell
Bluesbreaker : 12/6/2016 11:16 am : link
number one Pitts O-line is big and physical the thing that
stood out to me was Bell's patience at time he would stay
a half step back waiting for the proper moment and get
through the D-line for 3-5 yards . He is a very skilled back .
As for Jennings he is what he is at this point in his career
but even though he whiffed on a couple of blocks like
FMIC he has a lot of intangibles that don't fit on the
stat sheet and we need him going forward .
Vereen will at the very least give the offense a spark
especially in the pass game could open up the run game as
well . They will have to account for him because he is
a slippery type player he could make a big difference in the offense not only running the ball but making the
defense account for him it could really open up the
run game . Especially getting Pugh back .
Vereen is no threat as a #1 RB
joe48 : 12/6/2016 2:18 pm : link
He is a nice receiver out of the backfield but not a great running back.

I respect what you're saying but Perkins averaged 5.7 yards/carry or something. That sounds pretty decent
I actually think Vareen is the odd man out
PatersonPlank : 12/6/2016 8:06 pm : link
Perkins has taken his role.
