What we need most from this OL

Big Blue '56 : 12/6/2016 10:22 am
At this point it's kind of ludicrous to dwell on what we should have done or not done with the OL as we are stuck with these guys for the next 4 games and hopefully beyond.

What we need is some continuity with the guys we have. We need, Flowers, Pugh, Richburg, Jerry and Newhouse/Hart playing together for the remaining games, no matter what you/we think of them..Shuffling in 5 different Guards (due to injury) has created even more chaos in an already chaotic situation for the running game and Eli..Not excusing their play per se, but staying put would help, I believe. Stay tuned..
Also believe,

Flowers would really benefit from Pugh next to him

Flowers-Pugh-Richburg-Jerry-Hart has been pretty solid together. Let's see how they respond once Pugh is back.
I thought they played rather well together.

I believe (hope) Vereen, if healthy, will be a big boost
Here's what I don't get

We need some help in blowing open some holes. We need some help in giving Eli another second or two. Right?

Sitting on our sideline is a guy with power to push open holes as a fullback would. That same guy can give great pass protection when needed. He's signed. He's been practicing for week after week. He's ready. He's Will Beatty and for the life of me I cannot see why he is not being used more.

I know it has been mentioned here but I still don't get the reason for his lack of use. Are we saving him for the Super Bowl?

I hear you Sam, but it has to be something we're not privy to..Maybe(not alleging) he really has lost a lot
As Pat Traina has said many times on Twitter"Do
That’s Gold, Jerry : 12/6/2016 10:54 am : link
you really think if he was one of the best five he would not be playing".

It is obvious the Giants have zero faith in him. Again, the only question this begs is why did they sign him then?

But I got enough flak yesterday for posing such questions...LOL!
Lost a lot in both run blocking and pass pro?
Still a Sam Huff fan : 12/6/2016 10:55 am : link
I'm sure you are right and we are not up to speed on what happens in practice day to day. Even if they just use him as a battering ram. He couldn't have lost that much, could he?

Hard to disagree..
What is the timetable
Fred-in-Florida : 12/6/2016 11:14 am : link
for either of them returning? I know they were both practicing .. but didn't Pugh have a set back?
Beatty could very well be mailing it in for all we know

It is troubling though that Flowers hasn't been moved or benched ever.

Personally I think the offensive line has been proven to be quite deep this season - the big issue is that outside of Pugh and Richburgh there are no guys playing at a high level or that seem capable of playing at a high level. Everyone takes turns screwing up. Hart, Jerry, Newhouse can all be more than adequate at times. Jones is good depth. I don't know what the missing piece is. It is hard to imagine bringing in another LT next offseason and shuffling the entire line. As bad as Flowers has been at times the guy has major tools and is young. For all we know Flowers would be a great right tackle or guard - but it ain't happening this season.

The shocking part for me is Flowers' footwork. There are a lot of time he doesn't move them or he does t kick out near far enough and basically closelines the defender. At least at guard that issue would be mitigated to some extent in the short term.
My glimmer of hope ..

I have a bit of a
revelation that not only getting Pugh back but just as
important getting Shane Vereen back . He has fresh legs and
he could change the way teams are defending us and open up
the entire offense and why not ?
If Eli can get him the ball on the run in key situations
the safety is going to have to adjust for him it really
could change the offense dramatically . He also has fresh
legs LB's are not gonna cut it trying to defend him all
game long . We also know he can run the football and give
Eli a better option to move the chains .
Were all sick of watching this team struggle on offense .
I say he will be our savior and he has proved he is a clutch performer . Go Giants
We need some consistency in personnel
AnnapolisMike : 12/6/2016 11:46 am : link
But we also need a more balanced attack. Teams are taking away the Giants passing attack. The Giants need to run the ball more...even if it does not work that well. It will open up more things in the passing game.

Sure, that's ideal, but the Pats eschew balance most of the time. What we need more than anything is to EXECUTE what we do run..

This group never was and never will be anything better than average or less. Generally soft and short on talent. Flowers will not flourish at left tackle. Best bet would be to switch Flowers and Pugh. I don't know how Flowers would be pulling but it would be a train coming around the corner.
Don't blame injuries

I remember packers game and we were just as bad with Pugh.. flowers is horrible..

Agreed, 56.

I must say the Beatty situation is baffling to me but most important is flowers Pugh and richburg playing together, imo

I'm by no means an expert but Jerry and hart seem like a pleasant surprise given expectation going into the season
