Sorry all the updates were lost.
- Unnamed Islander out with the flu (Mayfield recalled)
- Grabner out because of a death in the family
- Tavares is Vesey's bitch
- Halak in net according to Greg
That's all I saw before the deletion.
Admittedly the comparison doesn't work well because your forwards suck.
They were good enough to put some goals in last night. I'll take it.
But lets be clear. Rangers were without Mika, Buch, and Grabs. Nash, Staal, and Vesey were hurt during the game (as was our 12th forward). It's not all that fair to say that this is the "real" Rangers.

Had missed the last 10 games for the Islanders, how panicked would you be about a 4-5-1 record during that span?

I get it -- When someone points out that your argument is completely stupid, just say "scoreboard".
I thought he looked better last night than he had in a while (and Staal looked fantastic even if he did screen Hank on the JT goal).
It is far from clear to me whether Kreider has been playing hurt, or it's just his usual inconsistency.
I think any remaining difference in effectiveness is partly attributable to his constantly changing linemates lately and specifically missing the 2 Fs with which he's had the best rapport of any teammates we've seen in his career.
And I am painfully aware that these are exactly the type of rationalizations that people have been making for CK for years...

I'm not even sure what your argument is. All you really said was that the Islanders forwards "suck" and pointed to the opening night scoreboard and blamed injuries for recent poor play.
What's your argument? That if by some miracle the Islanders make the playoffs this year they should hope to face Tampa, Pitt or Washington instead of NYR? Is that your point?

Your momma
Be happy that you won. The Isles absolutely deserved to win. Congrats again.
No one is making excuses, or injury excuses, for last night's loss. Injuries certainly have been a factor contributing to the string of poor play lately, but horrendous play from the defensemen and lackluster goaltending have been equally to blame and equally pointed out by NYR fans on this board/thread almost ad nauseum. But read what you want to read.
When is our next game (Feb 16?)?
**not sure if it was posted but Niklas Jensen has been recalled by the Rangers.
We'll count on you to keep elevating the level of hockey discussion around here, Mike. So put the dolls away and see if you can contribute any actual insight to hockey threads other than re-typing random stats that any of us can see on twitter.

Increasingly optimistic that we've actually seen the last of Tanner Glass.

They're replica figurines.
Ice guardians or Guardians on the Ice - something like that, looks awesome. trailer below
Ice Guardians - ( New Window )
I believe it's called Ice Guardians.
Considering some of the Islanders struggles with possession stats, and considering that Grabokski was one of our best "possession" players, he'd be a very welcome return to the team if he's somehow healthy.

Interesting, and I agree. Do you have a link by any chance?
The one you guys posted was the one I was looking for -
Feels just like last year, right down to you having the same arguments on here about it.
Not a stats guy...Completely ridiculous dude. Stats are real, tangible results. You can use them for all types of interesting stuff even if they haven't been exactly perfected for hockey and the game is simply nothing like say....baseball which is perfect for stats because of the static way the game works. For example one guy hits, one guy pitches, set number of strikes = outs, balls = walks, players on the field play set positions and we know over a larger longer period of time, the stats become more significant. We know whats good and what's bad. The stat of WAR kind of sucks because we know it tells us a lot but its not exact and its actually measured differently by diffeent sources. In general the stats like OPS and WHIP are excellent tho.
Hockey is the opposite. Nothing static about it. Hell a guy playing right wing in theory can spend a whole shift on the other side of the ice in the neutral zone.
I have no issue with stats in the slightest. Love looking at them and think they are interesting as hell. But hockey fans who use them are often zealots. They use them like they can paint a picture of a game or a player and its not at all true. Just use a silly example where a dummy like me who isn't enlightened looks at a box score of all the old stats and the new advanced testament. You can give me every damn new stat and fancy number but if you say "Rick Nash had 4 goals 3 assists 5 shots 3 hits 3 takeaways and played 18 minutes" that is what says it all. You can tell me all that but somehow tell me he also had a bad corsi. His possession numbers can be completely awful but still he can do that and it takes that possession number and makes it worth literally nothing at all. You can tell me how lucky a team is based on PDO (even if it doesnt quite translate so literally) and if a team sustains the "luck" then they are what they are. PDO or not.
You get me?
Anakim, I guess...You watch games like a 12 year old child. That sums it up. Each game you wait for a moment you can point to so you can come here and post about how awful a guy is. You can wait for a loss so you can claim the team is in dire straits regardless of the fact that a season is 82 games and if during your best streaks you win 8 of 9 and go on a west coast road trip and whip 3 teams in a row, you don't recognize how superb that is. Such that if you were to go 4-5 during a stretch, it would obviously be shitty to watch but in no way a reason to crap your pants. You aren't going 78-4. If somehow you can escape a slump of .500 and go back to winning 4 of 5, your team will finish with a dominant record. So your end of the world theories are always so absurd especially in a season like this one where the rangers have been beating teams so badly its actually funny. The worry comes if they keep losing. No matter what, losing good players to injuries or parents dying is going to affect the team too.
Then the whipping boy routine. It's boring. The Rangers do not have 3 sets of elite d men. They can upgrade RD but perhaps patience is tolerable when you have the most points? Kevin Klein is not playing his best. WHen he plays more, you'll notice he isnt a top pair defenseman. THat;s why he never played that way. It doesnt mean he sucks. It means he can't fill the role they need to fill.
Copy?
Set up a timer. Lets see how long you can get through that post...
...annnnnnd....

Rangers are only 5 points up on 9th place. League is so clustered.
30 Thoughts - ( New Window )
But he wont commit to it for even the next game. So it likely means that Clendo gets a single game, and then back on the pine.
We are now in year 2 of a defensive group disaster, and AV doesnt seem all that disturbed. At least with Torts there was a plan -- block shots, turtle etc. With the current group there is just talk about doing things better, no results, and no lineup changes.
Things could get real ugly quickly as injuries unsurprisingly mount for a lot of teams given these stupid schedules.
Yes Rangers no longer have playoff positioning by much and that's because they cannot for whatever reason push games to overtime. 1 in 27 games now. 9 regulation losses just one fewer than the islanders at 10. To put in perspective I watched the end of the Panthers - flyers game last night ... Was the panthers 11th overtime of the season and the flyers ninth. That is 18 collective points awarded to those teams/opponents vs Rangers. All the regulation games are killing us.

The sooner the NHL switches to a 3/2/1/0 system the better off the sport will be.
Mike, re: Grabovski, no link, just a poster on HFboards with supposed connections to Grabovski's camp (he's been ahead of this stuff before). I'd take it with a grain of salt until Staple/Islanders confirm, but it's at least a little exciting to think there's a chance he plays this year.
Talking about what he wants to accomplish with his remaining time on the Islanders.
There's still a ton of season left. How teams look in the first few weeks of the season isn't always how they look heading into the playoffs (see 2015-2016 Rangers for an example).
Actually, Rangers looked pretty good from January-April last year, which is why they held onto Keith Yandle at the trade deadline.
Everyone points to the Rangers great (smoke-and-mirrors) start last season and a sub-.500 mark from late November on (30-30-1 or thereabouts), but the reality is they were the worst team in hockey for a 6 week stretch from late November to December. Exclude that like you do their first 20 games... and it was a 100 point pace team.
They just happened to win a meaningless game 82, E Staal and McDonaugh got hurt heading into the playoffs, and oh yeah, they ended up facing a white hot uber-talented team that eventually won the Stanley Cup. Shit happens.
Hope that's all it is.
Is what it is. This could get really really ugly
