JPP update: Needs surgery, will try to play through it

dep026 : 12/6/2016 3:58 pm
I don't have a linked source. However as a person close to me down in Philly has said that he will eventually need surgery and is looking to play through it. It looks initially that he will be shut down for a few weeks.

Just passing on what I've heard. Don't kill the messanger.
Crap, well on his way to a huge payday
section125 : 12/6/2016 4:01 pm : link
and bang. The way he went down, thought a knee went. No shooting the messenger. Thanks for the update.
that sucks
UConn4523 : 12/6/2016 4:02 pm : link
we need to somehow win 2 of our next 4 with or without him. Our defense kept us in pretty much every game this year so its now or never with the offense. This is a huge blow for Sunday night given our ability to shut down the run just got very shaky.
Crappy in the short term
BigBlueDownTheShore : 12/6/2016 4:03 pm : link
Might help in the long term as far as bringing his cost down on a multi-year deal.
Hearing same but unconfirmed

Well, here is the opportunity Odi

Are you an NFL player or just warm body?

He was probably always going to miss the Cowboys game
Chris684 : 12/6/2016 4:13 pm : link
after he went down Sunday.

If he can get out there and be effective in time for Detroit or Philly the latest, this is the best we could have hoped for.

This is a crushing blow for this team.
time for Odi, Okwara, and or Wynn to step up

Really can't be understated, but this is not a one-man team. We still have players and guys need to step up. I still expect them to be competitive against the Cowboys and think they can win.
The offense is going to have to pick up the level of play
Go Terps : 12/6/2016 4:19 pm : link
It's not unrealistic against these four defenses.
damn
AnnapolisMike : 12/6/2016 4:19 pm : link
sucks for him and the Giants. Going to be tough stopping Elliott without JPP.
...
christian : 12/6/2016 4:22 pm : link
One thing we know is JPP is plenty tough and will play if he can. If it's a pain thing he'll be on the field.

If its a sports hernia I can tell you its very painful. When I had it I had to sleep kneeling next to the bed with my knees on the floor b/c anything else stretched my abs too much. Running for me was way too painful at that point. Its a quick rehab.

I mentioned on the other thread I had the same surgery from the same Dr he saw today.
It's not just the pain,
Doomster : 12/6/2016 4:31 pm : link
but can he cause further damage?

In a contract year, you don't take that chance....

Exactly!! I have more faith in Okwara being able to stay on the field more than O O. Let's face it Okwara hasn't looked that bad!
Okwara

Is the next man up and if I'm Spags I look at a 3-4 front with Kennard at hybrid DE/LB along with the other 3 starters on the DL and maybe a Robert Thomas or Bromley at DE. It worked well early on last year with Ayers and Kennard as the LBs when Hankins was at nose with Jenkins and Selvie flanking him. Against the Cowboys, I'd be all for a front of OV, Thomas/Bromley, Harrison, Hankins, Kennard with Robinson and Casillas behind and Collins playing down low. Man up the WRs and take your chances.

Totally agree, especially this week.

Spags has got his work cut out for him. I think he can temporarily find a way to overcome the loss of JPP as a pass rusher but his play against the run is gonna be awfully tough to replace.

They need to stop Zeke first and foremost IMO. No JPP makes that much more difficult and Spags will have to do some great game planning to make up for his loss.

Was thinking the same. now would a good time to go 3-4 with Snacks at NG Hankins DE Thomas or/Bromley DE Vernon OLB Kennard or Odi OLB Robinson/Sheppard and Castlias ILBs Hard to run on the 3-4.

Stop the run let Dax beat you.
And the road to the SB keeps getting easier for Dallas
nyjuggernaut2 : 12/6/2016 5:45 pm : link
first Seattle loses Earl Thomas, and now this. Ugh!
You don't let Dax beat you
Cruzin : 12/6/2016 5:55 pm : link

But you force him to throw.

8 in the box, man up on the outside and take your chances with Dez and Beasley. My main concern is that Robinson is going to be busy with Witten who had zero targets last week ( his one target and catch was nullified by a holding penalty).

The thing I like about this defense is there are versatile players that are willing to take chances. Doesn't always work out but it makes it harder for the QB to make reads, there's no accurate early read before he has to deal with the pass rush.

Dallas's D is below mediocre, we can out score them. Eli lives for these match ups, if the ball bounces our we I think we can handle this.
The offense needs to step up?

Wow

That does not sound good. Would love to hear a doc's opinion (BB56?) on what this means, football wise, not just this season but beyond

It will be an afterthought. It's a simple injury with a simple healing regime. If he gets offseason surgery he will be as good as new in a couple of months.

Love ya, man, but dream on, that's what all the last 11 losers to Dallas have said. Hope is not a strategy. JFC, so many illusionists here

This just in Dallas has allowed less points than we have .
They also score a hell of a lot more points than we do .
With the way out offense is playing Hope is about all
we got . They also don't turn the ball over .
Not to mention 10 days rest ... While we are still licking
our wounds from the Steelers battering run game ....
But go ahead and think Dak Prescott is just gonna fall
apart who can also kill you with his legs ..
Color me pessimistic .
But hey we play well when our backs are against the wall Right?
