Collins told reporters Tuesday he'd like to have former NFL quarterback and current Mets minor-league outfielder Tim Tebow play in spring training, according to Marc Carig of Newsday. He went on to explain that even if Tebow isn't invited to big-league camp, he'd go out of his way to make sure he could bring him over for some games. |

.@Royals' price for closer Wade Davis too steep for @Mets http://nydn.us/2g8tlo2

They wanted Rosario.
Sources: #Cubs close to acquiring Wade Davis from #Royals for Jorge Soler.
I am shocked he signed for so little despite the injury. Atlanta should have been all over him at that price.
I think it would be fun to see him in spring training too.
Even if it is a side show.
Can't be worse than Cespedes riding a horse to spring training or a different car every day for the first week+
The Mets desperately need speed IMO. One of the reasons I'd consider Rosario sooner rather than later (like Super 2 vs September).
and if the Mets are in contention in September Champ Stuart would be a guy I call up even just to pinch run (and play defense?) (101 SB's to 15 CS in the minors)

Runs well for his size but no, his speed is average at best. He's not going to be a guy you use as a speedy pinch runner. Stuart might be.
Pinch runners can turn a series, just ask Dave Roberts.
I remember one day in mid-late August when Reyes stole his 4th or 5th base as a Met he took over the team stolen base lead from Wright who hadn't played in 2 and a half months.
Soler has been disappointing so far but this is a no-brainer (for both sides). Soler has an incredibly team friendly contract which makes him a good value even if he somehow is never anything greater than a 4th OF. If he's more it's a monster value.

has an 70/80 arm and 70/80 speed (and is a great baserunner). K-rate really crushes his upside unless something changes.

For sure. Stuart could very well see time on a playoff roster thanks to his 2 excellent tools.
Look man. First, there is no parade. It's hot stove and people have asked here for me to share in the past if he mentions stuff. If it turns out to be nothing, it's no big deal. Im certainly not claiming to be an insider or anything because of him. Joe D, Teddy, Michael Mayer and others back him and quite frankly he seems to mention things different than you do so maybe you have different circles or connections. We all know you have sources too. He said there were discussions about Morales at the deadline. I dont know how close they got or if it was ever on the verge of happening. As for the Sale deal, he said that although discussions were going on with the Nats the Nats were unaware they had been talking to the Red Sox the entire time and yes he said it the day before. Why dont you chime in on what he mentioned yesterday? Could the Mets be making any of our starting pitching available because it hasn't been mentioned anywhere AT ALL in the media. If something were to happen with any of the BIG 5/6 I think it would be pretty shocking in Mets world. You say no? Great. Guess we'll see.
I find that hard to believe it was a secret at least in baseball circles the way the media is these days.
but I have no way of knowing.

In the sense that it was as advanced as it was with them only two days ago. The media as of yesterday morning had the Nats as the heavy favorites it seemed like.
Seemed like a real nice add. I wonder how badly his knees are effected and if a AL team was more desirable for him?

said the Red Sox and White Sox had been talking Sale for over a year.

Definitely agree.
There was the infamous BR linked article in a thread on here that said "the White Sox and Nationals are finalizing the trade" but I believe that was more BR bad reporting than anything else. I would guess the Nationals weren't blindsided by the Red Sox involvement, though the Bleacher Report article author may have been.
You just know if Desmond signs with the Cardinals he has a huge year
Nats trade was close, but Sox wanted a bit more. Leaked to the media to see if another team cracks - worked to perfection.

Right, but I'd like to know about if the Mets are considering making any of the starting pitching available? Not interested in getting in a pissing match with you either but that was the point of my/his post and I felt it was different/worth mentioning, not the Sale deal. I think sometimes you are quick to squash "parts" of something but then will act quickly mysterious or stay away from other things. If you want to shoot him, shoot him. Dont be scared. lol
I think Harvey and Wheeler are obviously out.
Thor I'd hope is untouchable.
Matz and deGrom are probably borderline too (not untouchable, but interesting enough to another team they'd trade fair value for them) because of their recent surgery and injury past (both had one TJ already).
so that leaves possibly deGrom or Matz, Gsellman, and Lugo.
If we limit it to the major league roster.
So if it's a big trade it would have to be deGrom or Gsellman IMO.
I'm just guessing here.
Don't think a trading team cares that DeGrom will be 29 vs. Matz's 26 when you take into account track record, durability and similar years of control. DeGrom is team controlled 29-30-31-32, Matz 26-27-28-29-30.
deGrom has been worth 3.5, 5.3 and 3.3 (missed 8 starts) fWAR, Matz has yet to make it through a full MLB season. 100% not "hating on" Matz but he's been routinely dinged even most TJ. Back, traps etc. To me either he's healthy in 2017 I doubt he has a very long career as a SP.

No, teams don't care if they trade for him now - just an observation. Because of his late blossoming career for the reasons we all are aware of, he'll be 32 (I believe) before he hits free agency.
Sucks for him.
Sorry man but that's not correct. He's thrown 140.2, 139.6, and 132.1 the last 3 years. Not great but more innings than you are suggesting, no offense please.
I'm typically vague, because nothing should ever be directly said. Especially this offseason - it is made VERY clear things much tighter, except for public policy. But the funny thing is, when I am vague, it's actually pretty blunt and directly. Just indirectly lol. And there is one poster here who I think 'gets it'. I'm rarely vague that it could be interpreted multiple ways, so I can come back and say "SEE". I'd rather say something that amuses just myself.
I think Sandy does a great job of the above himself. Leaks "anyone is available, except Rosario". Seems vague. Seems meaningless. Yet it is a 100% direct blow.
Enough rambling. Wasn't and still isn't the intention to trade pitching this offseason. Could it happen, sure - someone could blow your socks off at any moment. But I don't see that happening. Nothing has happened in the last day or two that has changed ANYTHING.

signing with the Mets Steven Matz has thrown over 106 innings.. once. So until he proves he can throw innings he's essentially a talented cocktease. A major talent but lets see it.

I was going by memory, must have been another of our injury prone guys. Either way those are VERY low numbers. Those innings are so low it's fair to ?? if he can even last an entire season. 2015 it was "slept weird" which somehow turned into significant lost time, this year BOTH shoulder and elbow issues. I like Matz but calling him fragile (to this point) would be an understatement.
