We are speculating, but if it's a sports hernia, he could return in 4 weeks. Which would put him able to come back for the playoffs, with an outside shot at Washington.
The Giants 'may' find out if they truly have a #3 DE on the team going into next season (pending JPP's return) OR will they need to go draft another DE.
JPP is a stud. I really like Okwara. More reps may mean more sacks. Spag's will have his plate full scheming a pass rush
I'm less concerned about pass rush and more on stopping the run this weekend. We've seen Spags play Hankins as DE in some pass rush spots the past few weeks. I wonder if they would consider shifting Hankins out to JPP's spot to help anchor and look for Bromley/Thomas to take up space next to Snacks. At the very least, we could look for Wynn to battle Doug Free to a draw. The only upside for this week is Free is the Cowboys weakest lineman. But they went from what would have been a pretty sure advantage to maybe a push at best.
Stating the obvious, but keep in mind that if he goes on IR Â
Kerry Wynn or Okwara? who is the choice for the most reps? Owara better physical tools but Wynn seems to be a guy in the right place (occasionally anyway) even going back to last year.
Behind Eli and OBJ. I felt like they were a marginal playoff quality team and this really puts their back up against the wall. The O needs to wake up because the D is still very good now but will never be great without JPP. He was invaluable and even underrated by some accounts.
I do hope they work out a long term deal with him. You can't find two way star DEs easily. Draft can be a toss up and free agency you need to pay anyways so might as well take the best available who happens to be JPP.
Afraid to see that I agree. We were a fringe contender to begin with given our offensive woes, but I doubt we can shut down the run now. The saving grace is our last 3 games are against teams with bad or pitiful rushing attacks.
I am sure the Linebackers can help in run support on that side Â

Excellent analysis. My guess is they put him on IR, maybe not this week, but soon. It's not even a given that he can come back for the NFC championship game. And even if he does, how effective can he be six weeks after surgery tor repair a sports hernia and his groin?
I wouldn't be surprised to see Hankins at DE on some plays. If not, I assume it will be Wynn on run downs, and Okwara when the Cowboys are expected to throw. Terrible news. Get well soon JPP.
Cue the sky is falling crowd here and in the media Â
This sucks big time but we do have players to fill in all be it not JPP but I believe Wynn and Okwara can provide solid play. I also believe now this may light a fire under the Offense’s ass to pick-up there game which is our big issue not defense.
I choose the glass half full point of view and with 4 games left believe this team can still win. The offense has been sad this season but has done enough to win unlike last season when they knew they had to put points on the board to compete. It’s time for them to step-up!
injuries unfortunately play a very big part. Giants have been relatively healthy this season.
Tough to lose such a player, but good teams endure. Think the Patriots will miss Gronk, but not to the point that they won't win the division and be a player in the tournament.
Good teams find ways to survive these types of losses.

JPP had surgery to repair a sports hernia this morning, per source. Expected to be out for the remainder of season. Likely 6 weeks recovery
Great scoop Big Rick!!!

JPP also needed his groin repaired as well, per source. Regular season is over.[/quote
I love it -- Big RIck got the news to the beat reporters
Giants hoped rest and rehab would be enough. Visit to specialist indicated surgery for JPP was needed.

Jason Pierre-Paul had surgery this morning to repair sports hernia. His regular season is over. Return for playoffs a possibility.
Source confirms JPP had sports hernia surgery. Recovery timeline of roughly six weeks. That would mean NFC Championship at the earliest.
Yeah I confuse him with Double O. Because that's the number of sacks the two will have by the end of the year.

ouch. It would've been nice to have him back for the Divisional Round.
Let's see what Okwara has. This is his opportunity to seize
the next man up after JPP is a astronomical downgrade, all those guys suck.
This was a fun season. Hope he gets healthy and the Giants bring him back

I think Wynn steps in at LDE, correct?

Sadly, I laughed longer than I should have.
The JPP/Vernon combo was really starting to preform the last few weeks
I wonder how this affects his payment. He's dinged up an awful lot, last year's accident notwithstanding.
