Paul Perkins

I don't know about anyone else but wouldn't you like to see more of him as opposed to Jennigs? He just seems to be able to make something out of nothing better then Jennings.

Jennings is more of a between the tackles runner whereas Perkins is smoother, runs between the tackles just as well and is faster to the edges. Plus he has shown an ability to block very well when the need arises.

Jennings is a tough runner but I think Perkins is more of a threat. He has a knack that is evident and I think McAdoo should consider using more then he does.
I do not think any of our running backs

have left me salivating for one over the other. I agree Perkins looked better than ever last game, but still it was 7 carries for 38 yards, his prior performances were in the Jennings category of about 3.4 YPC. I think Jennings gets better as the game goes, but in order to capitalize on that, you have to give him a lot of carries that go nowhere early in the game. It is not a great situation.

As an aside, I really liked Perkins's juke of James Harrison Sunday. He may be a better option than Jennings, I am just not convinced at this point that he is.

That juke of Harrison has been on display all year from time to time. All running backs get it stuffed down their throats. Even the best. But they get theirs too. I think Perkins is one of those threats. I think he looks like one of those guys while not the biggest gets more dangerous and better as the game goes on. He is much shiftier then Jennings in and out of the space that is their and like I said before seems more able to make something out of nothing then Jennings.

Perkins has potential (remember it took a few yeas for Tiki to develop into a threat)but no one on the current roster scares anyone.
He needs more snaps!

I believe if he gets more snaps we will have ourselves a good back if not a very good back for the future. Give him the ball, please.
He's

exactly what I thought he'd be. Can't run away from anyone at the NFL level, but excellent elusiveness and "make you miss" ability. Saw a lot of UCLA games. Had a third round grade on him. Was thrilled to get him in the fifth.
With a better OL..

Perkins would likely be a better choice, but Jennings is very good at blocking responsibilities and understanding how to be a safety valve. There is a reason, the Giants have lost only one game this year with Jennings as the starter, and a lot of it has to do with the unseen tangibles.

Agree, I would love to get a decent line in front of Perkins so that we know if he is the long term answer at RB.

Good post. I think Perkins is gradually picking these things up, but there is something to be said for having a smart veteran.
Perkins is also still a rookie
JonC : 12/7/2016 9:02 am : link
There tends to reasons why the role is limited.
Got to scratch out two more wins this season, and now without JPP.

May need to have Offense make some modifications to get it done as cannot expect Defense to keep the point totals down.

Perkins is clearly one of those possible modifications...
Need to see a breakout game before giving him a lot more touches

Most players earn playing time based on performance or injury to others.

You can't force more playing time on him. Jennings may not have Perkins' moves, but he doesn't make rookie mistakes.
Not impressed.

Honestly, I expected more.

He's good in the open field, good vision, but lacks acceleration and quickness.

A boring back in a bad backfield.

This might be a case of the grass is always greener on the other side. IMO, we have a bunch of back-up type RB's that are running behind an OL that isn't good at blocking for them. You all have seen the results. Obviously an upgrade to the OL is necessary, but we could also use some better personnel back there running the ball as well.

I would bet that Jacobs, Bradshaw and Tiki would all have a lot more success behind this OL (as bad as it is) than the guys we have right now, and its because they are better players.
Tiki - OL didn't matter...

...his style found ANY gap in that line. To me, seemed like some of his biggest plays came when the hole wasn't there.

I would like to see more of Perkins. He does seem to have some ability to make potential tacklers miss. He also seems to have good pass protect ability. I really don't see a downside to playing Perkins more.

I would also like to see the Jints experiment a bit with using Jennings as a fullback. Jennings is a big guy with blocking ability and a good understanding of the Jint offense. He has slowed a bit and does not break an tackles any more.

I would also like to see Eli throw more swing passes to Perkins but Eli needs to be more accurate and lead the receiver more. I would very much like to see Perkins with the ball more out in space.
