"in the court of the Crimson King" line and the way he sang it. I remember the crazy album cover and I thought it was weird until I heard the music. Yeah, and I liked ELP as well, mostly for him. All these old rock people dying off. Kind of sad....
ELP at MSG in the summer of 77 with my cousin. I was still in high school at the time and used to go live my aunt and uncle in Brooklyn during the summer painting apartments with my uncle and cousin. That concert was the high-lite of my summer. Unfortunately, a week later was the blackout of 77.
The guy was such a big influence on the music that I love to listen to, and play. With him and Chris Squires gone, there's only a few of my major bass influences left alive. :(
Fortunately I have a gig this Saturday night, and though we always play a song or two from Greg Lakes catalog, we'll be increasing the number of them that we play this week in tribute to him. I am looking forward to it even more now then I was.

I saw Floyd do Animals/Wish You were Here/ Dark Side of the Moon, July 3rd 1977 in the Garden. Saw ELP the same year. It just will never get as good as that was. I feel bad for the cool people that missed something they would have appreciated.
Note to Phil in LA, your input on the "soul" of ELP has been heard and recognized. Your opinion matters although I could change it with 3 hours of your time.

So true, the music and concerts back then at the height of the progressive rock era was awesome. I still listen and go see those artists perform when I can recently seeing Steve Hackett doing Genesis revisited. Even took my 9 year old to a Peter Gabriel concert couple years back. In my opinion that era of music was the best, such musicianship.
Yes in the Garden, Zappa at the Palladium on Halloween, The Allman Brothers at the Beacon, Springsteen, Zepplin, Floyd, Tull, Grand Funk wherever you could see them.
Bily Joel played so long at The Mid Hudson Civic Center they put a curfew on the next day.
If you didn't live the 70's you can only hear about what it was like.
I liked ELP back in the 70s. I probably still have a couple of their albums on vinyl lying around.
RIP
Very sad.
2/3 of one of my favorite group gone.
I'd be a poorer man if I hadn't seen Pictures at an Exhibition live.
RIP

RIP Mr. Lake. You will be missed...
What a kick ass song.
