If there is ever a time for Reese to address this, it's right now. Pettigrew a veteran that can block and was 2nd on the Lions in receptions/yards to Calvin Johnson a few years back. What on earth do we have to lose?
the guy hasn't played a full season in 5 years, not exactly the type of guy I want to go into the season as a starter. I'd bring him in for camp and let him earn his way on the team, but I'd rather invest in someone better and younger without the large injury list.

I'm not talking about next year I'm talking about the rest of this year. Mind-blowing that no one wants a tight end that can actually run-block.
Are moving away from a veteran that knows the system in the middle of the year?
What benefit do they receive by cutting him now?
He's been on IR the whole season recovering from a torn ACL. They had to activate him or release him by the end of this week. Chose the latter with Ebron performing.
camp, or even bring him in to take a look if it was early in the season but coming in to week 14 I think it's a bit late to bring someone new in who hasn't exactly done much this year.

This is a veteran TE on a team make a playoff push. If we used your logic about his value why would they let him go now?

What's alarming is that you think you can plug and play any player on any team, especially a player that can't stay healthy.
A decrepit, fat, drunk Shockey might be an improvement...
He is just now gotten healthy could he be any worse that
Larry D ? I mean at least he can block . Some of the guys
we pick up I have never heard of . He is more likely to
be an upgrade if he is in shape ...
He's a legit NFL TE when healthy. We have no NFL caliber TEs on our roster. Why not take a flyer and hope he's healthy? at least bring him in for a physical, especially considering our offense is in neutral.
But truth is, I have no idea if this guy can still play...but we should be looking at every possible TE on planet earth. We could desperately use someone who can block along with Tye and Adams.
I think the problem is that football doesn't work that way.
In baseball, you can acquire a guy late in the season, plug him into the lineup and he can make a big contribution. In football, a new player has to learn the offense, and the terminology, so he knows what to do and what the calls are. He needs reps with the guys he'd be playing alongside of, because the O-linemen need to have a feel for each other, but those reps are scarce in practice during a playoff push. The guys ahead of you on the depth chart are going to get more reps.
So maybe he can still play, and maybe he can block, but that doesn't mean he could step in and help the Giants. At this stage, a Larry Donnell who knows the offense, knows his teammates and knows how to work with Eli may be better for the Giants than a Brandon Pettigrew who doesn't know any of that.

Hell, using that criteria, let's sign Shockey. I think he was our leading receiver a few years back.

I think his body has just failed him...

I like Jack Doyle from Indy
26 Yrs old , no injury history , has excelled with Luck , 6'6" so big target, 267lbs so he has the weight to sustain blocks too.
Gavin Escobar would be my #2 option
He is 5 years removed from his 1 great year, which is also the last time he played more than 14 games.
He is not an upgrade
hahaha. End of thread.
That was quick.
