Thursday Night Football

joeinpa : 12/9/2016 6:47 am
Last night s match up was something to get excited about; Chiefs vs Raiders, a great rivalry returning to what it once was.

The game was a disappointment mostly because of how poorly both teams played. Was it another example of teams not being fully ready to play on such short rest. I think there is something to that.

In any case, a great Match Up for a Sunday afternoon, became a sloppily played game on another Thursday where I fell asleep and missed the end.

Thank you Mr. Commisioner.
You here it all the time

From coaches to players. Their bodies take most of the week to recover before they get to Sunday. They target Friday as the day they start to feel some normalcy. It takes them most of the week to get their bodies feeling better and ready to play on Sunday.

It's been stated so many times yet the NFL continues to play these ridiculous Thursday night games. It makes you wonder as you watch how many of those guys out on that field are playing with the mindset of just trying to survive and ride it out. Self preservation first and to hell with the outcome.
Agree,

if the teams play on Thursday, it should come after a bye, for both teams.....neither team will have an advantage....and the bye, logistically, rests the guys before the game, and gives them extra days off after the game....it's just stupid that it is not done...

Maybe. I mean if it were 45-40 we would be saying "Oh, I miss the old days when blah blah". It was kind of a sloppy game, not the best but still entertaining. Carr was definitely struggling but Oakland's defense was making plays and kept them in it.

it was a fair game. Cold weather at night. Not the best game I've seen, but certainly not the worst.
3rd and 4th downs killed Oakland all game

And that penalty on 4th & 1 killed them. Dumb play call too on 4th & 6.
I thought it was pretty good game

aside from Carr. KC looked sharp on both sides and the OAK D looked good. The 'rustiness' seemed more due to Carr playing with a dislocated pinky than anything else. Could've been a top 5 game this year if he connected on a couple of those deep passes.

Driving to work I heard both it was a good game, it was a sloppy game, narrative on the radio. Just goes to show beauty really is in eye of the beholder.

Maybe my view is skewed by my perception that the league under this commisioner will do almost anything to make a buck regardless of what it does to the game. From too many commercials, to games in London, Thursday Night games, poor officiating and wanting to add 2 more games to the schedule.

I love the Giants and am a big NFL fan. But I grew up on Sunday afternoon football and hate to see that day diluted.

Good defense is viewed many times as sloppy. KC played a tremendous defensive game. Carr was not good, but much of that was due to them not being able to run the ball or provide pass protection.

I thought it was a good defensive game

Still trying to figure out why we love Thursday games on a holiday and bitch every other Thursday. There are plenty of terrible games every Sunday afternoon as well

That s a good point. I have only recently joined the anti Thrs Night crowd.

Maybe because they are good match ups that other than the Giants I don t see the end of the game. 5 a. m. comes around quickly when you get to bed too late

Isn't it obvious? The league harps on safety then strolls 2 teams out each week on 3 days rest. If they keep TNF then its participating teams should be coming off of a BYE, its a very simple solution.

I really do enjoy TNF just for the sake of having a game on..i really feel bad for the players. Just looks like teams are just trying to get through the game during these ones. Like fuck...just get me outta here kinda thing.
Found it odd

that Oakland basically threw 2 fades back to back on 3rd and 4th down to end the game. BBI would be in full meltdown mode if that was us.
Thursday games

Is there any proof that playing Thursday games has any greater injury risk than any Sunday or Monday.

If the games suck on Sunday night or Monday night we are still bitching.

Jax, Cle, Ten, Hou on Thursday is a shitty game whether there is a week off or not

The Raiders played last night exactly like they played the 1st half the week before. Only this game they played on the road against a much better team. KC plays this type of offensive game every week

Now, I completely agree they could do this better with bye weeks. When you are showing almost every team, you are going to get bad matchups. The networks are not going to give up premier matchups for their costs
