The draft is going to be loaded at RB. That should work in the #giants favor.

95℅ chance the first pick is a DE
LakeGeorgeGiant : 12/9/2016 12:17 pm : link
WR - 4℅
Any other position - 1℅
also agree
Paulie Walnuts : 12/9/2016 12:19 pm : link
about the DE... but we'll be drafting around 15, who falls there, DE's go fast
disagree about DE (right now)
giants#1 : 12/9/2016 12:38 pm : link
It all depends on whether JPP is re-signed or not (the play of Owa/Okwara these next 4 games can also change things).

JPP re-signs - 30% chance we go DE in round 1; 90-95% chance we go DE on Day 2, unless Owa/Okwara step up.

JPP leaves - virtual lock we go DE in round 1, definitely taking one in the top 2 rounds. And that's even if Owa/Okwara look like potential starting material.
DE/WR in the first
allstarjim : 12/9/2016 12:43 pm : link
That said, if you have a game changing talent at another position at your pick it's always going to be on the table to draft him. Perhaps a slam-dunk LT, which would move Flowers to the right side.

If JPP goes, DE is a big priority, but the value has to be there, of course. If a guy like Mike Williams of Clemson was there, perhaps Juju Smith-Schuster or Courtland Sutton, I think those are guys that are potential fits for us. But this is very early in the process, and I like to get an idea of the players and where they are at, and where they would likely be drafted after the combine. I really feel the Giants need that big 'Z' receiver that can beat one-on-one consistently deep. It would make us so much better on offense. Think about what that knucklehead Martavis Bryant was able to do for Pittsburgh... the Steelers were unstoppable with a deep threat like that, that hurt teams deep as well as relieved pressure for Brown to work the field more. Can you imagine how happy Will Tye and Jerrell Adams would be running seam routes with a deep threat on one side and Odell on the other?

We can get a great RB after the first. I love Dalvin too but it's simply not a position it is wise to pay a premium draft pick on... and yes, I know some of you will say 'Zeke, and that's fine. History says there are very few 'Zekes and a lot of Trent Richardsons.

Perhaps a Foreman from Texas in the 2nd or Wayne Gallman from Clemson, who I think is going to make a great NFL running back. Ideally I would like the Giants to get a RB in the 3rd, and probably the 4th or 5th. Samaje Perine from Oklahoma or De'Veon Smith from Michigan. Lots of good running backs will be had later in the draft.

Sounds about right based on the Giants philosophy and the strength of the draft (supposed to be deep for pass rushers).

The Giants could surprise based on how the draft unfolds and where they pick. The pundits say the draft is weak at the top for OL and WR. If there's a run on pass rushers and RBs, it could be the year the Giants finally take a stud LB.

81_Great_Dane : 12/9/2016 1:21 pm : link
and I wouldn't mind a RB early. However the Giants clearly have to upgrade the line somehow, be it through veteran free agents, trade or draft. In the unlikely event they go into the draft with this same group of linemen, they're going to pretty much have to draft some.
OL options in Free Agency next year
Reb8thVA : 12/9/2016 1:23 pm : link
are not all that enticing either next year. They are probably going to have to pick an OL in the first two picks next year if they are really going to fix the OL.
I think they'll take Charlton, the Michigan DE.
yatqb : 12/9/2016 1:29 pm : link
He's a NY Giant DE is I ever saw one.

I'm hoping we get someone like John Ross
David in LA : 12/9/2016 1:38 pm : link
doesn't have ideal size, but the kid is a playmaker that can play outside.
we already have our 2017 starter in Perkins
Matt M. : 12/9/2016 1:42 pm : link
In fact, I think he should be transitioned to that role now.
How about we put Paul Perkins behind a better OL?

Like someone else said
allstarjim : 12/9/2016 2:03 pm : link
Even if you like Perkins, we are still short a good RB.

Giants must address the position. And it's not necessarily going to be for next season anyway. More for 2018. A middle round rookie is going to be a redshirt or change of pace role player more than likely. This is about getting a guy that can be a tough, between the tackles runner, or at least have that skill, as a complement to Perkins (who is a fairly well-rounded back). One guy at the position isn't going to cut it.

Is it fair to say it is loaded with defensive backs and pass rusher's? We are talking running backs but I heard tight end is deep this year too..?
We won't bring in any OL prospects better than Ereck Flowers was
est1986 : 12/9/2016 2:28 pm : link
I think we should give the kid another year at the least at either tackle spots and hopefully there is a vet FA tackle that can be an upgrade for us opposite of Flowers. Our interior has been good enough to win games. Although adding a run blocking guard would be ideal, don't know if its going to happen.

He has almost no chance of going in round 1 unless he returns to school and impresses maybe he can make the first round in 2018. I think he'll be the 6th or 7th running back taken, maybe 3rd round.
Our interior line play has not been good enough....
Reb8thVA : 12/9/2016 2:39 pm : link
Pugh and Richburg have been fine but Jerry has been atrocious in the run game and until this team can do more than run for a yard and a cloud of dust, it aint going anywhere.
I typically hate RB
ryanmkeane : 12/9/2016 2:51 pm : link
in the first round...however Cook is special. If he were to somehow drop that'd be great.
He'll be long gone

but Fournette might be the prototype NYG RB.

I'd be curious
Matt in SGS : 12/9/2016 3:27 pm : link
who is a free agent offensive lineman, or veteran avaialable via trade. I'd like to see them bring in a veteran who they can plug in on the line at tackle (and if they are a left tackle, then shift Flowers over to right tackle). And use the draft to go after TE, RB, and WR. My gut tells me that the Giants will end up with OJ Howard from Alabama.

But, that's for February to discuss.
The strength of UFA is WR
area junc : 12/9/2016 3:36 pm : link
I think the Giants target a big ticket WR (there are no OL available).
You can't force it.

I do agree we can pick up a stud TE in round 2. I'm also dropping a sleeper name as a UFA blocking TE: Jack Doyle, Colts (age 26). 6'6" 267# grunt worker who hasn't missed a game in 4 years.

What does this even mean? So what....don't address the position UNLESS?

How bout addressing any position that can and should be upgraded...if a bad ass player is sitting there for the Giants to draft....take him, be it RB, LT, OG or LB. Don't over think things.
I hope they are looking for the next Brandon Jacobs
shelovesnycsports : 12/9/2016 5:27 pm : link
because we need a big back that can pass block and smash for yards.

sign a plug and play OLineman in FA and let's draft skill players and/or disruptive players.

I want us to draft Smith just to see Dep harp on every mistake he makes, while ignoring anything positive he does.

Wherever we select we should move up and trade our 3rd round pick. Reese has a gift for selecting 3rd rounders who stink. I just looked at the list from 2007 and it isn't pretty.

For them to take one in any f the early rounds he would have to scream BAP when they were picking for them to take one.

He did have a health issue in the past (glad the kid got thru it too!)....The kid from Pitt.

James Conner RB 6-2 235 JR
Fine with drafting another RB, but only after round 1
Jimmy Googs : 12/10/2016 9:47 am : link
Highest priority will be DE if we let JPP walk.

If we retain JPP, then priorities switch to RT, TE and LB despite the Giant-thought process over the past decade of where value exists on the field.

All subject to Free Agency targets of course...
The Subject is RB in this years Draft .......
Bluesbreaker : 12/10/2016 12:07 pm : link
Fornette and Cook will be long gone IMO
I like Foremen because he is 6'1" 249 with break away speed .
Nice to pair up with Perkins ... I would have no problem
if they drafted him .

Was thinking the same thing. Taco Charlton is 6'6, 275 lbs and has tremendous athletic ability. Charlton on the strong side with Vernon on the weak would be a great combo going forward, that is assuming they don't re-sign JPP if his asking price is too high.

I'd like to see the Giants go after G Brian Winters on the Jets. He's 25 and has improved each year. He won't cost as much as Kevin Zeitler. i would also target WR Michael Floyd in Free Agency and release Cruz if he won't accept a pay cut. I'd also like to see them go after a TE in Free Agency. Jack Doyle and Vance McDonald are two guys I would target.
Ramczyk at the end of

the first would be great. Move Flowers to RT, bring on Zeitler in FA. I could run for 1k behind that line.
