Will any big, tall wideouts be available in free agency

Montreal Man : 12/14/2016 10:12 am
Basically, our guys are great but we could sure use some tall guys Eli could throw to. We might be able to grab one in the draft, but we have cap space. ANybody know of any who might be available?

are plenty of big, tall, WRs. But can they separate? If not, then you risk getting another Ramses Barden. Darius Powe was Goff's favorite target, but was still not drafted. Same for Paul McRoberts and Keyarris Garrett, who both had excellent college careers. Former Giant Geremy Davis was a sixth round pick despite his size.

Cruz is likely gone after this season. I'm OK with OBJ, SS, Lewis, King, and Powe. Add a vet FA WR, or use a day three pick. We need a TE who can stretch the seam.
Drafting one to develop and running with the others is more likely

There's a long list of UFAs on this roster they figure to want to retain.
FA WR
stretch234 : 12/14/2016 10:26 am : link
I would look at 3

Kenny Britt - yes he has age, but he can still run and get open

Coradelle Patterson - He has all sorts of tools

Michael Floyd - Another who has all sorts of tools

None of these guys are breaking the bank

I am not touching Jeffrey at all. He has basically quit playing

Any chance Cordarrelle Patterson can ever learn to play

I like Britt but he's not exactly a value guy if he gets a similar deal to what he is one.

Patterson is an awful WR.

Floyd will get paid. Maybe not what Jeffrey will make but this guy will get paid by somebody.
Kenny Britt would be a good fit

WR
stretch234 : 12/14/2016 10:56 am : link
What is expensive. Sanu and Benjamin got 6M. M. Jones got 8M.

There are 28 WR's making over 6M

I would give K. Britt a 4 year 28-32M 13-15M guaranteed

Floyd would cost more as he is 2 years younger
Like Kenny Britt

And what if you have the cap room to spend on linemen, a TE, and a WR?

PaulN : 12/14/2016 11:01 am : link
We need to resign JPP and Hankins, we need help on the offensive line, we need help at running back, we need help at tight end, we need help at free safety and possibly cornerback, we need a backup QB and we need a big physical wideout, but I doubt we are going into free agency for that player. Anyone good will cost way too much, like Britt, he will probably get about 7 mil per season, we can't pay that. We have to draft well and nail a walk on or two, and develop players. That is the must in the NFL today.

Amba Etta-Tawo - Syracuse
mavric : 12/14/2016 11:15 am : link
is 6'2, 202 lbs has had a banner year and made 3rd team AP All-American team. Should be around in the 3rd - 5th round because he did nothing prior to this year.

This past season in 12 games he had 94 receptions for 1482 yards and 14 TDs and is super fast and elusive with a nose for the end zone. He is one of five players called "on the rise" on draft boards in selected reports. CBS lists him as mid-round draft pick, but could go higher

Most WRs over 6'2 aren't as fast and many end up as TEs (IMHO)

and sign a LT as well as another one or 2 OL, a LB, a legit #1 RB and a FS plus a DE for some depth.. sign Hankins.. and figure out what to do about Pugh.. then we can worry about the WR.. Having the next great WR isn't going to help the offense is we can't protect the QB.. This isn't fantasy Football with your draft WR in the first 3 rounds theory.. We've overspent on WR already in terms of drafts and salary to Cruz..

Explain why they couldn't pay Britt 7M.

What TE out there is honestly an upgrade (Bennett is not happening) that is commanding dollars - NONE

Stop with the CB issue - the D has 3 top CB's right now - the depth will be low level guys

They are currently 32M under the cap with Cruz and Thomas providing 10M more.

They can easily resign JPP, Hankins redo Pugh contract and still get OL help

They are not going to go out and spend 50M on a G or RT. There are no FA LT. Who are you going to pay huge dollars to. Kalil, Reiff, The RT market is terrible

What G is commanding all these dollars - Zeitler, Warford, Warmack

Is Leary that good or benefiting from playing between Smith & Frederick

Floyd was also arrested yday

Maybe Whitworth on a short deal?

I'd rather give Marshall about that much for like 1-2 years, he's a better overall player.

Jack Doyle is also a solid TE in FA.
Britt makes great sense
SLIM_ : 12/14/2016 12:15 pm : link
Paterson is an interesting name as he provides speed and some big play ability. We really don't need a stud, we just need someone who can ideally stretch the field and is a physical presence.

I'd watch what the Jets do as I don't think they should pay Marshall and Decker when they have Enua in a rebuilding year. They may not be the burners but are physical and polished. Piere Garcon may be let lose also. He is smaller than he looks/plays but may be the right person.

I think we are at the point where for the first time in awhile, will be in good shape if we can sign our own guys. I don't think our offense is in awful shape. I think some solid complementary players (fullback/blocking tight end, NFL caliber starting flanker (Cruz isn't these days) will get the offense back to respectable. On defense, I think we need another pass rusher somewhere along the line/linebacker.

Kenny Britt would be a great fit
Sonic Youth : 12/14/2016 12:15 pm : link
I know in the past there were rumblings that he couldn't be too close to North Jersey as that's where his from, and he rolls with a crew that gets him in trouble. But for his sake, I hope he's old enough now that this shit doesn't matter.

Patterson is essentially a KR. Vikings haven't gotten anything out of him at WR.

I get that Floyd has tools, but save for one stretch over the second half of last year, he's been awful and a total disappointment. I really hope the Giants don't shell out big bucks for him.

Alshon would simply be a misallocation of resources.

He just turned 28 and is going to turn in a 1000 yard season with the worst QB tandem in the NFL. There is a lot of skepticism in believing he's really that good and he's probably going to be pushing for a big contract. Don't see him being a value deal, he underperformed even his current contract until this year.

I'd much rather go for Marshall on a short contract if we are going after headcase WRs.

If we are going after Rams guys I'd take Brian quick who might cost 1/4th of what Britt is going to get. He's 6'4", averages 14 yards a catch.

Do we really need help in the secondary? By all accounts Thompson looked legit in the limited time he played. The team already splurged on defense last year and if we keep JPP and Hankins there may not be more than 1 or 2 defenses that are better than this one, if that.

I agree on not committing long term to a mediocre WR. But if the Jets cut Marshall and we can get him on a 1 year deal for $6-7M it'd be hard to ignore that.

Get Doyle for maybe $4-5M a year.

Maybe sign Whitworth for a year or two to shore up LT. Spend the rest of the cap on OL depth, maybe move Flowers to RG and sign a serviceable RT.

Always draft BPA but if that's a RB, so be it (e.g. Foreman or Mccaffrey).

It'd be really hard not to be excited for the same exact defense next year and an offense with:

ODB, Marshall, Shep (year 2), Doyle and a RB trio of Foreman/Mccaffrey, Perkins and Vereen.

Plus Tye and Adams are nothing to write home about now but may project as + rotating TEs.

TEs take a while to develop and break out. Which could be a reason not to overlook Adams as a guy that can contribute sooner or later.

Not saying not to take a TE if he's good value.

I would tell him to go fuck himself for that kind of money. The Giants aren't going to spend big bucks on a #2WR when they already have Sterling Shepard in the fold as the slot receiver.

Bang for buck-wise, it just doesn't make sense to spend money in the free agent market on a receiver. The Giants can find their #2 in the draft, they just need to not wait until day three. A 2nd or 3rd round pick is the way to go.
