How are we going to outscore the Packers?

Britt in VA : 1/2/2017 10:37 am
I'm as excited as anybody, but this is probably the worst match up we could possibly have going into this weekend.

The Packers are averaging 27 points per game.
The Giants are averaging 19.4 points per game.

The Giants offense has been held under 20 points nine times this year. The Packers offense has only been held under 20 points twice.

The Packers have scored over 30 points 5 times this year, including the past four games in a row. The Giants haven't scored 30 points at all this year.

I feel like these numbers reflect exactly what played out the last time we played them, when they were supposedly in a "funk", yet they maintained a 14 point lead comfortably throughout that game.

This offense is not built to play from behind. How are we going to keep up with them? Bad match up, IMO. Not loving our chances.

GB secondary is banged up
micky : 1/2/2017 2:27 pm : link
But there were a game or two this season where the offense went up a weakened secondary due to injuries and still struggled to put up points.

Point is, with this offense, nothing is a given.
Even if we lose this game,
Dave in Hoboken : 1/2/2017 2:28 pm : link
I still consider this a very successful season. 6-10 the previous two seasons, to 11-5? That's a very successful season. Fix the offense this upcoming offseason and go into next year as legit contenders.
The same way

We shut down the number 3 offense in the league.
I really think the Giants have the best defense

offense going off on the Giants Sunday. The Giants defense has been great but are due for a clunker. It happens..it's too much to ask from this defense to carry the team.

The offense isn't going stride for stride in a 30+ point game shoot out. Unfortunately, they are hitting rogers in his "ballistic mode"

Hey the Giants exceeded a lot of expectations this year and have leaps and bounds ahead of schedule into the future. Just a bad feeling about this match up imo

Noooo...micky has a bad feeling? Ya don't say!

Mickey is absolutely a Cowboys fan. I'm convinced of it. If you followed his posts this season, it was obvious. Him and his continuous "Americas Team" posts were nauseating.

If the Giants win this game it will be with defense. A couple of things about the first game:

1. Lacy ran wild in the first matchup. I don't expect GB to have much success this time around. It is very possible Rodgers will be their leading rusher.

2. The Giants could not run the ball at all. They have been much better lately and with the emergence of Perkins I expect a much better effort.

3. Rodgers had all day to throw. Literally. There was zero pressure and he still threw 2 picks to Jenkins. I expect Spags to trust his corners to cover one on one and send more blitzes

Umm, they didn't have Apple or DRC for that game. That's a huge difference. Now we can blitz with confidence.

I'm not trying to be negative, just trying to be realistic...

The Packers have scored over 30 points in their past four games.

The Giants have not scored over 20 points in their past five games.

The Packers have only been held under 20 points two times this year. The Giants offense has been held under 20 points 9 times.

Just wondering what makes people think this offense is going to be able to flip the switch and start scoring points again. The emerging run game is promising, but only when playing with the lead. We fall behind, we're in trouble. We saw that in the last Packers game.
I'd almost be inclined to get Donnell back in there....
Britt in VA : 1/2/2017 2:45 pm : link
he's a liability, but he's also a legit threat in the middle of the field, especially against that 2 deep safety look.

I get being realistic. How many points do you think the Packers are going to score? I don't think the 30ppg stat is relevant here.
I think the bigger question for the Packers
Mike in Philly : 1/2/2017 2:48 pm : link
is how are they going to beat this Giants D. The Packers looked unstoppable last night, but consider that
1 - Detroit offered little in pass rush pressure and Rodgers had a lot of time to go through his progressions
2 - Several times the Lions lost containment and allowed Rodgers to beat them with his legs scrambling for first downs and prolonging drives
3 - Detroit missed a lot of tackles

This D is more disciplined and physical than what Detroit can bring. And they are playing on at a very high level. It will be harder, imho, for Green Bay to maintain their level of play against this D.

They scored 23 last time, so I guess I'd start there. I'm thinking we're going to need 24 to win. Something we've only done 3 times this year.

He does that to a lot of teams. He did it to us in the first matchup. It's infuriating.

That's true, but we didn't have all of our horses in the secondary for that first matchup and it's going to make a world of difference.

Britt you're saying a lot of weird stuff but the Donnell stuff takes the cake. What's with the Donnell posts around here lately???? Fuck is wrong with some of you lol... yeah let's get Donnell the ball NOW lol...great timing.

Everyone calm down with the gb stats. Stats don't win games.
What have I been saying that's weird, just out of curiosity?
Britt in VA : 1/2/2017 3:15 pm : link
?
if you're gonna post the packers points totals lately
djm : 1/2/2017 3:18 pm : link
We can just as easily post the Giants points allowed totals, which someone did, and it's downright frightening.

Throw the stats out the window. This won't be an easy game for Rodgers.

I didn't mean weird but any talk of Donnell is lunacy. Your other points weren't weird.
Miscellaneous Points: Giants must be as close to perfect as possible
SGMen : 1/2/2017 3:28 pm : link
Random points:

1. Giants must win or be equal in key Turnover Battle. Eli can't throw a stupid interception. Last year, Eli had the best 20+ yards throwing arm in the league with 11 TD's and 0 interceptions. Eli can't be stupid with the ball BUT he must go deep as well.
2. Injury Report: will the Giants have some of the injured back? Will GreenBay be without starting CB Rollins who was hospitalized? I don't see Rollins playing as it was a bad injury. Will other GB DB' be out or highly limited? This is where the game may just be decided cause the Giants have T. King, R. Lewis, OBJ and Shepard who all have deep speed.
3. Giants must RUN well, pound the rock, no fumbles while completely stuffing the Green Bay run game to make them one dimensional.

The cold will not be a major issue, I don't think. I'd have preferred for us to play at 1pm Sunday but I don't have a vote from the networks.

Go Giants, can't wait to see the injury reports. I'd love for SS N. Behre to finally get off the protocol and replace journeyman SS Eric Pinkins. The kid can hit and play specials when healthy. I think at this point is a 1% chance he goes.

Go Giants!

That's a cute assumption. Glad you don't know me in real life .. You know, when you assume..you make an ass out of yourself ..not me ;)

PS: Why would this "Cowboy fan" (rolling eyes) travel to Pitt this year and skip chemo treatments next day..in order to go see Giants..lol Got scolded by my oncologist that week.
