Veggie Burger – This is the sandwich for vegetarians and vegans; only bun plus vegetables.
Grilled Cheese ($2.35) – Bread, a couple of slices of American cheese (melted), spread, tomato, and hand-leafed lettuce.
Double Meat ($3.40) – Bun, two beef patties, tomato, spread, hand-leafed lettuce, with or without onions.
3 x 3 – Bun, three patties, tomato, spread, lettuce, three slices of American cheese, with or without onions.
4 x 4 – Bun, four beef patties, tomato, spread, hand-leafed lettuce, four slices of American cheese, onions optional.
Protein Style ($2.05) – Your burger of choice, wrapped in hand-leafed lettuce; no bun.
Animal Style – Your favorite burger with a mustard cooked beef patty, tomato, lettuce, with additional pickle and spread.
The above are just for the hamburgers. Other items include:
Condiments – Spread, hot yellow chili peppers, cold cheese
Onion styles – Raw sliced/standard, chopped; fresh or grilled
Fries ($1.60) – Light, light well, well, extra-well, animal style
Drinks – Root beer floats, Lemon-Up, lemonade and tea mix, choco-vanilla swirl shake, Neapolitan shake, large and extra large shake
You have to eat it fresh at the restaurant. The fries are kind of thin and get cold fast. If you get take out, the food seems to suffer more than most after it cools down.
I second Gene's comments. In the LA area you have to get a Tommy's chili burger. If you're going to pig out, get the chili cheese fries. Tommy's is better than In N Out IMHO.
Being the most wretched place to purchase food on the planet. Their food is absolutely deplorable and and some cases just as bad for you as themst in and out burger. I will never eat at subway for the rest of my life.
Super-clean environment; You see them preparing the food; all vegetables are cut fresh on the spot (nothing in a plastic bag) ...
Never been to an In-N-Out where I had trouble communicating what I wanted or having them not understand me. The are all very courteous and well spoken.
I've always found them overrated, but I finally discovered the secret for me: no lettuce. That helps reduce the mushy factor I've always felt they've had.
But the definition of "mush" is McDonald's slapped-together Big Mac (with the "secret" sauce), even worse are Wendy's "wet" patty burgers.
Some people don't like lettuce (that's fair), but I've always found the lettuce very crispy because it's cut off the head just a couple of minutes before it's placed on the burger.
Myself, (maybe cause I'm old) - I like an Old School type burger - Grilled buns, lettuce, tomato, pickles, raw onion with mustard.

quite a few of these places including 5 guys have that problem. the lettuce is not good quality and placed at right time and a clean burger.

I've yet to see an In-N-Out in Los Angeles that didn't have a mob of people waiting, and a line of cars in the drive-thru trailing into the street.
I can get burgers in 40 different places. Yours better be amazing if I'm going to wade through that nonsense.
To be fair, is there a burger that is?

There are other locations outside of the one in Hollywood, and even in that one that line is moving quickly.

Not really, no. But no other burger joint presents that problem.

The location in Westwood is always crazy busy. And not all UCLA students.

But only at the original location. It's clearly better than the other spots.

+1. The Glendale location is consistently pretty quick. There's also a Shake Shack across the street providing some fast food burger options.

I went to one in Vegas. No line, got my order in 10 minutes.
I agree on the fries, just terrible. They are under cooked and taste like bubblegum. Good burger though.
As for the hype comments, you have to take it in context.
Culver's is da Bomb! Shake shack is also real good!
Just had one in N Vegas and it didn't disappoint.
Gotta get the car set up proper with extra napkins and a second placemat.
Ike's in MSP is awesome for burgers. Great spot.

My go-to when on the west coast is a double double animal style, no fries.

I did a 3 by 3 animal style.
Good man. Well done.
In the car? Or at a table?

Preferred Tommy's burgers, though.
