The reasons for going after Alston Jeffries...

Blue Angel : 1/11/2017 9:51 am
First, it will prevent the Eagles from signing him, second we will potentially have the most lethal wide receiving group in the league and third if OBJ continues his antics and the Giants lose patience with him they could leave him walk on his last year or franchise him, then let him walk and we will still have a great WR in Jeffries.

A second or third tier wide out, but I can't see them going after the biggest FA WR. We don't need a #1, we need a possession #2.

Agreed overall although "Find your way back" is easily my favorite song from either iteration.

Agreed.....Reese is not going to spend as much as we think on a #2 WR. We've got bigger fish to fry and money to spend elsewhere (ie. Oline, DE, etc).
We need Jeffries badly

And I dont want any version of Cruz back. He has his comeback story, end it. He is holding the passing game back tremendously with his inability to burn anyone, or get separation. 1 timely catch a game does not help an offense. (plus his 1 timely drop every 3 targets)

last year was they went for players of need who were still on the way up. Jenkins, Vernon and Snacks were all entering their prime and were paid accordingly.

This offseason, I think you will see the Giants use their money to bring back Hankins (at age 25, they should) and will slap the Franchise tag on JPP whether he likes it or not.

That said, the need at WR for a bigger body is offset by the fact that the Giants are about to allocate a ton of money to Odell in the next year or two. I don't think it's a smart move to invest that kind of money in Jeffries, who will want his 2nd contract (usually the biggest). The Giants will need to save their money to fix the OL. And as jokingly noted above, Marshall would be a great fit with the Giants. He will come on a short term deal. If anything read his comments when he was talking about the Giants WRs in Green Bay, including a jab at the Miami thing

Quote:
Joking aside, Marshall did say the party boat and trip had nothing to do with the loss to the Packers. But it doesn't matter. Fact isn't always the deciding factor when public opinion and perception are involved. It also doesn't help, Marshall said, that Beckham and Co. play in New York.

Distractions are going to be there, warranted or not. Marshall said Beckham needs to be ready for them, especially if he's going to bring more on himself. After all, no one knows about the Miami trip if not for Snapchat videos and a photo posted on Twitter.

Hmmm...maybe a mentor for Odell that has been talked about. The Jets are in cap hell and might well be forced to cut him. I would love to see the Giants bring him in.

Good points, Matt, but I think they'll look for a more explosive WR if they decide to spend at the position. But, I'd agree spending on a WR figures to be a bit down the list, given their list of needs and pending UFAs.

Alston jefferies hasn't been good in about two years but you guys want to him. Hell the better decision would be to try and pry Terrence Williams away from the Cowboys. In my opinion Alshon is done.

I mentioned that in another thread yesterday, I think Marshall would be a great fit. A lot has been made of his antics, and understandably so, but he was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, which he says prevents him from being able to calm down after getting agitated. To his credit, he has been very open about it, even starting Project Borderline to help others identify and treat the affliction.

I seriously wonder if Odell might have a similar problem. Either way, I think Marshall could be a great mentor for Odell.

jcn56 : 1/11/2017 12:04 pm : link
but wouldn't two guys with possibly the same disorder being on the team (in the same position group, no less) at the same time be considered a bad idea?

Wants to remain in the New York area, he is willing to take a pay cut to remain with the jets, if he does shake loose, it would be possible to sign him to a lot more reasonable contract then Alshon Jeffery. I would be interested only if we could get him on the cheap, otherwise we can sign a lower level vet and use a draft pick, we have King, Beckham, and Shepard which is not a bad start, it looks to me that King would and should have been playing and for the life of me I don't know why Harris did not play more, he proved he could be a pretty decent receiver.

Marshall would look real nice in Giant Blue would be a great compliment to OBJ and cheaper than Jeffries and if you ask me better ...I know one thing he's always been a thorn in the Giants side in the regular season playing against the Giants he's had monster games go get him Jerry !
Also I said the same thing about Harris
NikkiMac : 1/11/2017 5:32 pm : link
I'm pretty sure when he chose to come here Coughlin promised him some snaps at WR and he got them and he is one tough SOB but for whatever reason stubberness by Mac maybe Sullivan ????? When I posted about Harris I was told oh he's too important in special teams BS give the guy some plays or snaps or whatever !!!!
