-I expect a win tonight (for once)
-Cousins expected to sign an extension worth 207 million with the Kings per multiple reports
-My "2nd team" for this season the Jazz knocked off the Cavs and LBJ complained about not getting calls lolz
-Isaiah Thomas is averaging 34, 5 and 3 over his last 5 games on 52% from the field, 57% from 3, wow
-Harden 40, 15 and 10, ho hum
-Whiteside 28 and 20 on 13-17 from the field
- Under the radar but Caldwell-Pope is becoming a very nice player. Surprising 40% from 3
-Is there any way we could pry McLemore on a buy low?
the fact that this os funny, is just the sad state of being a knicks fan right now
you would think if his mother was sick or someone in his family was hurt he would not of come back that quickly...
now this could just be the team.and coach atickingnup for him, but they all backed him up and said they understood, still really weird
i think in chicago he had such a good defensive team around him and great defensive coach that it hid him very well and lets be honest he probably played harder for thibs on that end. mainly because thibs let him do whatever he wanted on the offensive end...

on from Rose being MIA... I'm growing really tired of him bitching about the defense given the fact his defense has been really bad as well. He's asked about the offense then gives the defense answer every time as if he realizes that's what people want to hear.

I think you are 100% right on both counts. I don't have anything against Rose (even after this incident) but it just gets tedious seeing him "care" so much about defense and then not bringing it on the court. You are right though, both points seem valid.
No he doesn't. He doesn't fight over screens and he bails on the play as soon as the player gets the slightest step.
His defensive technique is horrible.
Quote:
but he isnt very good at it anymore. I think he sees certain players not trying.

he relies to much on the big to step up, rather than just going under the screen
Man, you have to withdraw your tongue from Rose's ass at some point.
Dep, just wanted to apologize to you for my rude comments about your NBA/NCAAB thread. I was extremely frustrated after that Packers hail mary.

Saying he isn't very good at defense is a compliment?

Any time a criticism of Rose is leveled, you effectively say that someone is worse, or someone else is causing the problem. Rose isnt good on D? Well others arent even trying.
From the games Im watching, Rose isnt trying. His backdoor is wide open.

I think Rose is just frustrated with the team's style of play, which obviously does not lend itself to defense. Rose probably even acknowledges that he's not a good defensive player but the team's style of play is just awful in my opinion. And Rose knows it. The Knicks could be a good defensive team with Rose at the helm, I firmly believe that.

Unless he learns how to play defense at the point of attack then no. It won't ever be good with Rose at the helm.
Is Phil Jackson really all in, or did he just want the money and the ego gratification of being hailed as the savior?
Is Carmelo taking the easy way out? Just putting up numbers and getting paid, knowing that he'll always be able to say that he was loyal and the Knicks just didn't put the pieces around him.
Does Derrick Rose care at all about helping the Knicks win games? Of course not. Blowing off games, bitching about playing time after a dramatic win, refusing to pass more because he wants to pads stats for free agency, etc.
The Knicks need to play guys who will play their hearts out for the team: KP, Jennings, Lance, Willy, Kuz, Holiday, O'Quinn, Baker and - on a limited basis - Noah. I think Lee gives an honest effort, but we should explore trade options there. Rose should be traded, benched or bought out. Melo trades should be explored - if he refuses to waive the no-trade, tell him he's coming off the bench.

He could lead a good defensive team if he had kawhi Leonard and Rudy gobert behind him.

I feel that way about Melo. Put him on a team with some star defenders. Hide him a bit, reduce his offensive responsibilities, play him 28 minutes. Melo's defense would be a revelation according to the media. Doesnt mean squat for the 2016 Knicks tho.
Also, Porz will have opportunities going against Illysova and Saric.
I am calling a double technical for Embiid and Noah tonight. Embiid is a passionate player and Noah will try to get under his skin.
We need to get Rose off this team and cash in Jennings, KOQ and Holiday for whatever we can get.

Essentially what the Knicks did with Allan Houston
If we sell off assets I think we will finish behind Portland, sac and Denver, the 3 teams fighting for the 8 spot in the west.
They have the Sixers, Suns and Dallas 3 of the next 9 + games against even teams like the Bulls and Hawks.
Next 15 games they play Sixers, Suns, Dallas, Bulls, Hawks (twice), Wizards twice, Lakers, Hornets
Me too. I'd want something in the late teens. Even pick 25 doesnt motivate me.
Also, I'd hang on to Willy. Of course you worry about his D, but he's a rookie Euro. Euro bigs D often lags but comes around to be competent or better (Im also convinced that good D is usually about team and scheme). Willy's per 36 stats as a Euro rookie who could use a year or two in US training are pretty good. 14.5 points, 12.1 rebounds (!), 1.3 blocks, almost a steal, 2.2 assists. 55% shooting and 69% FT. There is a LOT to work with there. Even if it is in a Kanter-like bench C role, Willy could be a real good piece here.
Sure if we can go back in time KOQ for Brogdon is a no-brainer however for every Brogdon there are 20+ others who won't have NBA careers each year. If a specific player fell to a spot where the Knicks absolutely loved them, then yeah sure I'd deal KOQ but right now without this scenario it's a major pass for me.
It was a huge mistake for so many teams to overlook him, but he's a rare bird.
Quite unfortunately no one is dying to get any players on our team except KP.
Baker is a flaming pile of garbage.
Quote:
Knicks would do with Baker what Milwaukee is doing with Brogdan. Baker is a big, strong guard, like Brogdan, who can shoot the ball pretty well and play defense, something neither of our current PG's can do.

Ok... thank you for that amazing analysis
Yet he managed to get 4 assists anyway....
Quote:
so like the bucks game for instance the offense was in melos hands and he distributed, baker played off the ball..
Yet he managed to get 4 assists anyway....
because he is a ball mover, he will always make the extra pass and he can get assists that way...
but he is not going to consistently drive and find his teammates..
but he is always going to make the extra pass and play defense

We have two guys now who drive. One doesn't care to find his teammates and the other can't finish so he HAS to find his teammates.
Look... I am not saying he's going to be a great player, but compared to the guys on the roster let me see if this kid who has defied the odds at every level can be a player. Even if it's someone like a Dellavedova type. I'd rather see that then watch a player who's clearly in it for the money only.
i think he is perfect next to jennings...
holiday has kind of soured for me a little bit
It's sad it's gotten to a point where fans want to see Baker, Plumlee and Kuz on the floor.
in reality it will be jennings holiday lance kp oquinn
It's sad it's gotten to a point where fans want to see Baker, Plumlee and Kuz on the floor.
Kuz is a seasoned European player. It's not sad we want to see him. He can contribute lol

But Baker went undrafted for a reason. Jeremy Lin is like the greatest undrafted player of all time and he's a replacement level PG.

Yeah I guess if we are still trying to "compete". And like how Dan alluded to, given our schedule we might still be in the playoff hunt over the next month or so even though we clearly can't compete with any relevant teams save the Bucks. It's silly that schedule is probably going to dictate the direction of the team. It's desperate that they are going to look past disciplining Rose for his actions just to get in a spot to get swept by the Cavs, raptors or Celtics.
But if someone calls up offering a couple of 2nd rounders for Kuz or a first rounder with him in a package of other players would anyone really hesitate?
I don't think anyone has said we need to see more Plumlee lol
Well that's the reason he'd carry trade value no?
This is all hypothetical assuming we get rid of rose mid season but I still don't buy that phil would just sell off assets regardless of how bad this team is. But in a scenario that rose is unloaded you'd assume guys like Kuz/Oquinn (maybe even Holiday) would carry value because they are cheap and cost controlled.
Quote:
he is signed for 3 years and is only 27 years old, he can be a rotation player on a very cheap deal

even if you trade rose and melo, i am not trading kuz or oquinn...
these guys are cheap rotation players
If rose is getting shipped then everyone save KP is on the table for a price. Even Willy. Although it have to be a damned good offer because he's the only guy on the team that will be useful in KP's prime. Guy has skills.
Hmm idk even that. If Boston offers the nets pick sure I'd give up Willy but if we're dealing away Rose, Melo and the rest of the farm then idc much for Noah's contract. What, is Noah going to keep us from tanking? Yeah, right. I like Willy. I'd only deal him for a top 10 pick, which no one would offer for him anyways.
Quote:
is the only untouchable for me and it's not particularly close. Willy would be #2 but if the Twolves said they would take Noah's contract but needed Willy to do it... see ya boss. Otherwise there are guys I'd deal but it would depend on the return. A 2nd for Kuz or KOQ doesn't make sense to me.

I expect Melo to finish out his contract here. Rose will likely just be allowed to walk. Melo/KP/Lee etc will make the Knicks just "good" enough to never be truly awful. I like Willy but I'm not crying if we deal him. Porzingis dealt and I'm done with the Knicks. Zero issue dealing KOQ or Kuz if the value is right, neither is going to come back and haunt us. Yeah their contracts have value, but they are what they are. Solid extra players.

I'm not crying if we deal Willy but if it's for the right price. Getting rid of Noah just doesn't seem like the right price for me. If he's another Enes Kanter you got a solid 6th man you can give 25 minutes a game on a good team. But if he's not getting you back someone you can pair with KP in 4-5 years then the value isn't right for me. Maybe I'm overvaluing him but the dude has legit NBA skills.
Other trades I imagine that need salary filler to make work are Rose + NDour for Brandon Knight + PJ Tucker (in this scenario, the Suns save a bunch of $) or Rose + Ndour for Darren Colison + Garret Temple + Omari Casspi.
In any event, I dont move Willy to free a contract until we actually need the cap space. We've made this mistake before -- moved assets to clear cap space that we didnt end up needing.
PG Knight- (12.6, 13.6, 14.6, 15.6)
SG Lee (11.7, 12.5, 12.7)
SF Melo
PF KP
C Noah (17.8, 18.5, 19.3)
with Knight, Lee, Noah the next 3 and Knight the next 4.
what PGs do you see as viable options besides Holiday?
what PGs do you see as viable options besides Holiday?
Lonzo Ball
Markelle Fultz
Dennis Smith
De'aron Fox
The French dude
Curry (yeah right), Paul, Lowry, Smart (restricted), Rondo, Livingston, Hill,
I read it as more of a speculation
i really think its either homesick or missing his kid
There's plenty of basis. For starters, he's on the Knicks. Playing for the Knicks...shit he might as well just take bat shit crazy pills. Rose is turning into Marbury before our very eyes.

More minutes and shots for Grant and Lopez. And with the way the Knicks have defended, they are going to look like legitimate starters!
Rebuilding crap has been going on for ever.
Phil, Melo, Rose, Noah - these guys are rich beyond our wildest dreams and as of late they are terrible at their jobs.
Kenny: (awkward pause)..."Ben Simmons.."
covington and embiid are probably their 2 most talented offensive guys, why no two man game with them?
Hence teams like Philly and Minnesota's records are worse than their talent suggests it should be. Because so far they lack the "closer" talent.
Also Im not following the Sixers, but if Okafor is physically able to play, it is criminal that he is not out there in 3 of 4 games.
and why is kp not playing?
he banked it in
Liar
God this organization sucks.
Criticizing melo for the sake of criticizing Melo. He was denying the baseline, well. It was a turnaround step back jumper with a bit of a push off to boot.
i can blame the coach when he has lance thomas in the game and kp on the bench and then decides to put him in cold
The man picked to go with Lance Thomas over his 2nd leading scorer in the 4th quarter of a close game and you state 'you can't blame the coach'? Interesting.
God this organization sucks.
Jamal Crawford? David Lee's tip-in? Ummm. JR Smith? Fuck if I know.
The shot was easily on time. Put it up with at least half a second on the clock.
Quote:

Melo played as much defense on that possession as the last guy on the bencj. Jennings picked up Henderson and Melo picked up Mcconnell. McConnell dribbled out and took a turn around jumper and Melo stood and watched. Defend him all you want, but thats melo's defense in a nutshell. That was his guy and no one elses.
it is absolute joke...
Listening on the Sixers broadcast and they were amazed and said they would take that match up.

like that. Years. I'm just used to our buzzer beaters being a hundredth of a second too late (Amare, KP).

LOL, JR Smiff's buzzer beater was beastly. I remember that...what's that, 4 years ago?
and this is the same team that talked about bringing the 90s knicks back, these players dont deserve to hold ewing and the rest of those knicks jocks..
this team just needs to stop talking because thats all they do is talk
If season ended today, Knicks would pick 12th in the draft
I mean that's just cruel. Totally cruel. Obviously we have a lot more losing to do but 12th? After this debacle of a season? And this debacle of a history?
Must've mentally blocked that out
i think he plays kuz just to appease the fans because literally as sokn as he misses a shot lance thomas is in..

knicks will en with the 8th seed and get swept by cleveland
At least I had the Ewing years when I was in high school. Didn't win shit because of MJ but at least it was fun to watch.
Lance Thomas plays because he tries to defend, nothing more, nothing less.
Especially when Rose's son wasn't in Chicago...he was in Punta Cana
Of course knowing the Knicks, they'd probably use that money to give Rose the max...
instead he just stands there
Lance Thomas plays because he tries to defend, nothing more, nothing less.
Agreed. Players had a few chances to finish and they blew it. Melo and KP blew it
(Although, it's a sad day in Knick Land when Melo is getting taken off the dribble by Ilyasova.)
Watch carefully, I thought Noah got away with a lot of hacks on Embiid. The officials were kind to him in this game. Fast athletic big man get to the basket so easy on him now.
Agreed. What's the worst that can happen? If we win, we lose. If we lose, we win.
Time to watch some Justin Jackson, Malik Monk, D'Aaron Fox, Dennis Smith Jr. and lots of others.

Yeah, he was injured
I have zero interest in watching him play on the Knicks. I hope Phil continues to rip him in the media so he then decides he'll waive his no trade to get out.
I would trade him for anything at this point, best offer regardless of what it is. He's a loser
Yet there were people defending his defense on this thread alone. Talking about how he stopped a shitty PG from going baseline. He made no effort to get physical. He made no effort contesting. He just stood and watched the spin move for a turnaround shot.
Again, Melo doesnt even try on defense. Then of course he didnt get the last shot either so I am sure he was pissed about that too.
Great game from Rose though. Really carried them in the 4th. Until Melo got involved.
Ooof...I don't know how to tell you this...but the Knicks ARENT tanking her.
This IS the competitive team with all of the "upside" you saw eye to eye with Phil in the offseason.
Sorry?
