New York Giants 2017 Free Agency Scorecard - ( New Window )
My take..
est1986 : 1/11/2017 11:40 am : link
•QB Ryan Nassib - done
•QB Josh Johnson - done
•RB Bobby Rainey - done
•TE Larry Donnell - done
•OT Will Beatty - done
•OT/OG Marshall Newhouse - re-sign as depth
•OG John Jerry - re-sign as depth
•DE Jason Pierre-Paul - re-sign
•DT Johnathan Hankins - re-sign
•LB Keenan Robinson - done
•LB Kelvin Sheppard - done
•LB Mark Herzlich - done
•CB/S Leon Hall - re-sign as depth
•CB Trevin Wade - re-sign as depth
•CB Coty Sensabaugh - done
•PK Robbie Gould - re-sign
•LS Zak DeOssie - done

Cut Cruz, Jennings, Harris, JT Thomas & maybe Casillas. re-negotiate with Pugh (extension) and maybe even DRC and or Eli.

And focus on drafting the BPA at OL, LB and WR with your first three or four picks.

Do the best you can in FA, can't expect to hit the jack pot in FA like we did a year ago.
do we really need

to see Wade back in a giants uniform? we can do better.
I hope they resign Robinson

he was excellent.
Here is my take
Rjanyg : 1/11/2017 12:45 pm : link
•QB Ryan Nassib re-sign 1 year
•QB Josh Johnson gone
•RB Bobby Rainey gone
•TE Larry Donnell really gone
•OT Will Beatty gone
•OT/OG Marshall Newhouse re-sign 1 year
•OG John Jerry gone
•DE Jason Pierre-Paul re-sign 4 years
•DT Johnathan Hankins re-sign 4 years
•LB Keenan Robinson re-sign 3 years
•LB Kelvin Sheppard gone
•LB Mark Herzlich gone ( but somehow they keep him lol )
•CB/S Leon Hall re-sign 1 year
•CB Trevin Wade gone
•CB Coty Sensabaugh re-sign 1 year
•PK Robbie Gould on the fence: I would try to upgrade if possible
•LS Zak DeOssie re-sign 1 year

Why would Ryan Nassib
David B. : 1/11/2017 1:06 pm : link
even consider re-signing with the Giants. Presumably he thinks he could compete for a starting job somewhere? He's likely mistaken, but he probably doesn't consider himself a "career backup" just yet.

Just please -- no more Larry Donnell!

Good point but I am going on what I would try to do. There is a good chance the Giants move on and look to the draft for Eli's back up/ replacement. I would be ok bringing Nassib back for another year.
I'm not
David B. : 1/11/2017 1:20 pm : link
He's looked AWFUL every time he's ever played. Even with the 1s in preseason.

Ah, the annual get rid of Zak DeOssie post. A reliable long snapper who gets downfield on coverage better than almost anyone other than the gunners. Who needs that on their team?
Nassib is likely gone
BlackLight : 1/11/2017 1:37 pm : link
The team is going be on the hunt for Eli's eventual replacement.

Why?
Somehow I picture Nassib
GiantsRage2007 : 1/11/2017 2:21 pm : link
heading to Jax as a backup to reunite with Marrone from SU and Coughlin from NY

I think we draft a qb late for our backup - maybe Kelly's nephew if he drops to rd 4/5... yea, he's a headcase with a torn acl, but he's got an arm.
Zak Deossie
spike : 1/11/2017 2:23 pm : link
will be here as long as Eli. Reliable long Snappers are hard to find..

Hello Trey Junkin!
Keep Deossie as well
Chip : 1/11/2017 2:31 pm : link
Makes no sense to let him go. JPP and Hankins will depend on asking price and how much it takes to fix the OL. We may not have the money if we have to pay JPP like Vernon and Hankins close to Harrison money. Escobar and Leary would look good in Blue and might be less money than Hankins. I am sure there are other OL than Leary who might be better.
Keenan Robinson
Giants86 : 1/11/2017 2:54 pm : link
is a keeper in my opinion. And Wade while bad this past Sunday, has been ok as a backup. I would consider resigning him.
Cutting Deossie makes no sense
Patrick77 : 1/11/2017 3:53 pm : link
It also makes no sense to me how every team has a dedicated LS who normally does absolutely nothing else of value for the team. You'd think you could teach a 4th TE and a backup linebacker this skill and be set.

It is pretty apparent that fans like myself must severely underate how hard the job is or how much continuity is needed to make long snaps go off without a hitch.
Have We Finally Seen the Last of Mr. Tumble Fumble
Suburbanites : 1/11/2017 4:09 pm : link
In 30+ years of devouring this team I've never had a player who pissed me off more than Leaping Larry Donnell. How the hell has this guy lasted this long? An orgy of missed blocks, missed assignments, head first dives into defenders, drive killing fumbles and penalties and my favorite, absolute last second drops. You know when he defies the odds and does everything correct hauling in a pass and then at the absolute last nano second, whoops he drops the damn ball. UGH!!!! Let this guy be gone already.

I find no problem resigning him. He's been serviceable.
It surprises me how often DeOssie makes a tackle.
CT Charlie : 1/11/2017 4:44 pm : link
I'm sure most teams would keep a special teams veteran unless the price is outrageous.
You name a lot of JAGs but they have value and add depth
Ivan15 : 1/11/2017 5:17 pm : link
if they have low cost contracts, are versatile, know their assignments and would cost more to replace.

QB Johnson, Newhouse, Jerry, Jones, sensabaugh, Wynne, Hall, Harris are keepers now because they create competition and are easy cuts at the end of the preseason, if someone younger or better is found.u
FA
stretch234 : 1/11/2017 5:29 pm : link
I think JPP, Hankins, Robinson, and 1 of either Newhouse or Jerry get re-signed. Most likely Newhouse because he can play T. Wade is a restricted FA and realistically, he is a 4th or 5th best CB - every single NFL team says the same thing - they can do better - reality is you can't. I try to resign Hall.

Deossie & Herzlich are not going anywhere - they are cheap and good special teams players and good in the locker room

I am not resigning

Donnell
Sheppard
Sensabaugh
Beatty
Rainey
Johnson

I think they will look elsewhere for a K

I am moving on from Cruz, Thomas, Jennings and maybe Harris if he is not healthy

I give Pugh his deal, I try to extend DRC and restructure Vereen.

If we cut/don't sign that many players, just how the holy f**k do you plan on fielding a team? Are we going to sign 10+ FAs, all of whom are better than those you cut, and hope we hit gold in all of our draft picks?

JFC.........

Hank is not getting or even sniffing Snacks money.
some of you make no
louied7535 : 1/11/2017 8:01 pm : link
sense.regardless of how bad the offense was the giants won 11 games and made the playoffs so there wont be much turnover. the had good players and a lot of good depth otherwise the wouldnt have won 11 games. sure there need to be improvements but not many. in my opinion, 2 olmen, and a decent te need to be brought in. i would give cruz another offseason and camp to recover and if he doesnt show more burst then you cut him but dont forget many people coming off a major injury need a full year. on defense resign jpp and hank and that is priority number 1.
Whatever we do in the 2017 off-season, I just hope the decisions are
SGMen : 1/11/2017 10:06 pm : link
as good as those in the 2016 off-season.

I truly believe acquired up to 10 potential starters our of this group of 11:

Eli Apple
S. Shepard
D. Thompson and Adams (FS)
B. Goodson
P. Perkins
J. Adams (TE)
Snacks, Jenkins, Vernon, Robinson (may take over MLB or WLB with his speed and knowledge of defense ??).

Lets kicks ass this off-season. Also, I'm in the "overspend" for guys camp. Eli has a very short window at his age so I say protect him as best you can.
Zak DeOssie

Stay's until he can't walk, end of conversation.
Although I think
RetroJint : 1/12/2017 6:59 am : link
they won't re-sign Jerry & Sheppard & they will cut Jennings, I want to express appreciation to these 3 for their sense of professionalism. It's obvious they are universally respected by the coaches and players. They are good men. They are good teammates, which is all Mickey Msntle wanted written on his memorial stone .

In another generation, they would be Bill Currier, Pete Shaw or Dee Hardison. They held the fort until more talented guys came along . They were bridge players. But they started on an 11-5 team. I wish them the best .
