Would Steve Smith make a good WRs coach?

LCtheINTMachine : 1/11/2017 11:15 am
One of the most passionate players in the league for sure. Look how hard it was him to take the uniform off. I know he has detractors but a guy that plays that long has to be a good influence. He loves the game for sure. Do you think he'd make a decent WR coach, especially for us?
Joey Porter had a lengthy career as well

and now he's sitting at home while his players/team are still in the playoffs. I do not see a coach out of Steve Smith.
It was tough for OJ Simpson to take his uniform off too.

So what?
Can't see it happening
nyjuggernaut2 : 1/11/2017 11:32 am : link
coaches put in way more hours than the players do, and the reason Smith walked away is because he said he wants to spend more time with his wife and kids.
Not sure about a coach

but he'd be a great mentor. I think OBJ would be much more likely to reach his true potential if a guy like Smith helped him harness his passion for the game and use it more to his advantage. If I was Giants front office, I would pay a great deal for that!
Absolutely

Not
Great idea

Maybe in about 10 years

.
Not a coach
SomeFan : 1/11/2017 12:50 pm : link
but I think he needs his own sit-com.
Just so I am clear

You want Steve Smith to be the guy in the ear of Odell Beckham everyday. The guy who punched his teammate in the face.

Yes that will surely speed along the maturity of the guy.

Only on BBI
So you're criteria for a coach would be "He loves the game"?

Then most of the guys on this board could be a WR coach!

Think before you post.
He's a passionate man and sometimes

shit happens.
I can't imagine the criteria for a position coach is terribly high

What were gilbride's kid's qualifications? SS Trumps that by far.
I don't see...

any indication that he would be interested. But the Ravens or Panthers would be smart to add him to their front office in some kind of role. The Eagles just did this with Dawkins. Gives players a former star they can relate to.

Same thing the Giants have done with Jessie Armstead.

This and he may be the player who can relate best to Odell. We tried the LSU coach and it obviously didn't work. I have to believe Smith as a coach would be able to impart some wisdom - I certainly hope Odell has the career of a Steve Smith. I don't think this is too crazy an idea.
IMO
mrvax : 1/11/2017 1:47 pm : link
He's certainly worth a shot. He knows so much about separation, route running, and blocking that he could be an outstanding coach.

But- some people aren't good at teaching.

You act like the fact Smith did that is meaningful? We had a kicker who abused his wife and a tackle who shoved a reporter - neither of them are going to the Hall of Fame. Smith is.

We are at a critical point with this talent and a guy like Smith may be able to reach Odell in ways that others have failed. I think it could work.
I think you have the Steve Smiths mixed up
SHO'NUFF : 1/11/2017 10:13 pm : link
wasn't it Steve Smith from the Giants that punched his own teammate at USC?

Are we talking Carolina Steve Smith or Giants Steve Smith for coach?

Steve Smith of the Pantehers sucker punched his teammate. He's an asshole

He
not all players make good coaches
blueblood : 1/11/2017 10:18 pm : link
and in all honesty most players dont want to coach.. Top players have made MILLIONS of dollars.. why in the world would they want to become a coach... people who regularly put in 16-18 hours a day during the season.. and be paid LESS...

I absolutely hate Steve Smith
Glover : 1/12/2017 8:55 pm : link
the guy got into a fight on every play and punched out, was it 3 teammates? Broke one's jaw, basically ending his career. Great guy.
People shit on TO and this guy is so loved.
FUCK STEVE SMITH.
