NFT: Food help near MSG!

Joey in VA : 1/11/2017 12:53 pm
Heading to the Garden tomorrow night to finally see the Knicks at MSG (bad year to pick, I know) and was curious as to what places are decent to eat near there prior to or after the game. I will literally eat anything, which is why I am so fat, all suggestions appreciated kids!
Bad year to pick?

Maybe if you own a time machine.

What did you have in mind? My favorite is Keens not to far off, but that's good for either a good steak on the steakhouse side or bar food (including awesome burger) on the other.
I mean

are you looking for a sit down restaurant? Fast casual? food truck?

Not sure what we're doing before or after so it could be food truck to sit down.

a regular bar with smoking hot bartenders, go to The Blarney Stone on 31st and 8th. You won't be disappointed and it's right next door.
Sbarro's

It's the only way to go!
I enjoy Stout

33rd between 6th and 7th, in shadows of MSG. Good bar, lots of TVs, food is fine and good selection of beer.
When is it a good year

is Brother Jimmy's. Chain BBQ (I think it's considered a chain now) in NYC is normally not a huge selling point, but it's actually pretty good, good atmosphere, affordable, and not much more convenient than that.

Go to Koreatown
SchindlersFist : 1/11/2017 1:48 pm : link
I'm guessing there isn't great Korean in VA

Couldn't disagree more - their sauce is way too sweet. They have a really good selection of interesting pies, but that's their biggest strength, IMO. I'd just as soon have Rose's if I'm staying in the Penn Plaza area, or walk a few blocks to Waldy's.
On 6th btw 29th and 30th, the hotel eventi has some very nice

restaurants (on the street, you don't have to go through the hotel to get to them). Lupolo (on 29th) is portugese and L'Amico on 30th is italian. I recommend both.

L'Amico review

A reservation is probably a good idea for either.

you could literally shut your eyes and point to any place that isn't a national chain and you will be in good shape.

Unless of course you pick a place that violates every health code law under the sun. Just don't pick that place.
I agree with the Blarney stone...

right by MSG is a good pre-game place to grab some food and beverages.

Or you can go to the Hooters on 33rd :)

Oh I know, I've been plenty I just like personal recommendations, they usually seem better than annoying site recommendations.

I know it has a bit of a following. I just find their sauce off-putting.
Lugo cafe - 33rd between 7 and 8
hitdog42 : 1/11/2017 7:40 pm : link
Right next to garden - good Italian food and you could also just get appetizers and pizza instead of sitting down- and have drinks

Lugo is a good call - decent wine list too.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Pennsy yet.

Well gee, it's great that he was the first one to come up with that. Of course he isn't on this thread so who gives a fuck.
