With Wade Phillips taking over as DC for the LA Rams, it opens up an intriguing purely hypothetical trade scenario (however unlikely).
Would you trade WR Odell Beckham to the Rams for DT Aaron Donald straight up?
Aaron Donald is a pure 4-3 3-tech DT and is not a ideal fit for Phillips 3-4 schemes. The Rams need offensive weapons badly and have limited resources. Plus Beckham would really excite their new Los Angeles fan base (as well as helping to get a leg up on the Chargers). I also think Beckham would be well suited to LA.
From our point of view, Beckham has become something of an off field distraction (despite best intentions otherwise) plus we have Hankins coming off contract. Donald would certainly add another dimension to our pass rush.
Looking at overthecap.com, it seems there would be minimal cap impact for either team.
I know both teams like their respective players and are very happy to keep them. But it does seem like there is also an opportunity for each team to significantly improve there plans going forward.
I am curious to see what people think (and possibly start some interesting discussion in an otherwise slow period)
Frick'n chaos
For JJ Watt and D'Andre Hopkins
I'll say what I'd said elsewhere. Any Giants fan who advocates this is a f***ing moron. And member of the organization needs to be fired and blackballed from the sport. Any news analyst who advocates this needs to be fired.
Add in the 30 year old coach and, good lord.
Well, the good thing is that we'll be getting the better bargain.
Why?
Not everyone in the world is in love with OBJ. He is the DIVA we make fun of on other teams. There are plenty of Giants fans (10-15% probably) who don't like his act at all and would love to see him go. They are not bad fans....they just don't like the guy.
He's not the best WR in the league. Donald may be the best DT.
The Giants don't own Antonio Brown.
Then we trade Okwara for JJ Watt and Wynn for Von Miller and JT Thomas for Andrew Luck.
See? Way better idea.

Once again. Do research. Donald in Phillips' D is gonna be great.

Oh for fucks sake. What does Brown have to do with anything? I knew somebody would chime in with that. I know Brown makes your vagina moist, but I'm not having that argument today. It's off topic.
My point is that the Giants gave an elite receiver. They arent going to trade him for a DT.
allow me to rephrase:
The Giants don't own Julio Jones.

Yeah, I'd put Beckham third.

the Rams would bring in Phillips when Donald might be the best #3 in the league.

Late night and not all here this morn. It could work. Still wrapping my head around a 30 yr old and now Wade, who could be the kid's Grandfather, and now a change in scheme. Donald likely is going to kick out a bit. Have to wonder altering from the #3 is the best idea. We will see.
AD was my pick in 2014. OBJ wasn't on my short list. That said, my answer would be a resounding NO. Our offense is shitty enough that the Giants cannot afford even the slightest downgrade at any position.
Robbie: Me no research. What can you tell us about Phillips use of a 3 tech DT? Would AD move to DE? Or would AD become an ILB?

Yeah, I'd put Beckham third.
And IMO, you'd be correct at this time.
Lets also think logically. Does anybody think that Wade is going to take his best player and minimize his value by eating up block? Is he going to ask him to do a job that isn't going to get the most out of him? Donald is a beast but is undersized. Why would he want him two-gapping. His best attribute is his burst. I think I will give Wade a little credit and say he will design his system where he will take advantage of arguably the best disruptive DT in the game.
The one linked below is just an article but gets the point across.
“We try to fit what the players can do in the defense rather than saying, ‘OK, we’re a 4-3 or we’re a two-gap 3-4,’ ” Phillips said. “We’re a team where if a guy can stunt and rush the passer, we let him do that. If a guy is a power guy, we try to let him be that. It’s all what individual players can do.”

But could they get 3 pts?
I likely opulent do it b/c the offense needs him yet Aaron Donald is pretty awesome and watching defense destroy offense is a lot of fun.
As far as OBJ, i think we need to temper this hype he's a one in a lifetime talent.
From the Rams' perspective, a team that just hired a stellar defensive coordinator would give up the best player on its defense.
Lose-lose! Why not?
Edit button??????
He is setting records at a phenomenal rate. He has been a great team player (the 'Josh Norman Game' vs the panthers is excusable after witnessing what a douche Norman is). He is passionate and he is committed. If the Giants traded him they better get an entire offensive unit (as he has basically been that for the last 2 and a half years) or move to LA with the Chargers.
The big question will be how will Beckham respond, will he adjust his behaviour? Or is he likely to become another Terrell Owens, Brandon Marshall etc. At this stage either is a very real possibility. Ultimately it will come down to a business decision, and that will come back to Beckham. The fact that Jerry Reese came out strongly after the season regarding Beckham is a sign that patience for Beckham’s antics are running thin. We shouldn’t forget that Reese traded Jeremy Shockey and we had our 2008 season derailed by Plaxico Burress.
The big question will be how would we replace Beckham is he was to be traded? This year’s Lions have shown that an offence can thrive after Calvin Johnson is gone. There is likely talent available in free agency with players like Alshon Jeffrey, Larry Fitzgerald, Terrelle Pryor, Pierre Garcon and co scheduled to his the open market. There is also very good depth of talent in this year’s draft class. Plus there would be whatever players and resources that would arise from the trade. Life could go on.
Have no doubt, plan A is to have Odell Beckham without off-field drama as a Giant. If that doesn’t happen (and I have my personal reservations but remain cautiously optimistic), then all options should be on the table, including potential trades.
OBJ for Donald/Gurley. I wouldn't do it, but the Rams might (since they are trying to sell seats).
The idea was we would have Donald cheap for two years (with fifth year option). We majorly upgrade our defence and open up resources to address other positions (OL, RB,WR etc). Donald and Harrison would be monsters inside and with Pierre-Paul and Vernon on the outside downright nasty.
I am not sure that is the right potential deal but would be interesting.
But he's a distraction because of some sensationalized media cycle? Ok. Go ahead and ask the guys in the locker room if Odell distracted them from being better players.
FYI. Terrell Owens is one of the best WRs in the history of football and was apart of multiple winning programs. Using his name pejoratively is outrageous; the Eagles (stupidly) phased him out because of McNabb's immaturity. And they were much much better with T.O. onboard.
Ooh we can sign another wide receiver to replace Beckham?? Sick. We can also keep our current DTs and not ever need Aaron Donald.
W T F is wrong with these people !!! We are not trading OBJ!!!!!
