one thing you can judge position coaches by is what he got out of the players he was given; how they develop and what they contribute.
Gilbride Jr has been the TE coach since 2014.
Has Larry Donnell developed as a player since his rookie year? Was there any improvement from Will Tye from year 1 to year 2? You could say Donnell has gotten worse, and Tye has basically remained unchanged.
I would argue that the best contributions from TE since 2014 were Daniel Fells, and he was a veteran who could already play.
TTH, no one on BBI knows whether Gilbride Jr. is a great coach Â
or not. We can look at players, but how many would have even predicted that Tye would stick on the roster, or that the other UDFA you mention, Donnell, would even be on the team after last year. It's not like he had prime rib to work with here.
And I think it's the same for any position coach. Coordinators are more able to be scrutinized for schemes, but position coaches are more invisible than that, imo.

I don't totally disagree with you, but you don't need prime rib type talent to be able to block effectively when you're donnell's size, or learn to secure the football after the catch, and that's definitely on coaching to me.
Why is scouting so important? You have no clue if Gilbride is a good coach or an idiot. I doubt Mcadoo would have him on the staff if wasn't a good coach.

I don't think that's coaching. I just think Larry Donnell is a lazy football player. He played well in 2014 and he just hasn't improved at all. He's a loser. If Tye had Donnell's ability and Larry had Tye's "want to" I'd be okay with that.
But they don't.
Regardless, it's very hard to make chicken salad out of chicken shit.
aside from the perceived nepotism? he hasn't been great at any of the positions he held with the Giants. where was the quality control under his watch? the TE group leave a lot to be desired and look worse in each passing year.
I wonder if they will make Fewell work from the bench this time? Â
After the TC hire that Marrone would have 1 year to make the playoffs and then TC would can him and assume the HC duties. By the looks of thing shaping up down there it would seem he is already assembling his staff for when that happens.
I love TC but I don’t see this ending well for him nor the organization.
till Jacksonville kicks ass next year. Maybe including ours.
Well, as awful as they were the last time we played them with TC still at the helm, they did manage to beat us.
Not just with Tom at the helm, the 2014 season they managed 3 wins for the season. Of course, one of the wins came at our expense. Overall, the series is tied at 3-3. Giants vs. Jags overall record. - ( New Window )
