In listening to Ryan Clark on the radio this morning I was struck by something that he said.
To paraphrase Ryan (he was referring to how the remaining teams in the playoffs will offensive game plan)
“teams will offensive game plan based upon what the defense is playing. If they are playing against a (2) deep zone that is set upon taking away the big play; then the teams will force the defense to commit to one side by bunching receivers, the offense will create mismatches by changing personnel, they will introduce pre-snap movement to confuse the defense, and they run patterns that stretch the field horizontally ".

The ability for the offense to be more creative in how they attack defenses must be the Giants priority for next year.
Having proper personnel (upgrade in OL, TE, #2 WR, FB) will help, but the coaching needs to do its part too.
I'm a bit optimistic though. They're obviously a lot of parts already on the roster that will help
(B) they did not have great options for creating mismatches in the receiving game. Mismatches require skill players who can take advantage of a size or speed advantage. With Cruz, Jennings, and Tye (all sub part at their respective positions) in base sets they could not exploit defensive personnel
When they have better personnel, they will let get more creative
I too think the loss of Vareen hurt.. so add in our pass catching RB and a TE who can stretch the field, and some OL help to protect so Eli can let the receivers get downfield further and we will score more? I'm game.
Absolutely. They constantly change things up. Put a different twist on the same plays. I'l1 say it 100 times on a Sunday watching other team "why don't we run plays like this". It feels like the Giants have 4 plays in their playbook.
Or was the poor play calling and game planning on McAdoo?
As for the personel.Reese has to do for the offense this year what he did for the defense last year.
The offense needs an overhaul and a personality.
The Giants have to build the offense from the inside out.
They need a new line and TE.
I'll add to that... I want an OC from the Holmgren/McCarthy lineage, who conceptually understands what McAdoo is trying to run. We are not going to scrap the WCO with McAdoo at the helm, especially after more successful implementations in 2014/2015. We also have to have the personnel (a TE and running game) to make it work.
Norv Turner is an Air Coryell disciple... the last thing we need are conflicting offensive philosophies in the same staff.
