Moving Up in the Draft

Samiam : 1/17/2017 10:53 pm
I've seen so many mocks that have Denver taking an OT at the 20th pick. What would it cost the Giants to move up ahead to the 18th or 19th pick?
I would think a 3rd.

Though I have not checked the chart. To go from 23-19...I'd think a 3rd.
I would hope we don't move up because there are some studs

that will be available during our pick and after. From what I saw in my limited viewing of the Wisconsin kid I like his game. However, with the hip injury I hope we don't give up anything in addition to get him. Let him fall to us. If not then we could get another quality player such as a DE, TE, or WR just because it seems to be where the value is. Giving up a 3rd or 4th pick could mean giving up a quality RB type of player. Be patient and let the draft fall to us. We will get a quality player.

I should use this post when someone invariably posts how we should trade down and stockpile picks. If we wouldn't trade up, why would another team do so with the Giants?
I'm against using another first round pick on the OL.

Even if we pick a good one, he will struggle in his first year. Sign a stopgap free agent while we work with the high picks we already have.
We don't generally move up, but when we do

Depends, but I wouldn't move up for Ramczyk or Robinson
Anakim : 1/18/2017 9:27 am : link
Ramczyk with his injury is too risky, IMO. I'd probably take him at 23, but I wouldn't trade up for him.

I'm not that high on Cam Robinson.

Guys I WOULD trade up for are Mike Williams and Corey Davis
Unless an OT they have graded highly is within range

Stay put. This is a strong draft at every position. A good player will be there at 23.
Unless there is a strong conviction on a player

you stay put. You move down if a position is deep and you have a lot of equal options still on the board.

What drives me nuts are the posters who just want to trade down to trade down and have more picks. Without understanding who is still available, that approach makes no sense.
This is a weak draft class for

QBs and OTs (maybe OGs). I don't see any of the OL worth giving up picks for. But if the team chooses, there are formulas that give you an idea of the value of each slot.
Leonard Floyd was the guy Reese wanted
Rjanyg : 1/18/2017 12:59 pm : link
and Chicago traded up in front of us and stole him. While I like Eli Apple and he has shown that he was worth the 10th pick, Floyd looks to be a future star and a very good pass rusher.

Picking at 23 we won't really know who the Giants are targeting because so many top players at every position will be selected. Based on the past season and our impending free agents, one could see anyone of the following positions as a need: DE, DT, LB, OT, OG, TE, WR, RB.

Trading up and speculating at this point is kinda silly. Free agency will happen first and I can see the Giants adding at least 1 OL and re-signing either JPP or Hankins.
This is not the year tof move up

Unless your going for a top 2/3 pick truly elite level player. It's a really solid draft.

Hopefully some more glaring needs can be filled in FA.
