Shrine Game Notebook TuesdaySome good stuff. Could be some good pickings at the TE position throughout the draft.
He wasn't good at LB this year...most project him
JCin332 : 1/18/2017 6:22 am : link
as an in the box safety and I think we have a pretty damn good one of those already...!!
We are not picking him...
EricJ : 1/18/2017 7:24 am : link
not only because he does not fit an immediate need... but in my opinion, they also do not need another player who is going to draw too much attention (on and off the field).

I know Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network, probably the most respected and dialed in draft media guy, listed Miami TE David Njoku as his top tight end. He might wind up being correct, but Alabama’s O.J. Howard is incredibly well-regarded by a lot of NFL scouts. Both need to be in the top 24 picks of any mock draft. Both might be long gone by then too. I haven’t studied Njoku enough yet to have an informed opinion.

Peppers is a great athlete, but I guess it's a matter of....
Crispino : 1/18/2017 8:00 am : link
figuring out how he'll fit a defense. Definitely a great return man, probably a safety. He's a bit of a head case though. Huge ego. I wonder if that reputation has been circulated.

Strange comment this one is.
It always strikes me as odd...
Gatorade Dunk : 1/18/2017 8:23 am : link
...how a player can be "dropping" in mid-January. The post-season all-star games have not yet been played (although most would argue that the practices are more valuable than the games), the combine has not happened, the pro-days have not happened, interviews with teams have not happened.

What is he dropping from, exactly? From some draftnik's extremely premature guess to a slightly less premature guess? None of these guys' draft value can be fairly assessed in mid-January, so to say he's dropping is based on a false premise. His value is still being determined. New information is still being collected.

Add to that, it's a zero sum process. If one player is universally projected to be the #1 overall pick and another player happens to be picked #1 instead purely on his own merit and not due to anything related to the first player, did the first one drop? As certain players improve their draft stock, others will inevitably "drop" as a result.
He projects to a SS or a RB/WR-type
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 1/18/2017 8:28 am : link
Which lowers his draft stock overall and doesn't project him to either local team.
OP
lugnut : 1/18/2017 8:59 am : link
would love a 205-pound guy as a LB? I wouldn't.

Said it before -- I don't trust guys who haven't found their position by the time they're leaving college. And is the scenario that we might/should draft such a guy at #23? No thanks!

Lot of hype around Peppers. Sensational athlete? OK, if Harbaugh says so. Great return man? Could be. IIRC, he didn't have his first career interception until midway through this past season. That's amazing considering the Heisman hype. And yeah, I get the sense has one hell of an ego. All in all, just no thank you.
In a passing league
MotownGIANTS : 1/18/2017 9:24 am : link
which the NFL is ... he plays FS and nickle DB and can be your dime LB.

Also in the cap era he covers KR/PR and 4th WR. Teams that pass on him are foolish. He is a football player that helps on the field and against the cap.
Belichick
NNJ Tom : 1/18/2017 9:26 am : link
will know how to use him.

looks
blue42 : 1/18/2017 1:28 pm : link
like a protypical strong safety....with great cover skills.

What's not to like.
He'd get destroyed at LB

In the NFL.
Already dropping?
Section331 : 1/18/2017 2:28 pm : link
According to whom? This is ridiculous speculation, let's see how he does at the combine.

Even more ridiculous is Peppers playing LB at the next level. What is he, 205 lbs? He'd need to put on at least 20 lbs.
It's not that he's dropping
LI NHB : 1/18/2017 3:08 pm : link
it's that he was aggressively overrated as a NFL prospect right out of the gate because of his versatility.

Make no mistake, he is no where the same caliber prospect that Myles Jack was despite the relative parallels.
How does
area junc : 1/18/2017 3:12 pm : link
he compare to Shaq Thompson?

Huh? I can get concern about where he fits, but concern about his ego is totally unfounded.
Why couldn't he be a FS?
RobCarpenter : 1/18/2017 3:17 pm : link
.
The guy's a diva.
Crispino : 1/18/2017 5:03 pm : link
That may not matter, but it may turn some teams off.

Let me put it another way. We have enough media distractions right now.

iirc shaq is a bigger player, but i can see the comp.

I dont like the myles Jack comp because Jack had so little production in college. Jabrill has a lot of production, but the question of course is where he should play.

And I think Landon Collins' season is really going to push him to SS.
Seems to me to be an excellent SS prospect, a very good RB
yatqb : 1/18/2017 6:20 pm : link
prospect, and a great returner. IT will be interesting to see his work at the Combine (e.g., going back to the sideline on deep passes; speed in 3-cone, shuttle and 40, etc.)
