A lot of people insisted differences in strength and conditioning programs couldn't possibly lead to differences in team health and that the Giants consistent high ranking in number of injuries was just pure luck.
Quote:
Most of Kennard's training took place at the Giants' facility. First-year head coach Ben McAdoo and new strength coach Aaron Wellman successfully revamped the team's training program.
The Giants transformed from one of the NFL's most injured teams to one of its healthiest under the new regime.
"I think that was a huge impact for our entire team, but me specifically as well," Kennard said. "The program that McAdoo had, the schedule that he created was awesome. I think that was a huge contributor to why our team and myself was healthy."
The work in the weight room was significantly different under Wellman.
"I loved the program," Kennard said. "It sucked sometimes because we were really getting after it in the weight room even late in the season. It's December going into January and we're still getting after it 2-3 times a week lifting pretty heavily. But I think it was good because it's not just lifting heavy for no reason. It's functional movement, it's putting your body in positions that it needs to be in to remain powerful. I know I maintained my strength throughout the year. That's thanks to the program we had at the Giants. I think that's a huge contributor to why guys were healthy."
Isn't that similar to what Tiki Barber used to do?
He is a starting Olb for this team? Or a backup? I really did not hear or see too much from him not to make me want to add a young starting Olb in the first two rounds (not that the Giants will do that).
I truly believe it was the strength and conditioning program that did Coach Coughlin in. This team likely has at least two more deep playoff runs without constantly being the most of team in the league, imo.
before canonizing Mr. Wellman? Was his last name the real reason why we stayed healthy? :)
As for Kennard, he finally stayed healthy.....he made some plays.....but he is not the linebacker we hoped he would be....he just looks better, when compared to the other linebackers we have drafted in the past....one sack, one fumble, no int's, is nothing to get excited about....
By his third season, with the defense that was on the field around him, I thought we would see more from him...we didn't...
hopefully we will make further strides and get our returning athletes functioning at an even higher level this year
Coughlin did the Olympic style training for a reason - his brand was power at all positions. It lead to ghastly amount of injuries but that core power was necessary.
run defense. if we lose JPP we will need him to step up even more next year as a pass rusher. glad the massage and physical therapy have contributed to his full participation in the lineup this season.
he just happened to remain healthy. That actually happens at times
Yes, he happened to remain healthy. That's not enough of a sample size to determine the training program contributed...
But how about the other 52 guys in comparison to what we've dealt with the last few years. The evidence suggests it's had at least some impact on our team's health.

I think he's a good starter for any team, including this one.

Bingo. I wonder if TC is going to give Palmieri a call to follow him to Jax.

+1,000. About the only good decision Brady Hoke ever made as a Michigan head coach was hiring Wellman.
I also hope Palmieri follows TC back to Jacksonville.
When last seen (in February), he was "assisting the personnel department" at the Combine. One fan joked that his role was to lower the draft stock of coveted prospects by injuring them.
It seems a waste to exile a weapon like Palmieri to the AFC with Coughlin. The goal should be to deploy him in our own conference - ideally with the Eagles or Cowboys.

grades, but I give them a lot of respect.
Thanks to Mac and staff.
