with which we scored a TD never called again? Its not like we were prolific scoring in the red zone. As far as I remember it was the only "gadget" play we tried all year.
there are only a few specific situations where a Hook and Ladder might work.
Most often when the defense is in a "prevent" type defense, offense too far away for Hail Mary, probably less than 20 seconds left in the half or game, need one play to get far enough down the field to attempt a FG or Hail Mary.
The hook and lateral, sometimes erroneously referred to as "hook and ladder", is a trick play in American or Canadian football. It starts with the hook, which is where a wide receiver runs a predetermined distance, usually 10 yards down the field, and along the sideline, and "hooks in" towards the center of the field to receive a forward pass from the quarterback. Another offensive player (usually another wide receiver) times a run so that he is at full speed, just behind the player with the ball at the time of the catch. As the defenders close in on the stationary ball carrier, he laterals or hands the ball to the teammate running at full speed in the opposite direction of the original receiver.[1]
The Giants were eliminated from playoff contention after a week 16 loss at Philly. A game they nearly won on a last second hook and latter play that Ron Dixon took over 70 yards but was chased down inside the 5 yard line.

This year. Don't remember which game. We were around 7 yard line. I think the pass was to OBJ and I don't recall who the lateral went to.
Never happened. You're misremembering.
Perhaps you confuse it with this jets play? (Only hook and ladder that scored in recent memory) Link - ( New Window )
Closer than that, I think he made it to the 3 yard line. That nearly was an all time play, Dixon just needed one more block.
