Anybody watch this and have an opinion to share? It was recommended to me & I tried to do a search on here to see if there was a prior discussion but didn't find anything...
I like it a lot. Thought the first season was better than the second.
Basic synopsis w/o spoilers: set in 1960s (based on a 60s novel). An alternate timeline where Nazi Germsny and Jaoan won WW II and split the US between them. The series follows important members of both, and members of the US resistance. A mysterious man collects movies, many of which depict events from our timeline.
Anything Ridley Scott touches is going to be fire. But this show is on another level. Plan on doing nothing after the first three episodes cause its Binge City after that.
as some others here believe. While the premise and the CGI are great, the plot stretches awfully thin at times. Juliana, Frank, and Joe are extremely annoying sometimes. Kido, Tagomi (the Japanese storyline in general), and Smith are my favorite parts of the show.
The book or the TV show. What's the right order to try either?
I have not read the book. But my understanding is that while the series is faithful to the general concept and feel of the novel, there are many changes to the storyline. Obviously you have to expand things when you're turning a 300 page book Into dozens of episodes. Additionally, the book was written over 50 years ago, so some adaptation for modern audiences was likely needed. And many don't translate from print well.
Some people hate movies and shows that diverge from the original book they enjoyed. If you're one of those people, don't read the book first. If not, it's up to you. It's certainly not needed to watch the show.

It's been quite a while since I read the book, but the first season is only loosely based on the book. There are some significant differences between the book and series (including a major character that was created solely for the series). They are different enough that I would probably just go ahead and watch the show.

It's a great show. Can't wait for season 3.
Why? Spoilers? Political? NSFW pics?

If you can pound a show and can deal with subtitles definitely check out Fauda on netflix

I started watching 8 days ago, and finished season 2 last night. I willing to throw it into the ring with The Wire & Breaking Bad.

Thanks for the heads up.
