And he feels that we've just scratched the surface with Hankins.
The only team to slow down Dallas's ground game and it started in the middle. I'd like to see him back.
To a great extent, this decision hinges on their view of Bromley.
Of course Kawann Short would be an upgrade, but he'll be 28 in a week or two, and there's a serious risk of his next team paying him at 30 for the player he was in Carolina at 26.
If the Giants consider Bromley the heir to Hankins, the question is already answered. If he's a solid one-year stopgap, maybe you draft a DT on Day Two (the NYG MO anyway), ride JB in 2017 while working in the rookie, and reassess next winter.
A premium UFA - or tagging/re-signing Hankins - comes into play if Bromley figures only as a rotational body. In that case, Short is the obvious "Gotta win now while Eli can still play" option. (Poe less so - he's a bigger name than Hankins, but is he really a much better player?). The thing is, Eli's window as a franchise QB will close rapidly without an offensive line and some additional weapons. So that would be a higher priority, with the understanding that the defense might take a step back this year.
to have those other guys as FAs, as it may lesson the need to sign Hank by other teams. In JPPs case, he's like the top DE available in FA this year and so he may have more suitors.
Does anyone else think this idea of Bromley stepping in for Hankins
I realize the consensus view is that it would be a step-down to some degree. Its just that I think it would be way too big of a step-down...like grand canyon'esque

So far Bromley hasn't shown enough to believe he is anything more than a rotational DT.
Hankins is a bigger 3 Tech, more of a run stopper than pass rusher. But NYG will bring a DE and move them inside on 3rd and long. Hankins helps keep teams in 3rd down situations. So maybe the plan is to re-sign Hankins and draft a DE early and let JPP walk?
I don't think Bromley is starter material.....he is a rotational player.....
But I don't think you overpay Hankins, just because you might lose JPP...it's possible, we lose both....with an across the board Cap increase, there could be some wild offers out there....
That's why this is a critical year for the Giants....Eli has maybe one or two good years left, maybe less if we don't put an OL in front of him, and he continues to take a beating....he also needs weapons, a TE, another RB, and 3rd WR.....
The defense needs another corner(worry about DRC staying on the field), another FS, LB, and then we have the JPP/Hankins situation.....
So hard decisions have to be made....all these "hoes" can't be filled.....and as far as depth goes, when a starter goes down, there is a huge dropoff in talent...

I agree on Bromley. He is backup/rotational, not an impact player. I'd like to keep JPP. Plus, if history is any indication,. we would keep our DE, i.e., JPP, let Hankins walk, and draft a DT in rounds 1 - 3.
Looked to be on the rise on 2014 and has been just so so since. He has the size and the ability to very good, but he lost a lot of 2015 to injury and was not back to his pre-injury form this year. So the Giants have a decision to make, was 2014 an aberration or was 2016? My gut says he walks and we draft a replacement.
I can't imagine hankins is going to strike it rich

Either way both'll get more than Hankins in FA. Giants won't do that.

maybe you also ask Snacks for his opinion about a guy named Sheldon Richardson who might a cap casualty.
Maybe Julius Peppers on a 1 year deal too?

Seems like he might be a good 3 tech. We always seem to go 2 or 3 for the DT heir apparent.
