True. Was rarely active. I assume Solari and the Giants FO are not necessarily on the same page in what to look for in OL. For all the kudos Reese has gotten after a good offseason and a couple of good drafts there is something really wrong in the way this team evaluates its OL talent
puzzling. Only activated if there were injuries. The ultimate back up. I assume he won't be back next year, but I suppose it's possible. Who thought he'd be back this year?
He was in as an extra lineman and did OK.Actually got downfield and toom his man out of play. Very small sample but did not look horrible or lost. Coaches see him every day and did not think he was good enough to play more. I think that says a lot.
He couldn't have had that much ring rust and there was nothing indicating he was injured. His last full season as a Giant was one of his best. The only conclusion I'm left to draw as that he showed them very little during the week in practice. Could this have just been a Will B money grab? I sure hope there's more to it than that.
Hard to have any intelligent comment or discussion of a guy we never saw take the field. All you can do is infer the coaching staff wasn't impressed...
to warrant keeping him out of the lineup all year in 2016.
The coaching staff seemed to want to make no changes at all in OL unless forced by injury.
That's what I thought. He NEVER played as badly as Flowers has, and yet they stubbornly kept the status quo on the OL which truly doomed this team and its offense.
has questionable drive, and he hasn't played football in 2 years, and that player doesn't crack the starting lineup, it likely means that player isn't earning it.
Beatty didn't see the field because Beatty is a LT only and the Giants weren't moving Flowers for anyone. They should've moved him and signed one of the prominent Left Tackles they interviewed, but they tried to get someone to agree on switching to Right Tackle so they could let Flowers grow at LT since he was the 9th pick in the draft. Eric Moore, William Roberts, Luke Petitgout, and Justin Pugh all were drafted as Left Tackles but played elsewhere at first. Petitgout was the only one to play LT for any amount of time. Draft stays is one thing, but if you can't do the job you play somewhere else or sit on the bench. Not so in today's NFL.
If we can't find a good Left Tackle in FA, a trade, or in the first round of the draft then we'd better start to get our thinking straight on who we have and what our best line might be. Right now Flowers goes to the bench until he proves that he can beat someone out. Beatty is our LT, Pugh at LG, Richburg at C, Jones at RG, Hart at RT. I would sign a LT and a RG if possible. If not then I would look to draft the best players available at every pick with the hopes that a LT falls to us or is made available by trading up. I would also be hoping to land a guard/center type somewhere during the draft.
a million dollars. He suckered Reece into thinking he still was interested in playing. Can you imagine what his practices must have looked like? With the shape of our OL not to get a sniff?? Jerry made a mistake, Beatty got over at him at a time of desperation.
If he was that bad that he didn't even try don't you think they would have released him? I would think that getting a cast off from another team or even getting a rookie from somebody's practice squad would have been better if that was the case. The coaches must have thought that keeping him on the roster was better than the alternative and if a million dollars was what they were willing to spend for that luxury then it's not Beatty's fault.
balls to release him right after giving him a million guaranteed. It happens, not blaming anyone, but if he couldnt even get a sniff of the field its quite obvious that he was a disaster
RE: RE: I Never Saw Beatty Play Badly Enough at Any Point in His Career
was that he didn't really have a preseason and Flowers had some good games early in the year.I think they wanted some continuity and it might have been too hard to move Flowers to RT midseason.

Godot?
Seeing how Flowers was struggling all year and still they didn't want to see If Beatty had anything left.
On what 4 plays?

Godot?
Google it.

Well...the coaching staff actually saw him, ya know, practice and stuff. You did not.
My guess is he didn't show them anything.
This isn't rocket science.

Do you think the coaches can only see that in games? The silence was deafening.

Who can refuse free money to do nothing?
The fact that Beatty didn't get much attention this offseason tells you everything you need to know.

You guys must have forgotten the 2013 season...Beatty was absolutely BRUTAL that season. He made Ereck Flowers look like Anthony Munoz

Now I remember why I chose not to remember that.
Our OL, especially OT's, sucked so yes you have to at least think he's DONE but lets wait to see if the Giants attempt to re-sign him as a backup.
