SB LI: New England vs. Atlanta

Bramton1 : 1/22/2017 9:14 pm
Who are you rooting for?

I kind of want to root for Atlanta, but I also like the idea of the Giants being the only team capable of beating Tom Brady in a Super Bowl.

I consider Bill from the Giants coaching tree. He was a great DC for us. He always respected our organization and TC. That is the extra finger on the scale for me.

Seattle had the better D two years ago, and they still lost. There's more to it than that I think.

In two weeks, 14 percent of all Super Bowls will have been started, in part, by Tom Brady.
No Met fan is going to root for Atlanta
Cruzin : 1/22/2017 10:14 pm : link

and no Yankee fan is going to root for Boston.

That said, the Pats defense is probably their most impressive accomplishment this year. It's like they evolve to get better every week.

I'm in the more the Patriots win the better the Giants' wins against them look camp.

Let's go Pats.

I wonder what percent have been coached (in part) by Belichick when you add in his 7 as HC in NE, 3 as DC (two in NY and one in NE).

20%?

Calculate the championship games the guy has been a part of (add in the Jets vs Broncos too).

You guys latching on to some weird notion about Belichick are like scorned prom dates. He couldn't care less about the Giants at this point unless his team is playing them.

Some of you have some sort of

LOL, yeah I'm a Boston fan. There isn't a person on this board who hates Boston sports teams more than me. Not the Patriots, Red Sox or Bruins. No one. I guarantee it. Even BC. There are times when a Boston team loss makes me feel better than a team I actually root for winning, but you go ahead and care so much who other Giants want to win a football game. who gives a shit if some of these people prefer the Patriots win. who gives a shit?

Ok. But you have money

ill will for the Falcons and wouldn't mind seeing them get A SB. I do like that the Giants are the only team to have beaten the Patriots though.

In the end I probably will not root for either as I don't care. I just hope we get a good game.
I'd rather Atlanta.
Dave in Hoboken : 1/22/2017 10:50 pm : link
I don't want to see the Pats take the lead on the Giants on SB wins, which is what this game would do for them. Sickening that they might win more SBs than the Giants in like half of the time. (16 years).

Yes, I bet the Patriots to win the Super Bowl every year, and I have since 2008 at a company event each August at the Venetian in Vegas.

I have collected on the bet once (the Seattle debacle).

It's money I would gladly lose to not have to listen to the asshole fanbase all off-season, but winning the money does take some sting out of it, not going to lie.
Atlanta getting their first would be ok
JohnF : 1/22/2017 11:03 pm : link
but it would be fun seeing the rat Rodger Goodell having to stand at the podium and give the trophy to Kraft and Brady, while getting booed. Especially if Kraft is drunk.

This fan thing is cool and all but above all I'm a fan of my bank account. Certainly ahead of a bunch of dudes who don't know I exist. And the Giants aren't even involved. PJ, from your end this is easy.

They would be the 2nd team to win 5 in that many years, you'll be fine.
I guess I'm rooting for Atlanta
illmatic : 1/23/2017 12:39 am : link
since they haven't won anything before and because, well, it's the Patriots. I don't really care about either team though. I wouldn't be that upset if the Patriots won though. It just means the Giants are the only team to beat them and it'll piss off Dallas/San Fran/Pittsburgh fans which is fine by me.

We remove another woebegone franchise from the list of teams to never have won a Superbowl and the Eagles still remain or the Giants are still the only team which beat the Patriots in the Superbowl. Cannot lose with either choice.

everyone is saying that Falcons defense isn't good
I think NE defense is overrated as well..

Bell was having insanely great playoffs and if he doesn't get hurt the first quarter it is a different ball game.

I think NE won't be able to keep up with Atlanta Offense
the game won't even be close
How can any fan of the NFL not root for Atlanta?
Jimmy Googs : 1/23/2017 8:48 am : link
Looking forward to a good game as I haven't seen many teams be able to cover Julio AND the Falcons RBs out of the backfield yet...

I don't care if someone else joins us in beating them in the Super Bowl.It will be good to see a different team win a title, let Ryan into the same group as Brees,Rodgers,Flacco,Wilson,as active one time winners.
I just want a good game
UConn4523 : 1/23/2017 8:58 am : link
these playoffs have been among the worst I've ever seen. Literally, the fucking worst (and that's got nothing to do with the Giants). 10 games, only 2 of which were competitive for longer than a half. Its been a disgrace.

The Superbowl is usually a crapshoot from a quality standpoint but i'm holding out hope there's a reason to watch the 4th quarter. I don't actually care who wins, there's pros and cons to both teams winning IMO, but for the love of sports please make this game competitive.

because they are the one team I believe that can keep up with them offensively, and also put pressure on them that way.

I think it will be a great game, and most likely close.

is something that always sticks in my head when the Patriots face a very good offense going back to the Giants Super Bowl.

This means that Bill and the D want the ball to go specific players and force them to make plays to beat them.

No doubt they will double up on Julio and probable then use Butler to battle up with Sanu one on one without help.

They want the ball to go Gabriel and the tight ends figuring the rest of the team will be able to tackle and hold down the running game when those times come up.

Falcons will likely move the ball. But can see the Pats defense hold them to a FG enough times inside the 30 yard line to get the W.

Have gotten
Mike in Marin : 1/23/2017 5:38 pm : link
more and more sick of their insufferable fans...many of whom I attended college with in New England, and who post unceasingly on facebook (which I have started to unfollow).

So I am rooting for the Falcons.

Still, I do not hate the Patriots anywhere nearly as much as many NFC teams (Dallas, Philly, Wash, SF, and others to a lesser degree) and the Jets (not the team as much as their fans).

I am so relieved that Dallas got knocked out, that I am trying to be thankful even if the Pats win, which looks highly likely given their experience and how they destroyed a very good Steelers team last night.
And arguments about us
Mike in Marin : 1/23/2017 5:40 pm : link
having beaten the Pats in 2 SBs is ancient history to me. They are a dynasty and I feel like a tool even bringing that up after we have sucked for 4 of the 5 seasons since the last one.

I saw a pre-season game between the Giants and the Patriots 2 or 3 years ago. I got the Patriots feed. Their broadcasters were so obnoxious. They need to be put in their place.
