I guess it's not easy replacing Dick Schaap and John Saunders. One of the last shows that didn't have yelling, over the top debating, antics and it took ego down a bit. Bob Ley better watch his back with Outside The Lines. Link - ( New Window )
the younger generation wants to know more about what LeBron said in a tweet about the SuperBowl instead of an actual journalistic approach. ESPN just caters everything to that nonsense.

ESPN is just making its bed with the NBA. Really ashame. They just latch on to meaningless NBA stories which mean nothing to cater to the 15 year old. Just brutal.

I'm 25 - don't know if that qualifies me - and this doesn't encapsulate me or speak to my interests. ESPN is garbage because of more than generational differences. It's cable content everywhere too. Networks are shooting themselves in the foot lately it seems. I haven't seen a new show come out that looks original and interesting on a network in 10 years. It's all derivative shit. They've gone the route of old action movies in the 80s turned into TV series as well. The regurgitation never seems to end.
the choices of reporter, but it was always a good show. I loved Schaap, and good point about not being able to replace Saunders. Very few "grown ups" left on sports television.
I think MLB Network is probably providing the best sports coverage these days...
for as long as I can remember. Even with Lupica being Lupica, it's always been an excellent show, and I'm amazed at how loyal the panelists are. Mitch Albom has won a million awards for journalism and has written numerous best-selling novels, and he still flies in from Detroit on a regular basis for a half-hour Sunday morning show.
ESPN overpaid for the rights to basically every sport it airs based on a mistaken belief that they could pass along all costs in an environment of ever rising subscriber numbers and monthly fees -- in fact I believe they overbid on purpose to discourage a rival Fox/NBC channel from securing premium content. Now ESPN is intentionally bleeding out and talent that wont work for peanuts, to address the problem of overpayments in an age of cord cutters and a la carte cable packages that let people decline costly sports channels.

There's numerous reasons why ESPN is in the shitter, just is just a big one of them. Once they dedicated their entire lineup to cater to social media they lost a lot of loyal fans, or atleast fans that would tune in for actual insights.
ESPN provides me with nothing I can't get doing a quick Google search (and forget comparing to something like BBI where the discussions here, even the awful ones, usually provide more insight).
with the sound off, I haven't watched ESPN for anything in years. Well, I did catch the 30-30 where Digger snapped UCLA's 88 game win streak and Everyone Hates Christian Laetner but the NBA has been unwatchable since Patrick Ewing retired and the influx of former players as analysts and promoting opinions based on shock value just turned me off to the sports shows.
I'll watch the occasional women's tennis match if there's a cool breeze blowing ( I'm old, not dead) but NFLN has football, MLBN has baseball, there is nothing else.
24's coming back in 2 weeks. There's no replacing the Jack Attack but I'll give it a hopeful shot.
Haven't seen that show in years. Are people really upset about this? A bunch of self important blowhards who aren't even that knowledgeable about sports (most of whom checked out years ago) bloviating about the topics of the day in long form. Little mike lupica who is intolerable. Bob Ryan who looks like if Bill Clinton was in the last stages of AIDS. Not a good show, and I doubt some of the people complaining even watched it, but hey it's another reason for everyone to pat themselves on the back about how much they hate espn.

2. e:60 (some very good stories there)
3. 30 for 30
Other than that, ESPN is never on at my house.

I actually liked the sports reporters and otl.
Pti is also good when I can catch it.
E60 is hit or miss. 30 for 30 is fantastic
Oy.

He was on it for 28 years....

And the two hosts passed away!
