Ben Being Ben

Danny Kanell : 1/23/2017 10:58 am
Quote:
Ben Roethlisberger was critical of Steelers’ young players after loss to Patriots

“I don’t know if that’s the one thing, but you have to score when they’re down there,” Roethlisberger said, via the Post-Gazette. “There were missed opportunities — whether we didn’t execute well enough, whether plays weren’t made by me or other guys. At times it felt like maybe it was too big for some of the young guys.”

“Hopefully, this is a learning game for guys to understand this isn’t promised to anybody. Tomorrow isn’t promised. Just to make the playoffs isn’t enough,” he said. “A lot of guys have been in the league for a long time and haven’t been to any of these. I hope they understand the importance and relish the opportunity if it comes again.”

Thank God For Eli - ( New Window )

when he made the comments? Great player, but man what a fucking douchebag. I loved every second of that blowout loss - Belichick coaches the pants of Tomlin every freaking time.

Ben gets for his postseason accomplishments, I was pretty shocked to see exactly how average/bad his stats were:

13-7
28 TD (total) - 23 INT
4700 yards (which would equate to 3700 yards in a full season)

In his last 9 playoff games
3-4
8 TD - 9 INT
he's an asshole
UConn4523 : 1/23/2017 11:08 am : link
and he's the type of asshole that tries to pretend he's not which is the worst kind.

They had no chance yesterday and he played like garbage. If Eli had this performance he would blame no one but himself.

I stand by the notion that he would be eaten alive in NYC and likely is run out of town with everything he's pulled (rape allegations, milking injuries, throwing teammates under the bus).

and disgusting human being to boot, but honestly I have no problems with those comments. To me that's a veteran QB sending a message to the younger players who may not have taken it seriously enough. Who knows? We weren't at practice or staying with the team all week.
Isn't it funny
Jay on the Island : 1/23/2017 11:25 am : link
that people claim that Eli was lucky to win two superbowls and that the defense single handedly won both games. There is never any talk about Roethlisbergers performance in both superbowl victories especially his first one where he had the worst performance of any winning QB in SB history. There seems to be more hatred towards Eli for what he did on draft day than there is for Roethisberger and all his off the field antics.
.....
Route 9 : 1/23/2017 11:28 am : link
Some of the players Eli has played with over the years certainly deserve to be thrown under a bus. Literally thrown under a bus.

Kind of reminds me to a degree of Tyson and Kobe..Both raped, one went to prison because he was universally unliked. the other went on with his life..Both pieces of shit, but one still loved and regaled

Big Blue '56 : 1/23/2017 11:39 am : link
Eli and the other rapists..It's ONLY about perception..Eli is an asshole for not wanting to go to SD, but Ben is a gutty QB who is a lock for the HOF according to many and his ONLY crime(s) is/was rape..

Perception is that Kobe is a good guy and Tyson is a scumbag, when the truth is they both are
The playcalling
ryanmkeane : 1/23/2017 11:41 am : link
both times on the goal line was awful. Basically run up the middle until it failed multiple times, and then fades to the corner. Brutal.
If the Giants had instant success with Ben at QB the way the Steelers
Devon : 1/23/2017 11:42 am : link
did and then sustained it the way they mostly have, he'd have survived playing here just fine, as he'd have cache to justify the spin, excuse making and forgiveness required. His demeanor and outward toughness (however milked and attention whored out) also fit what a large portion of sports fans, especially Giants fans, and the NY media love in their athletes. It would have helped that he entered the league and raped before social media totally blew up too.

He wouldn't have had that instant success and he'd have much the same track record of missing the playoffs that Eli has had here though. With the benefit of hindsight, the Steelers were obviously the best destination for a QB land out of the three main choices in 2004.

It's subtle, but he's assigning blame to the inexperience of the younger players.

While it may be a big reason why they lost, it's not really the QBs place to be saying it during the press conference right after the loss, if at all.

Thru multiple sources who live in Pittsburgh....He is not well liked in the locker room. A friend of mine has a friend who lives on the same golf course...and he is still banging chicks even though he is married.

I went to Miami Oh as well...and the grapevine is littered with stories of his douchbaggery.

The Pittsburgh fans that I know....are tolerant because he is a good QB. But he is a bad human being.

Yes. I though Giants#1 meant that Peyton was in the whiners camp, which he definitely was (bashing the OL, the "idiot kicker", whining with Polian about the refs after they lost to the Pats) Archie Manning once told Francesa that he didn't think Peyton could play in NY, that he let things bother him, but Eli always just let stuff slide off his back.

trueblueinpw : 1/23/2017 3:48 pm : link
He's always lauded as a being a "no brainer" for the HOF. Why is everyone alway in such a hurry to wash this guy's sack?

But, having said that, I don't really think what he said was so bad. Plus, you have to figure Ben has a pretty good sense of where his guys are in terms of the game and being prepared or being overwhelmed.

If I were a Pittsburgh fan I'd be more worried about the defense getting carved up in zone coverage. The book on the Pats is very complicated: jam the receivers and hit Brady. Sure, that's not always easy to do, but who thought it was a good idea to play zone coverage yesterday?

Actually in that case, the "idiot kicker" (Vanderjagt) started the whole thing. Not unlike Jay Feely, there have been some kickers and punters (Vikings) in the league that just talked way too much.
