I cannot remember a worse string of wildcard, divisional and championship games. With the exception of Green Bay at Dallas just about every game was decided by halftime or shortly there after. I'll give the wildcard games a pass but I expect way more from the divisional and championship games.
We all know the ratings were down for the NFL this year but these last 3 weeks could not have helped. They were boring and mostly uncompetitive. By the 4th qtr of most of these games I was tuning out.
Now comes the Super Bowl. Giving Bill 2 weeks to game plan against Atlanta, I expect this one to be over by halftime as well.
I hope the Superbowl is't the same way, although I can see the Falcons withering in the moment and the Patriots taking it to them big time.
Silly, I know
Silly, I know
There's that, but to me it's outweighed by:
- rooting for the underdog
- rooting for the NFC
- hating New England sports teams generally
- not liking much about the Patriots specifically
- not hating Atlanta as a city or its sports teams
At the end of the day, it's kind of a push.
The games had much closer matchups when teams were determined.
I'm rooting for the Patriots to lose so they don't end up with more Super Bowl wins than the Giants, but if they win, the narrative:
"Belichick & Brady are 5-0 vs (Rams, Panthers, Eagles, Seahawks, [Falcons?]), but 0-2 versus Coughlin & Eli" isn't too bad.
Mike Smith being gone is a good thing for Atlanta.
Green Bay's inability to run finally caught up with them and had Garrett not fucked up in the first half, Dallas would have beat Green Bay.
The days of pass, pass, pass are over...offenses need to get back to balance. Unless we do, next year will be like this year.
You can't put NE in any category because they are simply the best coached team in the league and Bill does whatever he has to do from week to week. But they have the top D in the league and can run when they have to...usually using the pass to get ahead and then pounding the ball to use the clock. Pittsburgh's game plan against them yesterday was a joke. And they made very few adjustments.
The difference between Belichick and the rest of the league has never been greater.
I doubt advertisers got their money's worth in that game, either.
Brutal regular season. Bad postseason.
We know Bill isn't going to get blown out by ATL. The question is will Atlanta show up for this one. I sure fucking hope so.

Good points, the Pats can be physical and run on offense. Blount led the league in TD's so they can run in the red zone when it counts. This is one of the Giants' biggest problems, they can not run at all let alone when the field shrinks in the red zone.
