Road teams in playoffs

Route 9 : 1/23/2017 12:59 pm
So 2012 when the 49ers and Ravens played, was the last time any of the two teams in the SB played at least one game on the road in the playoffs. Since then it's just been a bunch of number 1's and 2's. I think Atlanta this year is the only #2 seed to make it in the past few years. I don't know if this was posted anywhere and I didn't read it anywhere just something I realized by myself.
I was having this discussion

with a friend and we both agreed how important it is to be a 1-2 seed in these playoffs. You are two home games away in most cases from the big game. I realize the Giants, Packers and Steelers have gone to a SB as a 5-6 seed but having to win three games on the road before the big one is just an unrealistic very tall order!!
its crucial to be a no 1 or no 2

while keeping your team engaged during the bye week.
SF was a #2 seed in 2012

and Ravens where #3.

Ravens played 2 road games, Niners played 1.
Ravens #4

Right. But they still played a game on the road (2012 AFCCG) and I forget that Packers 49ers game in SF was a playoff game.

And I said they were the last to do so.
A very popular narrative

a few years ago was that home field doesn't really matter anymore in the playoffs because PSL's threw the "real fans" out of the stadiums and because new stadiums had too many corporate boxes and couldn't get loud.

After the Giants and Ravens runs a popular narrative was also that it was better off not to get the bye because teams would get "stale" during the off weeks.

I would say, in the PSL era, and with ticket exchange my costs for tickets have been gratefully cheap. I went to every game this year and I can't really complain about what I shelled out for each game. The Cowboy game was a bit pricey but it was worth it since the Giants won the game. I did want to see football played in SNOW.
