NFT: J.T. Miller

blueblood'11 : 1/24/2017 6:45 am
If I have to read one more article by Larry Brooks, see yesterdays NY Post, where the word trade and J.T. Miller are in the same sentence I'm going to send him an e-mail asking him where he gets this bullshit from and stop writing it. Why on earth would the Rangers even think to trade this kid.

He's a work horse and like Zuccarello makes some of the most incredible passes that lead to goals. He's young and his upside is unlimited at this point. He's only going to get better and is as steady a player as the Rangers have on the roster.

All players go into lulls he's no different. But man oh man the kid is a rock. He works his ass off when he's on the ice. Why Brooks every now again mentions him and the word trade drives me fucking nuts.
I like him a lot

Has some Roenick in him

No one is untouchable in the right deal
bigbluehoya : 1/24/2017 6:58 am : link
I don't have a problem with trade ideas, but I do love Miller and I think he's been significantly undervalued in the fan trade proposals I've seen across the internet.

Playing at a ~60 point pace at 23 years old, plays a responsible game, good. Other along the walls and in space, good hands, size, can finish, and plenty of sandpaper.

Something(s) pretty awesome would have to be coming back for me to be OK dealing him. I'd lose my damn mind if it were in a Shattenkirk rental or something like that.
Good BOTH in space and along the walls
bigbluehoya : 1/24/2017 6:59 am : link
Not sure how I fucked that up.

Coffee please
I agree

No one is untouchable. But at this point in his career and development I would say he is untouchable. This kid embodies what it is to be a Ranger. You want to give me Connor McDavid okay. That's a radical proposal but at this point that is how strongly I feel about Miller.

He leads by example. When he was breaking in with the Rangers you could see he had an edge to him and I liked him a lot right away. They kept sending him down for one reason or another and the way he played I just didn't understand why. I guess they were looking for consistency. Well, he's consistently conspicuous when he's on the ice. And you can't teach that. He's a diffence maker in so many ways. An all around 200 foot player.
It's been noted that
Jay in Toronto : 1/24/2017 7:45 am : link
Kreider, Miller and Hayes all had to step up this year and they all have.

I think Hayes has been the most consistent. If Miller keeps it up he may overtake them.

And Skjei may pass them all.
Very dissappointed when realized this thread was not about Silicon

Valley and the actor that plays Erlich Bachman.
You do wonder whether
Deej : 1/24/2017 8:14 am : link
Brooks has sources in the org telling him that Hayes and Kreider are more untouchable.

Cant get too enamored with your own toys. Although Miller is like a bigger Cally on the ice (no idea if he is a leader), and that's hard as hell to replace.
Probably because its going to be tough to fit him under
MetsAreBack : 1/24/2017 8:29 am : link
the cap after next season as we only gave him a bridge deal this summer, unfortunately, and Mika is due a big raise.

I'd rather trade Girardi or Staal to solve our 2018 cap issues. Make it happen Jeff!!!
anyone can be traded, even if it's not a good deal.
Victor in CT : 1/24/2017 8:32 am : link
Ask Ratelle, Jean and Park, Brad.
Also Callahan, Ryan

And in Ranger land you can also get unceremoniously dumped. Ask Eddie Giacomin and Rod Gilbert.
Neil Smith would trade Miller
Giants2012 : 1/24/2017 8:40 am : link
for Shane Doan

Brooks was saying that they shouldn't trade him.

Had the same thought, but I'd rather part with Hayes before Miller.
some of this speculation
ColHowPepper : 1/24/2017 9:54 am : link
may stem from the conundrum: Rangers are arguably close to being serious SC contenders (I'm with those who think that's a tad optimistic), but like bigbluehoya's comment above, accept that the team has depth of talent at the forward position to make a deal that would vault them up a notch but reject profiling us as forced sellers. But perhaps there's perception of a finite window that compels urgency.

If there's urgency, get rid of the pieces that are mispriced and overvalued and holding the team back (albeit Girardi had some moments last night) ....

The thing about Hayes is (1) he's a center, and the depth of the org is at wing (Nash, Zucc, Miller, Kreider, Buch, Vesey, Grabner, Fast are all good, plus Hrivik, plus Jensen, Kovacs, Gropp, and Tambo vs. Stepan, Zibby (RFA), Hayes, Lindberg, plus Nieves and Morrison?), and (2) IMO, Hayes's offensive ceiling is higher. Not likely, but he could be a PPG player at some point, especially if he gets on a line that clicks.

Im not sure who I'd rather part with. Frankly I wince at parting with any of like 10 of our forwards, which is a good sign that we have really good players up front. Whereas I feel that way about McD and maybe Skjei on the back end.
I don't think it's overly optimistic to say they're 2 dmen away
Greg from LI : 1/24/2017 10:02 am : link
from contending. The problem is that there are few options for getting those two dmen without opening other holes.
I'm going to have to throw

the challenge flag on comparing JT Miller to Roenick.

LOL. just busting your balls Giants2012, I know you said a little but I don't see any real similarities in their game.

I guess they're similar in that they both play hockey and both American and similarly sized. That's about where it ends IMO. and it's probably partly my habit of starting comparisons of players with those where they shoot the same way. Miller is a sniper IMO who doesn't know how good his shot is so he's afraid to take it and some people may call it a positive, but he's too unselfish, by Miller's current age Roenick had 2 50-goal seasons.

And I like Miller a lot, more than Hayes. I've made myself clear on that one.

Roenick is top 5 American center all time, top 10 American hockey player period.

Which is why trade deadline moves should be made with the Vegas expansion draft in mind (7 FWDs/3 D), not about trying to win a 2017 Cup, which we all agree is a bit of a hail mary given where this Defense is at today.
As well all lamented during the offseason
bigbluehoya : 1/24/2017 10:27 am : link
Not getting term from either JT or Hayes was folly, and it's going to make the next 2-3 offseasons all the more difficult to navigate.
Say what you want about Neil
Carl in CT : 1/24/2017 10:58 am : link
He left the cupboard dry etc. however he got it done and won a cup. That's what matters.
I find Roenick unlikable
Deej : 1/24/2017 10:58 am : link
But I have no specific memory re why that is so. Did he do something shitty?
We really have to make a deal
Carl in CT : 1/24/2017 11:00 am : link
For a stud. And give up 2-3 guys. If not we will lose a player for nothing.

trashed a hotel room in Nagano?

I'm indifferent on him personally. But he was a all-time American great on-ice.

I did also play against him in squirts when he played for Ridgefield, CT for a season in youth hockey (he's a year older than me). He was one of the best players I've seen that was obviously talented at a young age, stay talented if you know what I mean.
