NFT: The Man in the High Castle (Rambling Spoilers)

Boy Cord : 2/9/2017 2:53 pm
I know there have been numerous threads on this show over the past year. I just searched for an existing thread, but could not find one.

Anyway, the first season was amazing. The writing, acting, wardrobe, cinematography, direction ... I loved it. What I loved most was the mystery surrounding TMITHC and the films(who was he, where the films came from, what they were used for, did they provide a way out for the resistance and Americans, and more). I'm sure this is what gripped most people.

Season two was slow compared to season one, but still enjoyable because there was action and suspense. However, the storyline went off the rails. Primarily, the films took a back seat and the resistance didn't accomplish anything -

Frink settle a personal vendetta by blowing up a building ... and himself ... and his PoA. Way to show them! One film was used effectively, and the only 'good' thing that came from it was worldwide destruction was averted. Although, I was rooting for worldwide destruction.

Yay! The resistance saved the Nazi's and Japanese from obliterating each other. USA!! USA!!

I had hoped that the films would be leveraged by the resistance to defeat the bad guys.

I have no idea where this show is going, but there will be a season 3. The silver lining is I am not going to lose any sleep waiting for its release.

Thoughts?

I thought it was entertaining

But the more I thought about it more things don't make sense.

Why couldn't Frank and co set the bomb's timer for let's say 2 more minutes so they didn't have to get out immediately?

Why is a food stand operating next to the Japanese nuclear facility in the first place?

Himmler didn't even vet what Obergruppenfuhrer Smith said to him or tell anyone else about it before announcing that the Nazi leader was a traitor.

This guy Reichminister Heusmann came out of frickin nowhere. Could have spent more time developing the character before he turns into a war mongering traitor.

What does being Lebensborn actually have to do with anything?
A few guesses

Himmler didn't vet anything because a)He trusts in Smith's loyalty b)it was very convenient for him. It allowed him to depose Heusmann and seize power himself. Why spoil that?

Being Lebensborn meant that (according to Nazi ideology, anyway) Joe's racial bloodlines were the cream of the crop. Only SS officers, who were required to prove 100% Aryan ancestry going back to 1750, and young women specially selected for their desirable racial characteristics were involved. His identity as Aryan elite was unquestioned. It marked Joe as having a special status.

As far as season 3 goes.....since they established that others besides Trade Minister Tagomi can travel through dimensions, there will be more of it. I have a hunch that something like this is why they gave us a brief glimpse of Smith as an American officer during the war - at some point, someone's going to jump dimensions to change the outcome of the war.
I must be in the minority. I checked out ...

... a TMITHC forum and virtually everyone was stroking season 2 saying it was better than season 1. I didn't see it that way. Not by a long shot.
I liked both seasons.

Season 2 did start out a little slower, but I thought the last two episodes were the best two in the whole series.

I think this will definitely happen. The little work available on PKD's sequel to the book involved an alternate reality where the nazis lost the war, so that would be another nod to the original author.
