I can confirm the @FieldYates report that the Seahawks have signed PK Blair Walsh. Steven Hauschka, Seattle's kicker since 2011, a UFA.
"But in 2016, as head coach Pete Carroll has stated, Hauschka “had gotten into a little stink with kicking the extra points," with six extra point attempts either being missed or blocked. Hauschka finished the season on a positive note, connecting on four field goals and four-of-five extra points through Seattle’s two postseason games."
I can't pretend I've followed kickers that closely around the league but isn't this a pretty big downgrade for Seattle? Walsh has been a disaster.
Walsh sucks, but Hauschka was pretty bad this year. IIRC, he blew at least one chance for them to win the Az game (missed a short FG) early in the year (ended in a tie). He's also missed 10 XPs over the last 2 regular seasons plus another in the postseason.
didn't Brown have an off year before joining the Giants? Â
there's a reason why he is being replaced by Blair Walsh. One thing I've noticed about Hauschka is his kicks are always really low. You should NEVER get an XP blocked, even with it being further back. This was an issue Tynes had later in his career as well. Josh Brown was actually great at getting the ball up quickly...unfortunately he was just an awful human being.
+ Walsh had the benefit this year, until cut, of kicking indoors at home (if I have the right kicker in mind)
