NFT: Was Oakley banned from MSG before or not?

LCtheINTMachine : 2/10/2017 9:22 am
Some people are saying that the reason he got kicked out was that he is just banned from the Garden. That's the only justification for the Knicks to look the way they did.

But they have not said that in their 'statements.' Does anyone know if prior to that game he was banned or no? Also surprised John McEnroe hasn't given his version.

Painful to believe that my last image of Oak at MSG is him dragged out of the arena. Is this how we remember our Legends? #NoBan

Pretty sure half the arena was cursing, and half of those were drunk.

Went I sat in the 400 sections, those were very rowdy. I remember one Wall Street guy would come in smelling of booze and cursing at the opposing team even before the anthem.

When I went down to the 300 section it was less rowdy but there was plenty of cursing. Even fathers with their kids and wives there.

The only guy I remember getting escorted out of MSG was a guy who was blackout and pissed on himself. And that time a fight broke out. But they were back for the next game.

I've been to sporting events of every team in the area (except the Devils) and there is drinking, cursing etc. The Subway Series used to be absolutely nuts, full brawls, old man thrown down the stairs during a fight. I'm not saying it's great to see but c'mon lol Who hasn't seen drunk people or cursing at a game?

I didn't think it could get any worse for the Knicks or how I viewed Dolan. But that interview made in much worse. His laughing and contempt for the fans? To not only accuse Oakley of being an alcholic but to also say he was making racist and sexist comments at the game? What the hell could Oakley have done from the minute he walked in the building?

I can't stand Dolan. What a prick.

In fairness, fans on a message board generally are going to be hypercritical "crazy" fans. I suspect most Knicks fans are less critical than those on BBI etc. + I think it's fair to critique ANY player within the context of remembering age, development etc. I think 99% of the criticism for KP on BBI has been more than fair (defensive lapses in particular).
Fans: Hey Dolan, Knicks suck. What are you going to do about it?
Mason : 2/10/2017 5:04 pm : link
Jimmy: Ask Phil. You bastards wanted me out of it. So out of spite I'm going to stay out of it. I know the team sucks.
Fans: I hate you!
Jimmy: Fuck you too. Oh by the way. Phil gave Melo that NTC when he chose to re-signed him. Take that! And your guy Oak is a drunk. I know about drunks and he's one!

The man attacked his own father over control of MSG when his father knew he was screwing up. I'm not surprised by anything Jim Dolan does after that.

The Anucha Brown Sanders case says everything there needs to be said about Dolan. He's a lowlife scumbag. Polar opposite of John Mara.

I'd say the Rangers are better than "halfway decent". And we can't even say he's meddling in the day to day decisions of the Knicks anymore. Being successful in the NBA is almost as much about being lucky as it is being good. Unless you can convince me the Knicks aren't going to win the draft lottery because of Dolan, I don't think a change at the top is going to mean all that much.
Could Oakley sue him for slander?
Kulish29 : 2/10/2017 6:12 pm : link
Dolan's basically telling everyone he's a drunk with zero evidence.
I'm guessing this is why the Knicks are so bad
jcn56 : 2/10/2017 6:12 pm : link
Money can get you the top guys, but an organization like that is made up of hundreds of people and the culture that's drilled into them. If the guy at the top is a jackass with deep pockets that lets his cronies run amok, doesn't instill any sense of responsibility or accountability, then you can assure yourself that in just about every non-visible level of the organization you've got a lower caliber person than you'd find somewhere else. The results sure seem to point towards that.

Every 2-3 years, this board and many others erupt from Knick fans wildly agree at something the franchise did -- hire Scott Layden; let him stick around; allow Isiah to run the franchise into the ground singing FA to bad contacts and throwing around unprotected firsts; not resigning JLin. And now the Oakley mess.

And yet, every game is basically sold out. And I count myself in this mess as I am a season ticket holder.

Nothing will change all until fans stop buying tickets and stop watching MSG Network.

The real kick in the rear for fans is that this time by all accounts he hired a basketball man, paid him well and left him alone. Just our luck Phil seems to be in over his head at this point. Had he done well things would be remarkably different.

PhilSimms15 : 2/10/2017 6:30 pm : link
I agree. But there was a ton of outcry on this very board when Lin was not resigned. And anyway, it was my point that MSG (Dolan) actions lead to the kind of upset we have seen on this board and others over the past couple of days, but no actions are ever taken by paying customers, and MSG viewers.

And I put myself in that category. So I'm to blame too.

I agree but the question was about his having a case for slander. Did Dolan use the word alcoholic? My point is that I doubt Oakley would have much of a case given the facts. Whether Dolan has been a jerk to Oakley causing the rift between them is irrelevant. Oak shows up to a public place and ends up hitting security and making a scene. He admitting to have had been drinking prior to arriving and Dolan says that he has a problem. IMO far from slanderous response.

I'm not defending Dolan everyone knows he could easily have been the bigger man and taken the high road and not of this happens, but that still doesn't make it slander Although of course that is just my opinion and I don't have an issue if you believe it is. I was just answering someones question.

And he didn't say, or even really imply, he's an alcoholic. He said Oakley has a problem. And regardless of any instigation on Dolan's part, Oakley reacted inappropriately last night, which could plausibly be attributed to having had too much to drink beforehand. And it's not unreasonable to conclude that someone who behaves that way after drinking has a problem. There's no defamation case based any implication of alcohol problems.

was never previously banned. He wasn't given tickets (like other ex-players) and bitched he had to buy his own but he 100% was allowed to attend games. In fact, he previously noted Dolan would ask to be informed whenever Oakley was in the building aka he was allowed to be there.

This isn't accurate. He had to be snuck in when JD was in the house. That's as close to a ban as you can get. That's why JD immediately forced him out and fired his top security guy in the arena. Oak was not expected to be there.

so shoving security guards and resisting when he was asked to leave that is ok?

give me a break, neither guy is right in this situation, they both are wrong..

if it was jerome james, would you have thiz much outrage?

What if he was asked to leave simply because the owner doesn't like any dissenting opinion? Do a little homework on the extent of layoffs at MSG.

Dolan doesn't give a shit if you hate him. And as we learned in his interview today he doesn't give a shit about any of us either. Even if every person on earth called him a clown he would not care. He would only care if he lost money and people stopped showing up. That will never happen which means it's hard to ever see anything change as long as he is the owner.

He probably said a few things to Dolan (who is notoriously thin skinned) and Dolan quickly got security over there. I have no idea why there's a rift between him and the org. Both the Knicks and Rangers generally seem to do a good job when it comes to honoring alumni. But you're dealing with a petulant moron in Dolan and someone in Oak who isn't exactly the most congenial guy in the world.

Agreed. Pretty much nailed it in my view.

Thank you both for your input. I agree on both points.

Having said that, I think we all can agree James Dolan just kicked Daniel Snyder in the nuts, took his lunch, gave him a swirly, and stole his title as the most thin skinned, meddling, egotistical, know nothing owner ever.

The most depressing part? There's nothing fans can do. It's just an added layer to the giant shit sandwich Knick faithful continue to chew on.

James Dolan is a fucking disgrace.

jcn56 : 2/11/2017 9:34 am : link
Stop buying merchandise. Stop watching? Well, unless you're somehow paying ala carte for MSG, you're probably not going to do that and make a difference to his bottom line.

But if people in any appreciable quantity stopped going to games, he'd have to change. The problem is no matter how festering a shitshow he puts out there, people keep going.

Ticket holders and socialites will always fill the stands. Many with pre and post game rituals they've grown accustomed too for decades.

And now with having KP and the emergence of Hernangomez people will come to watch them grow, hopefully, into budding stars.
