Some people are saying that the reason he got kicked out was that he is just banned from the Garden. That's the only justification for the Knicks to look the way they did.
But they have not said that in their 'statements.' Does anyone know if prior to that game he was banned or no? Also surprised John McEnroe hasn't given his version.
Bystander accounts seem to back him up here - why do you think that's not the case?
According to the bystanders, he was just sitting there watching the game when a couple of security guards obstructed his view, which seemed deliberate. When he asked them to move and they ignored him, he got agitated.
If I paid good money to watch a Knicks game and had to deal with that in addition to the shitty product on the court, I'd be pretty pissed too.
no one is right here, oakley should of never put his hands on the security guards, if he is asked to leave he ahould of left end of story..
now is it right what dolan did? absokutely not but that doesnt give oakley the right to start ouahing people..
if you know your not welcome somewhere why would you even push it?
False. Already on record that Dolan would have his personal security alert him when Oakley was attending games/would follow him around. Not a single eyewitness account contradicts Oakley's account.

so shoving security guards and resisting when he was asked to leave that is ok?
give me a break, neither guy is right in this situation, they both are wrong..

No, he shouldn't have resisted when security told him to leave. But by all accounts, security was the first to instigate physical contact.
Now - if security comes to me in the stands, after I've paid for my tickets and I'm in my rightful seats, and I haven't done anything to warrant being ejected, and tells me to leave, are you telling me I should be OK with them physically removing me from the stadium without me being given the opportunity to ask why?

Dolan didn't like it and told his security to escort him out. Oakley pays full price for his tickets unlike most ex Knicks and obviously didn't want to leave. Oak never goes down without a fight and now he's arrested

Charles Oakley was said to be yelling at James Dolan and was warned to stop, according to a source. He continued and was then asked to leave

This is what happened. I'm here sitting 12 rows away
Did you catch what he was saying?
Too difficult to hear it all cause fans would t shut up

I did hear "I paid full price for this shit" he did call Dolan a "clown" a few times
That's all I could hear. Once he went to the tunnel I couldn't see or hear anything but I did see phil go down there

? Yet to see anything backing up what you are saying. Please point to the specific post. Dolan has a bee up his ass regarding Oakley (treats ex-Knicks like trash in general unless it's Houston/Starks/LJ aka his employees), security guards bother Oakley, he reacts with anger. The security guards have been "all over' him for years now. The NYT has an article from November where Oakley talks about Dolan's personal security being on alert when he's in the building. Unless Oakley is nostradamus why would he make this known in November unless he's clearly been bothered by Dolan for a while now? Dolan harassed Oakley (who admittedly has called him a "bad guy" and even threatened to "put something in his food" if he cooked for him one day) but Oakley's response was not unprovoked at all.
http://corner.bigblueinteractive.com/index.php?mode=2&thread=527111 - ( New Window )
However, that doesn't mean Oakley is innocent here. If Dolan had an issue with Oakley and he knew he was in the building then why even let him in?
My point is that it is just a fucked up situation and neither looks good.
A source close to Oakley says that former teammate and Knicks executive Allan Houston often wont take Oakleys phone calls.
A former Knick said, Houston, John Starks and Larry Johnson sold Charles out to Jimmy Dolan because they want to make sure their jobs with the Knicks are secure.

Well how exactly is he going to ban Oakley from the arena if he buys a ticket. I'm guessing now he'd have some grounds but previously how could he possibly stop Oakley from buying a ticket and attending the game? "I don't like him"?

Does this prove that Oakley want yelling at Dolan?
I saw it. Thanks.
I think people are letting their hatred for Dolan overshadow what really happened here. Oakley is having a cult following now because Dolan is a douche. I like Oakley but they both look really bad here.

Does this prove that Oakley want yelling at Dolan?
It (and previous proof) proves that Dolan has gone out of his way to poke the bear and post-event the Knicks released 2 inflammatory press releases that were beyond unprofessional. In fact, the first implied (or put out the implication) that Oakley has a drinking/drug or mental problems. Classy.
And there are measures that Dolan could take to ensure that Oakley doesn't attend Knick games at home. He could easily bar entry at the gate, it's not like Oakley isn't recognizable. It's almost as if they set the fucking guy up for failure, knowing that if they got in his face he'd react.
James L. Dolan, the Knicks owner, with whom Oakley has a contentious relationship, sat nearby, but several spectators said they did not see Oakley exchange any words with Dolan or try to provoke him......
A guard soon came over to Oakley and asked him to leave. Oakley asked why.
He just couldnt understand why, said Matthew Barbara, who sat a few rows up from Oakley. We didnt see him throw a punch or do anything. He wasnt nasty to any of the people behind him. Were trying to figure out what happened........
The Knicks, in a statement, said Oakley had behaved in a highly inappropriate and completely abusive manner.
But fans sitting nearby said they did not feel that was the case.
Nothing he did rose to the level of what happened, Jamie Vitiello said. They overacted.
And then this from, ahem, Bleacher Report:
One person thought Oakley might have initially been irked when, upon entering his section, a security guard asked to see his ticket. Matthew Barbara, another fan sitting in the area, said Oakley cursed at the section's guard.
"But I didn't hear him say anything to Dolan," he said.
That guard, according to Vitiello, left his post soon after. Another one approached Oakley and told him to stop cursing at the security guards, and that, according to the witnesses, is when things erupted.
"[MSG security] handled it poorly," Jill Guadagno, who was seated two rows behind Oakley and next to Barbara, said. "They never said to him 'calm down.' The only interaction was them saying, 'You need to leave.'"
No, he shouldn't have resisted when security told him to leave. But by all accounts, security was the first to instigate physical contact.

and like said nobody is right in this situation..
That is, by far, the worst thing anyone has done in this whole thing. Obviously Dolan instigated things, and clearly Oakley reacted terribly and turned it into such an ugly situation. But for the Knicks to go after him in public statements like that is pretty disgusting.
jcn, obviously if Oakley did nothing wrong up to the point that the security guards approached him then I totally agree with you. We all know Dolan is a cunt. The fact that he fired an employee because she did her job was beyond comprehension and shows his imposed self importance. So, like I said, I still like Oakley. I am just jot sure he is 100% innocent. This doesn't mean that what Dolan did was okay. This doesn't mean I split the blame 50/50 between then. I am just cautious on this whole cult situation revolving around Oakley right now. If he was 100% innocent then I will get a Free Oakley shirt. Lol
Ok if you know you are not welcome somehwere you still going to go to that place? say it is your favorite restaraunt and they ban you or you know you are not welcome, you still going to go?
and again i am not saying it is right he is banned..

Not welcome by whom?
Not welcome by the owner? He's not sitting with him.
Not welcome by the organization?
Not welcome by the fans or the crowd? That's not the case.
Banned would be one thing. If you do something stupid like shoplift in a store, you could be banned. Can't go back or risk threat of arrest. If they had banned him entirely, then Oakley had no business going there.
If he wasn't banned, why is he at fault for buying a ticket to watch a game? Because the owner doesn't like him? Do you realize how stupid that sounds? Would you never attend another Giants game if John Mara didn't like you?
Doesn't sound like he got the typical warning. They have a whole routine at MSG before they toss you. There is a pre-printed card that they hand you, telling you youll get tossed if your conduct continues. I dont know the language, but Ive seen it happen several times over the years (including at the Lakers game Monday). Doesnt seem like that happened here.
i think this is the worst part in all of this, none of his former teammates have his back, they all got cushy jobs with the knicks, sot courtside and none try to get oakley back in

my point is really simple..
are you mad because it is oakle or you mad because of what dolan did?
i have already said dolan is very wrong in this as well but oakley knew it was going to happen..
when security came he could of just got up and said ok can we talk in the tunnel so there is no scene, instead he stodd up and started screamong and started shoving guys..
neither party is roght in this, dolan is wrong for being a petty bitch and oakley is wrong for escalating it with physical force...
I think that's been a rumor for a while now. I guess because Oakley was friends with Jordan he wasn't "scared" of him. X had crazy eyes but didn't strike me as "scary" but I guess he was lol
Also, I agree with those saying both parties were in the wrong, and I also can't believe that Oakley was quietly watching the game and then was tossed by security.
I've met Oak a couple of times -- even in quiet moments he is a pretty belligerent personality.
Finally, even if Oakley was just sitting quietly reading a book -- one cannot push, shove, or take aggressive physical action to security at an event (and with police present) and be totally in the right. Just like if someone calls you a name, you can't punch him. Its at least a misdemeanor.

Dont know Kay's schtick, but I hope there are zero questions about Oakley. Use them all to ask about the direction of the franchise, whether Dolan will authorize a rebuild, whether Phil is leaving, whether he has talked to Phil about douchebaggery etc. Not expecting it.
Interesting the Dolan is really feeling the heat on this. What, is he coming on to defend his sterling reputation and standing among Knicks fans?

what he should do before any questions say, i am calling oakley to come in and have a sit down with me and see if we can repair the damage and hope to see if we can get the knicks and oakley back together...
as for the direction of the franchise he is just going to say it is up to phil, he leaves basketball decisions up to phil...

Good. These assholes act like Dolan's lackey dogs and then when shit hits the fan, he scapegoats them.
Why not be a man? When you see Oakley is doing nothing that warrants ejection, stand up and tell the boss you are just following policy. If he cans you, then you have your self-respect, the respect of others and a good lawsuit. By being a sniveling lackey, you get what you deserve.

You have a pair of titles in the 70's and the 90's teams to fall back on. Granted the latter did not produce a title, but they came damn close and provided an entire generation of Knicks fans with positive memories.
If Ewing was the best player of that era, Oakley was the toughest and may very well be the most beloved. I hope this blows up in Dolan's face and I hope Knicks fans are loud in support of Oakley tonight.
What a total joke this franchise has become.
By having an immature a-hole as the head of the organization, that's how.

Painful to believe that my last image of Oak at MSG is him dragged out of the arena. Is this how we remember our Legends? #NoBan
Went I sat in the 400 sections, those were very rowdy. I remember one Wall Street guy would come in smelling of booze and cursing at the opposing team even before the anthem.
When I went down to the 300 section it was less rowdy but there was plenty of cursing. Even fathers with their kids and wives there.
The only guy I remember getting escorted out of MSG was a guy who was blackout and pissed on himself. And that time a fight broke out. But they were back for the next game.
now it is loud for the wrong reasons..
it is just going to get worse to because no one is going to have patience for the draft picks coming in to pan out

I can't stand Dolan. What a prick.
In fairness, fans on a message board generally are going to be hypercritical "crazy" fans. I suspect most Knicks fans are less critical than those on BBI etc. + I think it's fair to critique ANY player within the context of remembering age, development etc. I think 99% of the criticism for KP on BBI has been more than fair (defensive lapses in particular).
Fans: I hate you!
Jimmy: Fuck you too. Oh by the way. Phil gave Melo that NTC when he chose to re-signed him. Take that! And your guy Oak is a drunk. I know about drunks and he's one!

Word. Time for Knicks fans to do what our predecessors (Giants fans in the 60s and 70s) did.
Dolan must be referring to the MSG security report where reportedly Oakley said "All of you suck Dolan's d**k."
Was it though? Pretty sure that although this is a new low, he's a known entity by now.
I'd say the Rangers are better than "halfway decent". And we can't even say he's meddling in the day to day decisions of the Knicks anymore. Being successful in the NBA is almost as much about being lucky as it is being good. Unless you can convince me the Knicks aren't going to win the draft lottery because of Dolan, I don't think a change at the top is going to mean all that much.
Since Oakley has admitted to having been drinking prior to arriving at the Garden I doubt he would have much of a case.
And yet, every game is basically sold out. And I count myself in this mess as I am a season ticket holder.

The real kick in the rear for fans is that this time by all accounts he hired a basketball man, paid him well and left him alone. Just our luck Phil seems to be in over his head at this point. Had he done well things would be remarkably different.

I agree but the question was about his having a case for slander. Did Dolan use the word alcoholic? My point is that I doubt Oakley would have much of a case given the facts. Whether Dolan has been a jerk to Oakley causing the rift between them is irrelevant. Oak shows up to a public place and ends up hitting security and making a scene. He admitting to have had been drinking prior to arriving and Dolan says that he has a problem. IMO far from slanderous response.
I'm not defending Dolan everyone knows he could easily have been the bigger man and taken the high road and not of this happens, but that still doesn't make it slander Although of course that is just my opinion and I don't have an issue if you believe it is. I was just answering someones question.
The place is sold out so JD won't be singing the blues - unless it's in his boy band.
And he didn't say, or even really imply, he's an alcoholic. He said Oakley has a problem. And regardless of any instigation on Dolan's part, Oakley reacted inappropriately last night, which could plausibly be attributed to having had too much to drink beforehand. And it's not unreasonable to conclude that someone who behaves that way after drinking has a problem. There's no defamation case based any implication of alcohol problems.
This isn't accurate. He had to be snuck in when JD was in the house. That's as close to a ban as you can get. That's why JD immediately forced him out and fired his top security guy in the arena. Oak was not expected to be there.
Dolan has been a nationwide punchline (in the sports world) going back years.

is that the bucktoothed jackass that owns the team was trying to instigate a confrontation, and Oakley gave it to him.
He would have been better off videotaping the idiots who were harrassing him and posting it to social media.
so shoving security guards and resisting when he was asked to leave that is ok?
give me a break, neither guy is right in this situation, they both are wrong..
if it was jerome james, would you have thiz much outrage?
What if he was asked to leave simply because the owner doesn't like any dissenting opinion? Do a little homework on the extent of layoffs at MSG.
Wally is also too much of a homer. It's been a slow evolution, but it's out of control right now. He sometimes loses it to keep some credibility, but the overall effect is that he's way too positive.
Yeah. That was pathetic. Talk about being in someone's back pocket.
Agreed. Pretty much nailed it in my view.
Is there any way this incident can galvanize the fan base to the point where pitchforks and torches come into play? Can't we just treat Dolan like an even shittier Frankenstein here? He's fucking and ducking Oakley here !! It's all just unfuckingbelievable.

Dolan's basically telling everyone he's a drunk with zero evidence.
Since Oakley has admitted to having been drinking prior to arriving at the Garden I doubt he would have much of a case.
Having a few drinks and being an alcoholic are 2 totally different things.

Thank you both for your input. I agree on both points.
Having said that, I think we all can agree James Dolan just kicked Daniel Snyder in the nuts, took his lunch, gave him a swirly, and stole his title as the most thin skinned, meddling, egotistical, know nothing owner ever.
The most depressing part? There's nothing fans can do. It's just an added layer to the giant shit sandwich Knick faithful continue to chew on.
James Dolan is a fucking disgrace.
But if people in any appreciable quantity stopped going to games, he'd have to change. The problem is no matter how festering a shitshow he puts out there, people keep going.
And now with having KP and the emergence of Hernangomez people will come to watch them grow, hopefully, into budding stars.
